SHEDS were broken into during a spate of crime in Long Ashton.

Between 11pm on January 11 and 4.30am on January 12 a number of sheds and outbuildings were burgled.

Now police officers are urging any bike owners to ensure their possessions are kept secure as they believe the thieves were targeting bicycles.

PC Peter Rooke said: Two mountain bikes were initially stolen but later recovered when the thieves were spooked attempting to break into another shed.

They had broken into both sheds and garages and appear to be organised with various tools to commit their crimes. It is unknown whether they were on foot or using transport.

I want to hear from anyone who may have seen something did you see anyone riding a bike during the early hours in Long Ashton?

As part of the polices crime prevention work, PCSO Laura Wheeler will hold bike marking events in the village throughout this year.

Scientists stumble upon evidence which points toward repeated use of fire by prehistoric humans for cooking meat and other household chores.

Archaeological evidence suggests that prehistoric humans started using fire millions of years ago. But researchers have long puzzled over exactly when humans learned to control fire and start using it in their everyday lives.

A new study suggests that it happened at least 300,000 years ago, in what is today Israel. A paper titled"Evidence for the repeated use of a central hearth at Middle Pleistocene (300 ky ago) Qesem Cave, Israel,"published by scientists from Israel in the Journal of Archaeological Science, describes a hearth in Qesem Cave, an archaeological site located about eight miles eat of Tel Aviv. The cave served as abase camp for early humansand the hearth was repeatedly used for cooking meat, according to a press release from the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Archaeologists found a large number of flint tools, used for cutting meat near the hearth area, as well as inside it. But a few meters away from the hearth, archaeologists found flint tools of a different shape, suggesting that they were used for a different purpose, Ruth Shahack-Gross of the Kimmel Center for Archeological Science at the Weizmann Institute, and one of the authors of the paper, told the Monitor.

The types of ashes and animal bones found around the area point toward the repeated use of fire. Overall, the discoveries point toward the existence of a social order very much like we have today, she says.

To arrive at these findings, the team used a combination of infrared spectroscopy and micro-morphology techniques. Samples collected in and around the hearth area were mixed with potassium bromide. The combination was then inserted into an infrared spectrometer. Using infrared spectroscopy, the team determined that the samples contained bits of bones and soil that had been heated to very high temperature. This indicates that the area had been the site of a hearth.

Dr. Shahack-Gross then carried out a test on the micro-morphology of the ash. A cubic chunk of sediment from the hearth was impregnated with resin, frozen and hardened in the laboratory. Extremely thin slices were then examined under the microscope to determine the composition of the sediments, she says. The composition of the ash revealed that the hearth indeed was used repeatedly over time.

"As far as we know, our findings indicate that this is the first evidence of the earliest formal built fireplace that was used repeatedly by pre-historic humans," Shahack-Gross says.

Trading floor, Nigerian Stock Exchange

The losses witnessed in the stock market on Monday continued on Tuesday as investors continued to take profit.

At the close of trading, a total of 44 stocks recorded price depreciation with only 16 rose, as against 17 gainers and 44 losers the previous day.

The losses dragged the Nigerian Stock Exchange Index down by 1.11 per or 460.48 basis points to close at 41,189.66 basis points, down from 41,650.14 basis points Mondays close.

Similarly, the market capitalisation of the listed equities was down by N148bn or 1.11 per cent to close at N13.204tn, compared to a fall of N81bn recorded in the previous session, which saw it close at N13.351tn.

A review of the sectoral indices showed that the NSE Insurance Index posted the best performance for the day after it rose by 0.35 per cent to close at 150.34 basis points.

A decline of 2.59 per cent saw the NSE Banking Index end the day as the worst performer as it closed at 418.87, down from its previous 430.00 basis points.

Costain (West Africa) Plc topped the gainers table, rising by 9.94 per cent or 18 kobo to close at N1.99 per share, followed by IPWA Plc, which rose by 4.69 per cent or three kobo to close at 67 kobo per share.

Vono Products Plc was up by 4.61 per cent or seven kobo to close at N1.59 per share, while Trans-nationwide Express Plc gained 4.52 per cent to close at N2.08 per share.

UBA Capital Plc, on the other hand, topped the losers table, shedding 9.29 per cent or 21 kobo to close at N2.05 per share.

NSE Index sheds 1.11% as 44 stocks decline

During EA's third quarter 2014 earnings call, the company revealed more about how the finances behind Respawn's Titanfall have been negotiated. EA is projecting Titanfall to sell "conservatively" because it's a platform exclusive on consoles. However, we now understand a bit more about how expenses and revenue related to the project are arranged.

EA moved The Sims 4 out of this fiscal year in favor of Titanfall partially because the publisher has been funding expenses evenly over the development cycle. When Titanfall ships, EA will exclusively reap revenue up to an undisclosed sales threshold. The publisher does not expect to start having to share revenue with Respawn until some time in fiscal year 2015, which begins on April 1, 2014.

EA also says that it expects Titanfall to have significant "additive" impact in fiscal year 2015. Respawn hasn't yet announced a season pass for the title, but EA CFO Blake Jorgensen says that DLC is already in development."We're planning extra content already for the product," CEO Andrew Wilson said. "I think that that will evolve over time as we see how the player base evolves through the year." Respawnalready stated that Titanfall will not include microtransactions.

Our Take We've been interested in how EA and Respawn negotiated the finances to bring Titanfall to market and, afterwards, how the revenue will be split. While this doesn't give us exact details about the threshold for revenue sharing, it does show the framework for the deal. With DLC and season passes extending the tail, the news that DLC is already in the works is no surprise.

EA Earnings Call Sheds Light On Financial Agreement With Respawn, DLC Confirmed

A federal judge on Monday fined All-Out Sewer & Drain co-owner Randy Dingus $15,000 and sentenced him to 30 days in prison for violating the Clean Water Act for his role in illegally dumping septic truck wastes into Longviews sewer system.

In addition, U.S. District Judge Benjamin Settle sentenced Dingus to one year of supervised release with 40 hours of community service, 60 days of location monitoring and a $100 special assessment.

Dingus is allowed to self-report to prison, which usually occurs six to eight weeks from sentencing, according to U.S. Attorneys Office spokeswoman Emily Langlie. The Bureau of Prisons will send Dingus a letter instructing him where to go, Langlie said. He likely will be imprisoned at the Federal Detention Center at SeaTac but could be assigned to a different federal prison, such as the one in Sheridan, Ore., Langlie said Monday.

At 3:30 a.m. Aug. 3, 2012, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency agent witnessed Dingus as he pumped a septic collection truck into a sewer cleanout port behind All-Outs building at 3303 Washington Way in Longview.

In July, Dingus pleaded guilty to one count of violating the federal Clean Water Act and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in the trial of All-Out Sewer owner Ray Caldwell. Under Dinguss plea deal, federal prosecutors agreed not to criminally prosecute him for additional offenses, which the office says it has evidence of Dingus committing related to the case.

The government had requested a sentence of three months and a fine of $25,000 for Dingus, who owned 10 percent of the business. In documents filed with the court, Dinguss attorneys lobbied for a lighter sentence of 180 days electronic home monitoring and 100 hours of community service.

Dinguss attorney, Zenon P. Olbertz of Tacoma, said Dinguss illegal dumping occurred fewer than a dozen times and over a time period of less than a year. Dingus did not benefit financially from his actions, Olbertz argued. In the five to six years Dingus owned a percentage of the business, he was paid $4,000, and in the other years Caldwell told him the business had lost money, according to the court documents. He couldnt afford to pay the $25,000 the government requested the court impose, Olbertz said.

He, at this time, has no means to pay a fine of such magnitude, Olbertz wrote in the defendants sentencing memorandum submitted Thursday. Other than the limited money paid to him discussed above, he received no benefit from Caldwell and All Outs illegal activities.

Caldwell will be sentenced March 10. On Dec. 16, Judge Settle found him guilty of all 33 counts he faced: 25 felony counts of violating the federal Clean Water Act, six counts of mail fraud and two counts of making false statements.

Caldwell was accused of pumping septic waste from his collection trucks into the city sewer system on 25 different dates last year to avoid disposal fees of 10 to 25 cents per gallon. He also is accused of underreporting by hundreds of thousands of gallons the amount of septage he collected from customers.

The transformation of a dwelling into a home worthy of its occupants can take more time than most people plan on. An open lifestyle brings family members and their guests together, often while each party is engaged in different activities. Carpeting or area rugs that are laid down in the family room/living room/dining room will dampen the sound of voices, music, or games. Full length draperies along the window wall or glass doors will work together with the floor covering to further reduce the noise level. Upholstered furniture will take the acoustic level down even further. The second factor to consider in this style of living is the necessary lighting. Overhead pendant light fixtures or chandeliers can provide the central ambient light and will also define a separate room in the open plan. Floor or table lamps will provide the spot light needed for close at hand activities. Now, it is important to establish a focal point for each room, or area of an open floor plan. When the focal point of a room is an obvious architectural detail, such as a fireplace or a large picture window, the furniture layout may appear obvious. But many home dwellers must create the focal point with a design detail that is a lot more original. For some rooms, an effective visual focus is created by applying a sumptuous accent color to one wall. A dramatic accent color is perfect to offset the installation of a beloved oversized statue or other prominent sculptural wall decor. Additional accents can be created with a graphic art or painting collection artfully framed and grouped together on a long wall. A traditional room accent can be established by installing architectural ceiling trim, or by laying a hardwood floor with distinctive details. These design suggestions are just a few of the ways to get the most out of a rooms interior design.

As with any kind of decorating its important to incorporate a blend of textures into the home design. Choose bold-textured fabrics and furniture pieces to create an interesting interior design in a room with a plain construction style. Solid color fabrics such as leather, velvet, silk, or heavy cotton contribute to a rooms textural landscape. The sheen of silk gives the room a lighter feel. The textures of heavily fissured velvets and thick woven cottons add a bolder, more masculine design element. Texture is often overlooked in a room design, but the various fabric and furniture surfaces lend an important visual contribution. In a small room, the use of finely embellished decor elements will make this space appear larger. Intricate fabric designs covering a sofa and chairs will become the primary focal point. A different fabric design selected for full-length drapery will create a secondary design focus. Decor elements such as rugs or pillows, in a solid complimentary color, will accent the finely textured elements in the room. These accents will bolster the interior design over the rooms size.
