Golden, Colo. (PRWEB) October 23, 2014

Data* released today from HomeAdvisors third quarter Home Repair, Maintenance and Improvement Quarterly Trend Report showed an increase in maintenance and repair requests, accounting for 63 percent of the total requests nationally. Home improvement requests have decreased, accounting for 37 percent of the total requests nationally, and the most popular tasks included major room renovations such as kitchen and bathroom remodels. The report provides trends for home repair, maintenance, and improvement projects and is compiled on a national level as well as regionally for Chicago, Dallas, Boston, Denver, and Sacramento.

For the third quarter the most popular tasks requested included repairing electrical switches, replacing faucets and installing asphalt shingle roofing. Of the cities that data was collected from, Boston had the highest percentage (69%) of maintenance and repair requests and Denver received the largest increase of maintenance and repair requests, up 10 percent quarter-over-quarter.

Summer storms and warm temperatures may have contributed to the demand for exterior repairs such as repairing roofing and painting, but large room renovations are still valued, said HomeAdvisor CEO Chris Terrill. According to the data, bathroom remodels were the second most popular project requested, with kitchen remodels also in the top 10. Homeowners are still investing in cosmetic renovations, a fact that demonstrates stability in the home industry.

Home improvement project requests decreased eight percent for the third quarter. Of the cities data was collected from, Dallas had the highest percentage (44%) of home improvement requests. Most requested tasks in Dallas included remodeling a bathroom and installing porcelain and ceramic tile.

For interior design trends, the most popular room to remodel was the kitchen and the most popular color to use in the remodel was grey. Additionally, the most common types of countertop and flooring materials were marble and tile, respectively.

The data was collected from nearly 700,000 service requests received through HomeAdvisor.com from July- September 2014. The data was divided into two categories: additions and remodels or maintenance and repairs. Additional information was provided by HomeAdvisors Cost Guide and DesignMine tools.
