New Cloud Storage Software From Ann Arbor Company

    - January 20, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) Portal Architects Inc. announced the general market availability of version 2.7 of its SkySync software.

The company says SkySync is a simple yet powerful Windows app that enables organizations of any size to synchronize or migrate files across most storage systems including cloud platforms, Microsoft SharePoint and network file-shares.

SkySync transforms the process of migrating or syncing on-site files to cloud platforms into simple steps that take only minutes, Portal Architects CTO Steve Woodward said. For network file systems, SkySync offers advanced capabilities that enable admins to automatically link and maintain entire groups of user home-drives to their cloud storage accounts with only a few clicks.

Also, Woodward said, SkySyncs new filtering capabilities prevent files like .db, .cmd and other file-types from moving your cloud storage platform. You can even filter by file creation date, last-modified date range, or file-name. Plus, its granular reporting capabilities provide system admins a complete audit trail of all file filter and transfer actions.

Mark Brazeau, Portal Architects co-founder, added that SkySyncs scalable architecture is designed to easily manage over 100 million file-transfers per instance across any number of connected systems. It resolves file conflicts and system caveats automatically, so migrating large-volumes of files to the cloud or having them co-exist with your on-premises storage is easy.

SkySync is designed to meet the demands of businesses of all sizes, from a single workstation to multiple servers transferring terabytes of files. SkySync includes connectors for Microsoft SharePoint 2007, SharePoint 2010, SharePoint 2013, Microsoft Office 365, Box, Huddle, DropBox, SkyDrive, Google Drive, Citrix ShareFile, SugarSync, Documentum, as well as network file systems. Connectors for Egnyte, Copy by Barracuda, and SalesForce are also incorporated within the version 2.7 release.

Portal Architects is a software development company comprised of senior .Net architects and engineers with extensive enterprise content management and Microsoft SharePoint development expertise.

Charlotte Atkins: Staffordshire County Council ignored public’s …

    - January 20, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Comments(0)

STAFFORDSHIRE County Council has apparently gone to great lengths to consult on the future of Learning Disability Day Services initial briefings, questionnaires, focus groups for carers, one to one meetings, focus groups for service users and market place events over a period of three months.

We were told in the report that went to the county councils Conservative cabinet last week that the consultation adhered to the guidelines of consultation best practice, and all necessary steps were taken to gather as many views as possible.

The response rate of 750 was good, in addition to petitions signed by thousands of local residents.

But, as 80 per cent of respondents rejected the preferred option of the county council to close day centres for people with learning disabilities and farm out support for our most vulnerable citizens, the consultation has been totally ignored. The whole process has been a monumental scam.

What does this mean for around 460 people currently supported by Day Centres in Staffordshire? Their lifeline is being is being stripped away with nothing credible to replace it.

The day centres are a haven for users, giving them a social life and providing the only respite most carers ever get.

The centres have been characterised as taking people with learning disabilities away from their communities. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Most clients do not attend the centres every day, and even when they do, the caring, trusted professional staff help them use local community facilities such as swimming, gardening and sailing.

Thirty per cent of all adults who currently use the day centres, around 140 vulnerable people, are likely to be assessed as no longer eligible for any support.

Wyoming man’s trophy display shows passion for hunting

    - January 20, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

LARAMIE Its called the trophy room, and it sits on the west side of the longtime west Laramie business, The Boardwalk.

Inside, more than 50 trophies of all shapes and sizes are mounted on the wall and displayed in cases, along with saddles, antique guns, American Indian artifacts and family heirlooms. The room is open to visitors who pass through the store.

Owner William Rob Vogel, an Albany County native, has run the family business for more than 45 years. The trophy room is his museum of memories, and it shows off his passions for hunting and history.

Some of my most fond memories of my younger life were getting out. No telephone, no cars, no nothing, he said. I have a lot of good memories.

Vogel, 63, was born in Rock River, where his father, Bud, served as mayor and ran a lumberyard and motel. His grandfather homesteaded near Arlington, where his grandmother was the postmistress.

The Vogels moved to Laramie in the 1960s and opened The Boardwalk in 1967, remodeling the original building and constructing additions as they expanded. Inside, custom woodwork adorns the rafters and doors. A back room with one wall made of logs reflects the teenage Vogels desire to live in a log cabin, his wife, Crystal, said.

Today, the Vogels sell and repair saddles and tack, repair shoes and boots and run a Western-themed gift shop.

In the trophy room, a collection of rifles dating back to the 1800s hangs on one wall. One belonged to Vogel as a child living on a Rock River ranch. His mother gave him five bullets at a time, and he had to make them count.

I couldnt just shoot them all up. There were a lot of jackrabbits around the ranch, and theyd just eat you out of house and home. I had to shoot a couple of jackrabbits, he said.

His first antelope is mounted high on the wall near the entrance. He got that one when he was 16, hunting with his grandfather.

GSP LLC Now Offering Custom Built Homes

    - January 20, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Augusta, GA (PRWEB) January 20, 2014

The company residents and businesses of the CSRA can always depend on for remodeling and roofing needs has now begun construction on its first custom home.

GSP LLC is currently building a energy-efficient home using green materials, fiber cement siding, paint with low volatile organic compounds, tankless hot water heaters and custom-stamped concrete flooring. GSP LLC is also now a member of IKO ShieldPRO plus+ Contractor Program, and offers the programs Extended Iron Clad Protection for roofing projects. Not only can GSP LLC help build a custom home, but they can also help their clients to design one.

There are several benefits to having a custom home built, the first obviously that it gives the owner everything he or she is looking for in a home, and nothing he or she doesnt want. They are also extremely low-maintenance, as the newest materials will be used to construct it. Custom homes are also very energy-efficient, as energy standards have changed dramatically even just during the past few years. Due to the way they were constructed, its usually extremely difficult to improve efficiency in older homes. Also, theres currently a Federal Residential Energy Efficiency Tax Credit which allows up to 30 percent of certain green building materials to be deducted from taxes. Finally, a custom home allows the floor plans to be much more modern. Floors in older homes are seldom focused on traffic, making them feel like a collection of rooms. In modern times, the kitchen, living and dining spaces tend to come together in a design that enhances family contact and interaction.

GSP LLCs other services include interior and exterior remodeling, home builder services, design-build services, ASID-affiliated service, windows and siding, painting and padding, air conditioning installation, insurance claim work, frame work and tile, brick and wood work. GSP LLC is located at 3124 Washington Road, Suite H, Augusta, Ga. For more information, please visit their website at http://www.georgiasubcontracting.com, or call 803-430-6245.

About the Company: GSP offers remodeling, custom homes and commercial general contracting. Whether for business or residential, when customers have a desire to embellish their environment, it is GSPs job to answer it. When it comes to construction in Augusta, GA and the CSRA, trust Georgia Subcontracting Professionals (GSP), LLC.

Ogle County sheriff leaves money unspent

    - January 20, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

OREGON Government agencies often spend every cent they get. Sometimes they dont.

In the past 2 years, Ogle County Sheriff Michael Harn has left unspent more than $1 million from his annual budgets.

According to the county treasurers numbers, Harn didnt spend $766,000 in his budget last fiscal year and $572,000 the previous year. His budget includes law enforcement, corrections, and building and grounds for all county property.

In the 2013 budget, Harns unspent money included $350,000 for repairs and maintenance of buildings, including redoing the heating and cooling system for a county building, Treasurer John Coffman said. The sheriff handles the countys buildings and grounds.

Projects were planned, Coffman said, and for whatever reason didnt happen.

While the countys budgeting process wont begin for about 6 months, Ogle County Chairman Kim Gouker said, there might be a review to determine whether the Sheriffs Department or others are being overbudgeted.

Theres no point in budgeting funds, if theyre not necessary, he said.

Harn did not respond to requests for comment.

Gouker said Harn had saved money for the county by working to get favorable contracts for natural gas and electricity for county buildings.

The sheriff is also saving money by having patrol cars fill up at the gas pumps the county owns, he said, and has increased revenue the county receives from federal inmates who are housed by the U.S. Marshals Service at the Ogle County Jail.

New bank building will have old look

    - January 20, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

A rendering of what the new bank and office building on North Road will look like. It is modeled after an 18th-century home in Cambridge.

CHELMSFORD -- A bank and office building is taking shape on North Road that will be closely modeled after an 18th-century home in Cambridge.

The 9,700 square-foot two-story building won approvals from town boards last year and survived a legal appeal from an abutter who challenged the Planning Board's backing of the project, saying the building didn't abide by a preservation restriction on the site.

The building, according to a stipulation signed by the Board of Selectmen in 2000, "shall be modeled" after an 18th-century Cambridge home of British army officer John Vassell. It was the property's former owner, Rodger Currie, a dentist who died in 2011, who wanted the building to have that certain look, said Robert McCrensky, who now owns and is developing the site.

"It's a very prominent family from the 1700s, and he loved the design," McCrensky said, adding later, "I think his dream will come true."

Cedar siding on the front wall and brick side walls, along with intricate architectural details, will make the building unique, he said.

"This may be one of the most historically accurate buildings built in this area in 20 or 30 years," McCrensky said.

Construction crews were pouring a concrete foundation for the building this week, with plans to have the building complete by around August.

The Planning Board granted special-permit approval last summer for a building with a bank and drive-through teller on the first floor and offices on the second floor.

But abutter William Harvey, who owns 23-24 North Road, appealed, saying the project did not comply with the preservation restriction. The only evidence that the proposed building would be modeled after the home of the British officer was a photo of what the front of the building would look like, Harvey said in a lawsuit.
