Ice Hazards on Roads; Colder Air Arriving

    - January 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    MOBILE, Alabama -

A Winter Storm Warning continues tonight for the entire News 5 area. Rain, sleet and freezing rain are slowly diminishing but anything other than light snow hitting the ground will freeze on contact. The freezing sleet and freezing rain will be seen all the way to the beaches. It will transition to light snow before ending in the next few hours but dont expect much snow accumulation.

Ice on roadways is making travel hazardous and in some places, impossible. Do not travel. Bridges and overpasses are frozen, and roads with slush on them now will freeze further as temperatures fall. If power lines ice over and get weighed down, or if tree branches ice over and fall on power lines, there is the possibility of power loss. Evening temperatures are in the middle 20s inland and near 30 right at the beaches. North winds will be between 10 mph and 18 mph producing a wind chill in the teens.

The precipitation ends overnight, followed by extremely cold weather. Lows tonight will be in the lower 20s, with wind chills in the single digits. A hard freeze is possible. Your start to Wednesday will include iced roads, walkways, and pavement, and frozen vehicle doors and windshields.

Well only hover near freezing for a high tomorrow. Skies should brighten as we go through the afternoon. Tomorrow night may deliver another hard freeze with temperatures near or below 20. As you are out tomorrow taking pictures, share them with us on the WKRG Facebook page. TIP: it's always better to post the picture, rather than to message it. It makes it quicker and easier for us to see, use, and share them. ...and of course, take the photos in landscape (horizontal), rather than portrait (vertical) so that it fits better on TV!

Unless you get solid sunshine tomorrow, some areas may not see iced surfaces and vehicles thaw until Thursday. With two nights in a row of extremely cold weather, make sure to take all of the safety steps to protect people, pets, pipes and plants.

By Friday we reach 60. The weekend places us back in the upper 60s with some showers each day, but that will be just plain rain.

Free tools for keep up with precipitation- Watch WKRG digital channel 5.2 or use our web interactive radar http://www.wkrg.com/category/260193/weather-interactive-radar to see the radar. Remember that the colors on the radar for sleet or freezing rain (pink), and snow (white), are estimated by math equations. Since the radar shows what's above the ground, you can't be certain what the precipitation is by the time it reaches the ground. That is controlled by the temperature in the layers of air in and beneath the clouds.

Be a citizen scientist and report what reaches the ground where you are using a free weather app called mPING http://www.nssl.noaa.gov/projects/ping/ This helps meteorologists and computer modellers better-understand and forecast ice, sleet and snow. The mPING display shows you what others have reported http://www.nssl.noaa.gov/projects/ping/display/ Note that the greatest number of reports come from larger population areas so represent your small town! It's critical for everyone to know where there may be freezing rain.

A.E.R.T. Will Feature the New MoistureShield Pro Decking Product Line at IBS

    - January 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Springdale, Ark. (PRWEB) January 28, 2014

Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, Inc., (A.E.R.T.), the worlds leader in innovative composite decking, is introducing new MoistureShield Pro capstock decking. The new line will be made with the superior manufacturing processes that A.E.R.T. is known for, with an extra layer of protection in a unique cap to increase fade, stain, scratch and slip resistance. The beautiful and durable MoistureShield Pro decking will be featured on MoistureShields booth at the International Builders Show (IBS) in Las Vegas, Nev., February 4 6, 2014 (booth C4543).

MoistureShields Vantage collection has received a tremendous reception across the U.S. and Canada, and this new line will make it possible for our strong brand to reach even further into markets where capstock is becoming the preference, said Brent Gwatney, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for MoistureShield. We at AERT want to be able to fulfill all homeowners decking preferences, whether it be with a natural wood-like composite or the benefits of a lower-maintenance cap.

As with other MoistureShield composite decking products, MoistureShield Pro is made with an exclusive manufacturing process that encapsulates wood fibers in polyethylene plastic, which ensures moisture protection to the core of each board. This allows all MoistureShield boards to be installed on the ground, in the ground or underwater and still be protected by the industry leading lifetime warranty.

The new Pro line adds an extra layer of protection and beauty with its durable cap. The result is deck boards with enhanced fade, stain, slip and scratch resistance that also look beautiful. MoistureShield Pro is also protected by a lifetime warranty and a 25-year fade and stain warranty.

The new product line will be available in 3 variegated colors: Ipe (a red-brown similar to its namesake), Brazilian Chestnut (a rich earthy brown), and Graystone (an opulent gray with cool undertones). Each color board will be available in 12, 16 and 20 lengths, and with coordinating trim boards.

Location is the biggest factor for home buyers, but many other things come into consideration.

For the average home, an updated kitchen, spiffy bathroom renovation or new appliances can seal the deal for the owner and agent.

Upgraded amenities can add lustre to homes in York Region where, according to latest MLS indexes, single detached prices average $322,400 in Georgina to $774,000 in Richmond Hill.

    The operative word is average.

When it comes to money-is-no-object, super affluent buyers browsing the rarefied realms of luxury real estate, uber-opulent amenities can be as eye popping as house prices.

In King, where upscale houses have recently sold for as much as $40 million, the included extras often cost as much as the average homeowner can afford as a home, Century 21 Heritage Group Ltd. broker Michele Denniston said.

In the country its all about land, acreage, the King real estate specialist said. Often there are barns, pool houses, outdoor kitchens and out buildings. Some are like second houses.

Sales of posh King properties are brisk, she said.

According to a December RE/MAX report, luxury home sales in the GTA, Canadas largest real estate market, continued to climb in 2013, rising 18 per cent to 1,908 units, setting a new record for activity priced in excess of $1.5 million.

    Tree removal plan on hold

    - January 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Trees targeted for removal along Highway 12 in the Springs this week have earned a temporary reprieve. After several complaints into her office, Supervisor Susan Gorin asked the County not to proceed with the tree removal until she inspects the affected area on Friday.

Removing mature trees is part of long-planned improvements in the Highway 12 corridor from Boyes Boulevard to Agua Caliente. The overall project includes new sidewalks, a bike lane, lighting and other safety enhancements.

CalTrans requires the removal of trees that are in the construction zone, according to County spokesperson Peter Rumble. The trees are in the states right of way, he said. There is not a lot of flexibility on our part.

While road construction is not scheduled to begin until the summer, officials say the tree removal must occur in the coming weeks in order to avoid bird-nesting season. If birds begin to nest, the project will be delayed for several months.

Though a county press release last week stated that tree removal would likely begin in the first week of February, the project was moved up to begin Monday, January 27. When construction area signs went up along the project corridor, calls of complaint came into Gorins office.

In response. Gorin contacted Thomas OKane, the project manager for Sonoma CountyTransportation & Public Works, and requested a temporary halt until she could view the area. That walk-through is schedule for Friday, Janaury 30.

Several officials involved in the planning say any changes in the tree removal plan are unlikely, given the CalTrans mandate.

Widening the street in an area where structures are so close, along with ADA requirements, do not allow for room to save the trees, OKane said.

The project calls for the planting of 20 new trees in the project area, and another 50 for planting in Maxwell Park to replace those removed.

While officials say the tree removal has long been part of the well-known construction plan, some residents were caught off guard by the construction signs.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini hopes Premier League tile hurt will work in club’s favour

    - January 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

They needed to demonstrate again what kind of players they are.

It is very important in that sense to win things and the only way to win is with a high performance from all of them, but with style to do it.

Maybe, of course, I think they want revenge. This team is growing and I am sure we are in the correct way to try to do it.

Having finished second in La Liga to Barcelona with Real Madrid four years ago with a record runners-up points haul of 96 points Pellegrini has yet to win a league title as a coach in Europe. But the Chilean believes that City are capable of ending his barren run this season.

It is an important possibility because I have a team that can win a title, Pellegrini said. The other 10 years I was in Europe, maybe the only team I could win with was Real Madrid and it was a pity we played against a great Barcelona.

I am not only thinking just to win a title here for myself because I think it is important the club wins a title. But to win the title, you must win more points than the other clubs. I think in the second half every team will drop points, it is important for us to drop fewer.

We have a month of February where we have very important games for the Premier League, to try to continue on the top of the table with Arsenal and Chelsea. After we have knockout games against Chelsea in the FA Cup and the first leg against Barcelona, very difficult games.

From now until the end of the season we must continue in our best form.
