The Florida Department of Transportation has announced the following road work in Highlands County this week and asked motorists to exercise caution:

U.S. 27 from Sebring Parkway to College Drive: Crews are reworking the shoulders and cleaning ditches during the day. Watch for northbound lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today through Thursday.

U.S. 27 from Valerie Boulevard to Hal McCrae Boulevard: Crews will be cleaning ditches and reworking shoulders on the northbound travel lane. No lane closures are expected but motorists should use caution and watch for workers close to the road.

S.R. 70 from Greenbrier Lane to C.R. 721: Watch for periodic lane closures with flaggers directing traffic from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today through Thursday. Crews will be cutting brush around guardrails and making erosion repairs.

S.R. 17 Memorial Drive to Ed Carter Street: Crews are replacing poles along the east side of the road. Use caution and watch for workers close to the road.

South Main Avenue from Phoenix Street to Hibiscus Street (Lake Placid): Watch for workers close to the road along the southbound lane as crews work on punch list items and clean up the project. This Safe Routes to Schools project and includes adding sidewalk, curb and gutter along the west side of the roadway. Estimated completion is early 2015. The contractor is Excavation Point Inc.
