Basilica reopens after renovation
New tile flooring installed inside Sacred Heart Basilica on the campus of the University of Notre Dame is shown Monday. The basilica closed for renovations Dec. 26 and reopened Monday. The renovations included the removal of carpeting and the installation of the tile in the aisles. The Rev. Peter Rocca, the basilica's rector, said the removal of the carpeting "will enhance the acoustics in the basilica and eliminate the need of replacing the carpeting every 10 to 15 years."

Minneapolis, Minnesota (PRWEB) January 21, 2014
Minneapolis homeowners are investing in upgrading or remodeling their houses, according to the 2014 Hanley Wood Remodel Cost Vs Value Report released January 16, remodeling sales were up 10 percent nationally, and about a half of the surveyed remodelers agree all home remodel categories are up. Predictions are that 2014 Minneapolis home remodeling trends will continue to see this steady growth and offer homeowners clues as to which home remodeling projects will pay off in 2014.
"Minneapolis home remodel projects can entail a big decision making process for homeowners. One of the best ways to increase the value of your home is to keep the property up and mindful of current trends," says Jenna Thuening, owner of Home Destination. "Should something come up to prompt a move that you weren't necessarily planning, getting your home market ready won't be such a huge task if home remodeling projects are completed and keep a home's decor on par with want buyers want."
The Cost vs. Value Report by Remodeling Magazine is highly anticipated for its precise information on which West North Central, including Minneapolis, home remodeling projects, grant homeowners the best return-on-investment when remodeling. According to the study, the West North Central Region of the US bettered national averages, showing strong improvements in Twin Cites remodeling spending levels.
Listing the top home remodeling projects in Hanley Wood's 2014 Remodeling Cost Vs Value Report, Home Destination numbers them according to their highest return on value:
1) Wood Window Replacements - Wood window replacements average $12,396, with a resale running $9,694, ending up with a recouped value of 78.2 percent. Wood window replacement remodeling projects come in with the highest return value per cost for Minneapolis homeowners. While the cost of wooden replacement windows is significantly higher than vinyl, they will add proportionally to a home's resale value.
2) Wood Deck Addition - Therefore, adding a home deck can end up at a cost recouped of 76.2 percent. A home deck build offers Minneapolis homeowners the chance to enjoy outdoor entertaining more.
3) Home Basement Remodel - Job costs average $17,112 with a resale value of $8,983. The remodeling project has a recouped value of 75.4 percent.
4) Garage Door Replacement - Expect a garage door replacement project cost to be around $1,771, with a resale vale of $1,331, which is a recouped value of 75 percent.
5) Attic Bedroom Remodel - Job cost of a Minneapolis attic bedroom remodel averages $52,291 with a resale value of $44,398, which means the homeowner can anticipate a cost recouped of 74 percent.

SALINE When a senior financial analyst was fed up with corporate America, he and his wife decided to make a drastic move.
Now, they are reaping the benefits and getting ready to open their own storefront.
Brad Bingley and his wife, Amy Nolfo, downsized their home, moved to a house in the country and began selling vintage, antique and repurposed items. Nolfo, who grew up in the antiquing business, handles the antique aspect in her business Butter Beans Antiques and her husband specializes in restoration in his business, The Tao of Restoration.
The couple is getting ready to open a shop in late May or June behind their home in Ottawa Lake.
Nolfo was selling their items at the annual Saline Area Historical Society antique show held Saturday at Liberty School while Bingley was out of town.
They usually sell at larger markets but decided to give the Saline show a try this year because its closer to home.
The crowd has been a buying crowd, she said. You can have a huge show but if no one is buying than you arent making any money.
In both of their businesses, the couple focuses on the cottage-industrial look, which is repurposing antique and industrial items into something more useful for the home. They also turn salvage items such as wood into other items such as kitchen tables.
Thats our goal is the whole urban farmhouse kind of thing, she said.
The event featured 32 antique vendors from throughout the state selling anything from furniture to photos to jewelry. The show is the historical societys largest fundraiser of the year so it is important for there to be good attendance and participation fro the dealers, said Dean Greb, president of the historical society. Shrewsbury's Quarry leisure centre and swimming pool is not fit for purpose and needs updating, the towns MP has said.
Daniel Kawczynski said recent conversations with local swimmers have highlighted the need for the towns current facilities to be improved.
It comes as he asks county swimmers to contribute to a new report about the centre.
Mr Kawczynski has asked representatives of various county swimming clubs to provide him with statistics about how many people currently use the pool and what replacement facilities would be required.
Shropshire Council has earmarked the site as a potential location for a new 40 million five-star hotel.
Private investors are being sought to fund the building of a new 200-bedroom hotel, with the Quarry Swimming and Fitness Centre named as one location under consideration.
But the local authority revealed last week it has no money available to build a replacement swimming pool.
The report being drawn up by Mr Kawczynski will include details on how many clubs make use of the pool from across Shropshire, what the effect of the potential pool closure would be if there was no replacement and how facilities could be improved.
It will be sent to Shropshire Council bosses for them to take into consideration.
Mr Kawczynski said whether the hotel plans come to fruition or not, it is clear from his conversations with swimmers that the facilities are in need of updating.
