Last year, the interior design world lost one of its early masters with the death of British tastemaker Michael Inchbald, who established the first interior design school in Europe, the Inchbald School of Design, in a single room in the basement of his west Knightsbridge home. Upon receiving a tour, decorator Henrietta Spencer-Churchill remarked that she was "instantly struck by his innate sense of proportion and ability to mix styles to create an eclectic yet harmonious space," but apparently his stately, well-curated abode didn't always work work in his favor professionally; Inchbald himself was known to confess that the place's theatricality often intimidated clients. Next week, Christie's in London is auctioning off many of the antique pieces of furniture and works of art decorating the Stanley House, as it's known, and to commemorate the final days of the home in its current state, Heather Clawson of Habitually Chic recently showcased a batch of interior shots highlighting its seamless mix of neoclassical and modern sensibilities. Get the rundown below before these pieces go to the highest bidder.
Photo via Habitually Chic Though Inchbald's commissioned works often displayed a more modern vibelike the Queen's Room he designed for the QE2, once hailed as "the most successful marine interior ever conceived," if you're one for superlative quotesaside from a few light touches and the lively coloring on the walls, his home kept firm foot in the past. On the left, a sitting room's fancifully arched entryway is framed by works of art from Inchbald's collection, whose oldest piece for sale dates back to around 332 B.C. Pictured to the right, a George II silver epergne from 1736 looking delightfully anachronistic on a transparent table set off by floral print wallpaper.
Photo via Habitually Chic Two views on the drawing room, easily the most successful interior of the lot, with one of two neo-Egyptian bronze and ormolu candelabras pictured on the right, which hope to bring in anywhere from $114,730 to $163,900 at auction. On the left, a handsome amaranth bureau plat with surface inset with black leather, and in the background, a wooden model of the Torre Dell'Orologio.

Its been in the works for a year, but Kourtney Kardashians total home makeover is finally done and it looks amazing.
The reality star worked with interior decorator Jeff Andrews to create the modern whimsical look of her home. And it carries out throughout the whole house from her living room to office.
This was the dining room when we moved in and it evolved into a whatever room, she Kardashian said. The piano was in my parents house since I was born and my mom gave it to me. The black and white chairs were also in my house as a child and I had them redone. The hot pink chaise was Khloes she didnt want it. I said to her, Im going to redo this and youre going to regret it. And she does.
Were loving the personality in each room and how details of her parents are incorporated throughout the home.

Milton resident Brian Kelley said hes never liked the blinking LED sign perched on top of the Kennedy Carpet building on Granite Street, the red and yellow lights flickering like a billboard in East Milton Square.
A lot of my neighbors dont like it, either, Kelley said in a phone interview. I just think it looks bad. I dont think it enhances the business or enhances the town.
The sign has been unpopular since its installation in 2008 and was even moved to another side of the building in 2011 to accommodate upset neighbors.
Amid discussions of the buildings future, Kelley is hopeful the sign will be taken down. Yet despite unpopular opinions, the message board isnt likely to be removed in the near future.
Milton selectmen have been reviewing the sign and a proposed lease agreement for the building since December.
At a December selectmens meeting, Jay Kennedy, building owner and owner of Kennedy Carpet Sales, said he was hoping to lease the building and move his 35-year-old business to another site.
Its a tough spot, he said to selectmen. I cant tell you how many times people have driven to my warehouse in Weymouth and say its easier to come here.
Despite Kennedy's investing over $1 million in the building, tenants have been hard to come by. Sleepys, The Mattress Professionals, has made the first legitimate offer for the lease in nearly two years, town officials said, and the company is mainly interested in the sign.
While it is not the Town or the Board of Selectmen's responsibility or obligation to be concerned with the financial well being of a private citizen, we are all caring human beings and certainly do not want to add to Mr. Kennedy's financial woes, said Selectman Tom Hurley in a group email to concerned residents. It is my feeling that at this point denying the LED sign would result in the deal with Sleepy's falling through. It comes down to what is worse, the LED sign or a vacant or foreclosed building?

The HAL-RSLED-240W Wall Pack Light from Larson Electronics is a Class 1 Division 2, Class 2 Division 1 & 2 hazardous location light fixture that provides 21,300 lumen of high quality light while drawing only 240 watts. The copper free die-cast aluminum alloy body is powder coated for added durability and an attractive aesthetic appearance. Light weight and a low profile make this unit an attractive alternative to larger and heavier older fixtures and require less hardware to install. This robust luminaire can outperform a 400 watt metal halide fixture in brightness while consuming half the power.
This light is multi-voltage capable and can be operated with 90-277 VAC, 127-300 VDC, or 347-477 VAC. The aluminum body and LED lamp give this light excellent durability and resistance to vibration and impacts. The housing is specially designed to dissipate heat which increases the efficiency and lifespan of the LED luminaires. A special heat dissipating design in conjunction with LED technology helps this fixture to achieve an excellent 100,000 hour rated lifespan with 80% lumen retention. This fixture has multiple mounting options including direct conduit, pole mounting, surface mounting with a wall bracket and cable mounting.
This LED Wall Pack can be configured in a flood or spot beam making it a versatile option for any application, Rob Bresnahan with Larsonelectronics.com said.

Every year, the American Institute of Architects invites its memberssome 83,000 licensed architectsto enter the buildings they've designed in the past five years for an award. It's about as solid an award as an architect can receive, and this year's winners were just made public.
The projects range from museums to train stations to hotels; it's a diverse bunch, which you can peruse below. Keep in mind, these were chosen by a committee of working designers selected by the primary professional organization for architects in the U.S. Ot's fun to know what projects architects choose to honor from amongst their ranks.

This museum occupies the last surviving antebellum railroad complex, in Savannah, which required Dawson Architects to completely transform a National Historic Landmark building without actually harming the landmark itself. All around the structure, particular pieces of crumbling history are highlighted with light or framed with glass. It's a really beautiful example of what some call "living preservation."

Cass Gilberta pioneer who built many of America's earliest skyscrapersisn't well known by many Americans these days, but he built some of the most beautiful buildings in the country. For example: St. Louis Public Library's Central Library, from 1912, which Cannon Design left intact by building its new structure inside of Gilbert's facade.

A former Bengals player is investing millions of dollars to transform downtown Cincinnati's Tower Place Mall.
Construction has started on what will be called Mabley Place, a parking garage and retail space in the building known as Tower Place Mall on West Fourth Street. Former Bengals player Chinedum Ndukwe is overseeing the project through his real estate development firm Kingsley Wells Enterprises.
Along with other investors and a partnership with JDL Warm Construction, the multimillion dollar project will add 775 parking spaces and 8400 square feet of street-front retail space to downtown.
The project will serve the needs of area hotels, shops, the Duke Energy Convention Center and developing office and residential projects.
Ndukwe's firm, Kingsley Wells Enterprises, will be one of the first storefront businesses to open in Mabley Place.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
