When you try to perform an in-place upgrade repair of your Windows 11 or Windows 10 installation or upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10/8.1/8/7 using the ISO, you may encounter the upgrade error code 0x800F0955 0x20003. This post is intended to help affected PC users with the most suitable solutions you can apply to fix this error.

    When you encounter this issue, youll receive the following full error message;

When upgrading Windows using the ISO, normally Windows will try and connect to the internet and check for updates and install available bits its at this stage or phase of the upgrade process that the operation may go south as indicated on the error description. I have had this experience first hand; so we recommend as soon as you have the Windows ISO downloaded, disconnect the PC from the internet, then mount the ISO (if youre attempting the upgrade from Windows 7, youll need a third-party virtual drive software to mount the ISO image) and run the setup.exe file from the root folder to begin the in-place upgrade. Once the upgrade process completes successfully and you get to the desktop after completing the OOBE (Out-Of-Box Experience), you can now reconnect the PC back to the internet and check for updates to install the latest required updates.

Since the error in view is occurring trying to upgrade to the latest version of Windows using the ISO, the solution simply requires you to Upgrade via Windows Update or use Update Assistant or Media Creation Tool. For major updates like the Windows 11 Feature Update, you can manually update to the version using the two mentioned tools.

If upgrading isnt working for you, you can simply create Windows 11 bootable installation mediaon a Windows computer or on a Linux or Mac computer, back up your files and then proceed to use the media to clean install Windows 11 on the device you were trying to upgrade.

Window and insulation rebates doubled in Clark County – The Reflector - January 12, 2022 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Sebastian Rubino / sebastian@thereflector.com

Clark Public Utilities has doubled its rebate amounts for a limited time for those who are looking to upgrade their windows or insulation.

New windows or insulation not only provide improvements to the home itself, but it can also save homeowners money later on, stated Clark PUD media specialist Dameon Pesanti.

You can probably save up to 20% if people choose to take this limited-time opportunity, Pesanti said.

To qualify, people must live in an electrically heated home.

Its a big advantage for people who live in older homes because starting in 1990, Washington state began ratcheting up its energy efficiency standards for home construction, and its only gotten higher and higher every year after, he said.

In order to qualify for a rebate, the contractor who does the installation must be part of the PUDs contractor network. The reason, Pesanti said, is because the contractors in the network have agreed to follow the PUDs customer service standards and quality of work. Those contractors are also trained to fill out the paperwork needed to file rebates.

All the customer has to do is sign a piece of paper, Pesanti said.

The contractors must also meet the countys licensing and bonding requirements.

According to Pesanti, a homeowners biggest energy expense is heating and cooling. Insulation, he said, is the most effective and cheapest way to save money on home energy bills.

It takes effect immediately, makes you warm and comfortable all year round, and theres no maintenance because once the insulation is in, the projects done, he said.

Having a contractor install insulation can also save money because they can acquire the material in bulk, which is cheaper than a homeowner purchasing the product at a retail rate, Pesanti said.

Since newer homes built after the energy efficient standard change in 1990 have better insulation, Pesanti said homes built before 1990 would benefit more from the installation and rebates.

Most of the time, the rebate is included as a line item in the invoice so its an instant rebate for the customer and then we pay the rebate out to the contractor after the fact, Pesanti said. Thats not required though, so sometimes the customer pays the pre-rebated price to the contractor and then the rebate gets paid to the customer directly by us after the fact.

Pesanti said those who are looking to get new windows or insulation should get at least three bids before proceeding with a replacement.

According to the PUDs website, new homes are required to have R-49 insulation in the ceiling and R-30 insulation in the floor.

The website also lists other qualifications people may need to be eligible for the rebates.

How much more insulation you need depends on the cost of the fuel you use to heat your home, the website states. From a purely financial standpoint, the less you pay for heating fuel, the less it makes sense for you to invest in more insulation.

The website states that homes built in the 1960s and 1970s included little insulation because the cost of fuel didnt justify an investment in insulation, but as heating costs increase, it makes more financial sense to increase insulation.

With the incentives, customers can get $1.20 per square foot for wall insulation, $6 per square foot for double pane windows, $8 per square foot for triple pane windows, and $100 for attic or crawl space air sealing.

A full list of the rebates is listed online at https://tinyurl.com/2p9x9vah. The list of eligible contractors can be found online at clarkpublicutilities.com/services/weatherization.

Narrative installation ‘Lost in the Woods’ taps into art, writing students’ talents – Fredonia.edu - January 12, 2022 by Mr HomeBuilder

Visitors stroll through the Lost in the Woods art installation created by students in art and writing classes during the fall semester.

A steady flow of students and other visitors toured an interdisciplinary immersive narrative installation, created by SUNY Fredonia students enrolled in writing and art courses, at The Art Market, a Main Street storefront in Fredonia, on an unusually warm December afternoon.

The collaborative effort by students in WRTG 365 Form and Theory of Writing and ARTS 340/440 3D Methods and Materials spawned loosely-tied together narratives that combined writing and sculpture. Students developed the storylines and created sculptures and other visual illustrations.

Various stations that included a small tent were spread throughout the downtown gallery to convey the stories. The Art Market is part of Main Street Studios, a downtown performing and visual arts facility owned and operated by Department of Theatre and Dance Professor Ted Sharon.

Anyone, as they come in, passes through a series of stories, explained Department of English Assistant Professor Michael Sheehan. Along the way they encounter creatures such as a unicorn in the front window and a beautifully crafted paper mch witch related to one of the stories. Its kind of like a narrative that flows through the space, Mr. Sheehan noted, through the use of words and objects.

There were essentially three narratives: about a woman, Lilly, who lives in a mythical woods surrounded by strange creatures; two brothers who get sucked into a video game, which causes their mother great distress; and the character Juniper, who possesses some sort of telekinetic ability to connect with the brothers inside the video game and is able to bridge the two storylines.

Students in their respective classes worked in groups that took ownership of a narrative, and also met together across the two classes to share ideas, Sheehan noted. For example, one student wrote a diary of one of the characters, while another student created companion illustrations.

The collaboration was really fun in that students kind of went back and forth, Department of Visual Arts and New Media Associate Professor Peter Tucker said. Students in Sheehans class came up with prompts and that led Mr. Tuckers students to think about what they could create in response. And it worked the other way, too.

"The Writing students came up with the original prompts, my students developed ideas for sculptural forms loosely based on those prompts, then Mike's students altered their narratives based on what my students were making," Tucker said."It went back and forth, which was super fun!"

Visitors could take a dive deep into the narratives, paying close attention to solve some of the mysteries presented to them reading the stories, scanning the evidence, looking at the sculptures and putting everything together, Sheehan explained, or simply take a casual approach and see whats on display. They could also take a story along with them through a QR code so the story can continue to grow, Sheehan added.

This was the first time and hopefully not the last time, Sheehan and Tucker say that their students will collaborate on a variation of an installation that involves art and the written word.

Groove Music player updated and replaced with new Windows 11 Media Player for some – OnMSFT.com - January 12, 2022 by Mr HomeBuilder

The Microsoft Windows team is starting off 2022 with a roll out of its new Media Player to more Insiders as it transitions the app as the official replacement for Groove Music.

A few months ago, Windows Insiders started getting a taste of a new replacement app for the now defunct Groove Music player with an updated Windows Media Player that took aesthetic inspiration from Windows 11's new design language.

While the app hasn't officially become the replacement app for Groove Music for every Windows 11 user, it is going through the transition for even more Insiders at the start of the year.

A recent update to Groove Music in the Microsoft Store now links to the new Media Player app. Prior to this week's update the two apps, Windows 11 Media Player and Groove sat parallel to one another and duplicated functionality.

Now it appears the Windows team is consolidating the codebase and directing all future updates to Groove to be represented as the new Media Player app, and this is good thing.

While those of who still hold nostalgia for the last remaining remnants of the Zune interface that Groove held, the new Media Player is proving to be more functional replacement.

Media Player retains the borderless window design as Groove but also incorporates clearer navigation icons for play, pause and skipping tracks. Another added benefit of the new design is better visual cohesion with the OS.

The Media Player app does retain trace elements of the color scheme of the old Groove Music player, its rounded corners, slate grey background and iconography match much closer to the new design language of Windows 11.

As far as functionality is concerned, there are a few things the new Media Player app needs to incorporate to make par with Groove or even the old Windows Media Player such as extended codec support or network support to pull media from OneDrive.

On the flipside, the Media Player does direct users to the Microsoft Store to get additionally (approved) codecs, and the player does bring a nice new equalizer setting to manually adjust the sound for music as well as pretty extensive casting menu to share content to other devices.

For local files that are recognized by the player, there are also settings to pull metadata from the cloud to fill in items such as album cover art, publishing dates and studio information.

All in all, the new Media Player is shaping up to be a great replacement for Groove, the old Windows Media Player and hopefully the Movies & TV app at some point.

City, Hope Home Repair to part ways The Kansan – Newton Kansan - January 12, 2022 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Chad Frey Newton Kansan

For decades Hope Home Repair assisted low income home owners with repairs to their homes.

Since 2011 Hope Home Repair has worked in conjunction with the City of Newton, utilizing Community Development Block Grant funding to assist with home repairs issuing low or no interest loans to some homeowners to assist with repairs like new windows, heating and air systems, water heaters and roofs for homeowners with an income of $14,000 a year.

Those days are, apparently, over. Jan. 11 the city commission will likely terminate the agreement at the request of Hope Home Repair.

The organizations board of directors notified city staff via letter at the end of December that the organization is unable to accept new applications and requesting the closure of a memorandum of understanding between the city and Hope Home Repair.

For many years, HOPEs founder, a licensed general contractor, was able to do much of the work himself. Health challenges have gradually changed that, the board wrote in a letter to the city commission and city staff.

Calling the phone number listed for Hope Home Repair listed on the organizations letterhead and online results in a phone number not valid message.

During the agreement city staff assisted with approving applications for funding. Projects have included replacing siding, guttering, broken windows, the roof, electrical or plumbing upgrades, and repainting house exteriors.

[We] would like to take this opportunity to express our most sincere gratitude to the staff and board members of HHR for their dedicated service to those most in need in the Newton community, wrote Kelly McElroy, city manager, in a memo to the city commission. Their work has improved countless lives and properties in our community and we are grateful for their service.

At the income level served, home repairs can be difficult if not impossible to pay for. The CDBG backed loans were/ are repaid to the revolving account with the city as properties change hands.

Yet, statistics demonstrate that cost for a retirement community are far higher than remaining in ones own home, and furthermore, its more satisfying and mentally healthy, wrote the board of Hope Home Repair in its letter to city staff.

City staff and the Commission have advised and recommended that any remaining CDBG funds obligated to the Hope Home Repair program can be moved to new city weatherization program, that has a similar mission and vision. City staff estimated there are about $49,000 available in CBDG funds that could be rolled into the new program.

Five players Sheffield Wednesday could sign in January transfer window to replace Theo Corbeanu – Yorkshire Live - January 12, 2022 by Mr HomeBuilder

It is conceivable Sheffield Wednesday will add to their attacking options before the end of the January transfer window.

Losing Theo Corbeanu to League One rivals Milton Keynes Dons was not part of the plan. Wolverhampton Wanderers cut short his loan spell, ending his hit-and-miss time at Hillsborough.

One of the issues appeared to be Darren Moore's utilisation of the Canadian as a wing-back instead of a winger. However, regardless of whether Corbeanu's patchy form or the manager's choices are the primary issue, the club have lost an attacking option, whilst one of their rivals have been strengthened.

So it is highly likely the Owls will be in the market for another attacker. Rayhaan Tulloch of West Bromwich Albion has been linked, as has Josh Sims, who is currently a free agent.

Yorkshire Live has assessed some options the club could look at, primarily looking to utilise the loan market and seeking players who have yet to make the breakthrough at Premier League clubs.

    Video Unavailable

    Click to playTap to play

    Play now

This would be an ambitious one.

Clarke has Championship experience, having spent half the season on loan at Stoke City in 2020/21 and with his form in the division for Leeds United saw Tottenham Hotspur spend 10 million to secure his signature.

However, Clarke has stagnated since moving to London and found himself primarily limited to Premier League Two football. With that in mind, a move to League One and particularly back to Yorkshire could be tempting as he could play regular football and be close to home comforts.

His direct wing play would be hugely beneficial to Moore's side as he is the third highest contributor of assists in Premier League Two this season.

Another option from Spurs, Markanday is 20-years-old and has yet to have his senior debut so would likely be seeking a move in January to get his senior career started.

His 12 goals and five assists from the right wing prove that he has outgrown U23s football and it's time for him to get a chance in league football.

One thing which might count against him is his physicality though, as he is 5 feet 8 inches with a slight build. If he played tentatively against League One defenders he could be bullied.

A 19-year-old of Zimbabwean descent, Maswanhise is one of the stars of Leicester City's U23s side.

He is a rangy winger, with excellent pace and skill. His long strides and acceleration allow him to burst past players easily. Whilst he has a slim build, he would perhaps suit League One football more than Markanday due to a little more height and better acceleration allowing him to escape defenders.

He is Leicester's top goal scorer in Premier League Two this season with five and should he be loaned out this month, it would be his first step into senior football.

West Ham's 20-year-old from Dublin, the fantastically named Armstrong Oko-Flex is a versatile forward, capable of playing on both wings or as an auxiliary striker.

He initially came through Arsenal's academy after being scouted in Dublin, before moving to Celtic and moving back to London with West Ham in the summer.

He is a powerful forward who primarily prefers playing on the left to cut in and shoot on his right foot. This has seen him become the second top goal scorer in Premier League Two this season, behind only Arsenal's Folarin Balogun. Like the two previous options, he is seeking his first opportunity in senior football.

The Leeds United forward has some senior experience as he made a handful of appearances for Birmingham City in the Championship at the end of last season.

The 19-year-old was subsequently bought by the Whites but the Premier League club could be tempted to allow him to move on loan and gain more experience at senior level. He is a left footed player but is adept at playing from the right or the left.

His best football for Leeds has come on the left, where he has been most confident taking on fullbacks and attacking the byline.

Cresskill and Franklin Lakes will hold special elections on Jan. 25 asking the public to vote on millions of dollars of improvements to their schools.

In Cresskill, 1,000 middle and high school students haven't returned to their school, many since March 2020, when schools statewide closed at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The remnants of Hurricane Ida wreaked havoc on the building, which sits in a flood zone on Lincoln Drive.Several feet of water rose above the auditorium stage, destroying it andthe gymnasium, the media center, desks and chairs.

Students have returned to in-person learning at least once a week on a rotating basisatSt. Thrse of Lisieux Church school in Cresskill. Two grades attend in person once every four days on a rotating schedule.

Residents will be asked to approve $21.66 million for the repairs on Jan. 25.

The district has met with the Federal Emergency Management Agency several times to process grant reimbursement applications for restoration, transportation and relocation. Any grant approvals will cover 75% of the cost, and the rest will be the responsibility of the district.

All four boilers, univents and water pumps need to be repaired or replaced. The boilers, which will cost $5 million to $6million to repair, carry the biggest price tag.

The univents in all 52 rooms were damaged by saltwater that originated at the DPW salt garage and need to be replaced.

Parents will hold a referendum rally on Saturday to raise awareness. The rally will take place at Merritt Memorial School at 10 a.m.

Army finally picks an optic for Next Generation Squad Weapon – DefenseNews.com - January 12, 2022 by Mr HomeBuilder

The Army hasnt yet decided which of two competitors will build the Army and Marine Corps replacement for the M4, M16 and M249 yet, but on Friday, they announced wholl be making the advanced optic to go on top of the Next Generation Squad Weapon.

Vortex Optics subsidiary Sheltered Wings has been selected to build as many as 250,000 Next Generation Squad Weapon Fire Control systems at a starting price of about $20 million over the next decade. The partnership beat out L3 Harris, the other company selected to provide a prototype for testing and evaluation.

The NGSW-FC system is a ruggedized fire control that increases accuracy and lethality for the Close Combat Force. It integrates a number of advanced technologies, including a variable magnification optic, backup etched reticle, laser rangefinder, ballistic calculator, atmospheric sensor suite, compass, Intra-Soldier Wireless, visible and infrared aiming lasers, and a digital display overlay, according to a release from the Armys Cross Functional Team-Soldier Lethality.

Beginning in earnest in 2018, the Army narrowed its decades-long attempt to replace the more than half century old weapon by selecting the 6.8mm as the intermediate caliber replacement. The round has shown in ballistics testing that it outperforms the existing 5.56mm and 7.62mm rounds for lethality, range and accuracy.

But to take full advantage of that new round and weapon combo, the Army needs a better optic.

And they want more than just nice glass.

The new optic will basically be a computer atop the weapon, calculating range, ballistics, atmospherics, directional information, digital overlay and wireless features to link to devices such as the still-developing Integrated Visual Augmentation System, the Armys new do-it-all goggle expected to begin fielding later this year.

The NGSW-FC will replace the close combat optic, rifle combat optic and machine gun optic. But neither the optic nor the weapon will be pure fleeted anytime soon, meaning all soldiers and Marines will get it.

This gear rollout is slated for the close combat forces special operations, Marine and Army infantry, combat engineers and scouts, primarily.

The Army is scheduled this year to choose between the NGSW prototype offerings from Sig Sauer, a more conventional AR-style design, and the True Velocity/LoneStar Future Weapons, an option which features a bullpup design.

Todd South has written about crime, courts, government and the military for multiple publications since 2004 and was named a 2014 Pulitzer finalist for a co-written project on witness intimidation. Todd is a Marine veteran of the Iraq War.

Window Woman to appear on ‘This Old House’ – The Daily News of Newburyport - December 28, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

AMESBURY Window Woman of New Englands work restoring windows at the former Centre School in Dracut will be featured on an episode of This Old House, airing Thursday.

The 1898 school building, which slowly fell into disrepair over the years, is being developed into affordable housing for veterans by the Coalition for a Better Acre.

Alison Hardy, owner of Window Woman of New England on Elm Street in Amesbury, happened to be watching This Old House recently when she realized she was working on the same project being discussed on the episode.

Hardy, who did a segment for the Emmy-winning home improvement series in 2011, reached out to the producers to let them know she was restoring the windows and would be happy to discuss her part in the project for the show, and they agreed.

The building is really cool. It had just been abandoned for so long and nobody could figure out what to do with it, she said, explaining that the school is in the middle of a residential district, so converting it to housing made the most sense.

The building features 50 windows and they are large, Hardy said, noting that the upper and lower sashes each weigh about 24 pounds, which is a lot as youre trying to lift it over your head.

Hardy enjoys talking about window restoration and educating the public on how different windows were designed to function.

Its always fun when something as obscure as window restoration can get national TV coverage, she said. You just dont think about it. When anybody says windows, the word replacement comes to mind.

For Hardy, its important to get people to see the other option, which is restoration.

As explained on her website, maintaining the original windows of a building is not just about preserving the character and charm of a home; they can also have a lot longer lifespan than many people are willing to believe.

Though some people worry that restoration will cost more than replacement, thats not usually the case, according to Window Woman.

With New Englands rich history, Hardy has worked on windows from multiple centuries. Her cutoff for accepting work is typically windows from the 1960s.

The oldest windows she has worked on, or at least for which she knew the year for certain, were on the Spalding House in Lowell, which was built in 1760.
