Norwich, Norfolk (PRWEB UK) 10 January 2014
From this month, Monthind will take over the commercial cleaning contracts of two Norfolk-based companies. Tony Clarke, Managing Director of Monthind commented: Though this acquisition saw 45 members of staff transferring to Monthind under TUPE regulations, our experience with taking on contracts of this size meant that the whole process was virtually seamless and both our new staff and clients can be assured of business as usual.
The new commercial cleaning contracts have been added to the growing portfolio of clients run from Monthinds Norwich office. The company already offers a diverse range of commercial and specialist cleaning services throughout East Anglia, from public sector and forensic cleaning to pest control and waste management, and expanding its service further in to new areas will mark further growth for the business, which employs 950 staff and is the largest independent cleaning company in the East of England.
Monthinds Business Manager Chris Brown, sees the additional revenue and clients as excellent complements to its developing operations in the Norfolk region. The office cleaning contracts predominantly cater for areas west of Norwich, where we are seeing significant growth says Chris, while the second represents further expansion in to high street window cleaning. We already produce and maintain our own pure water supply from our Norwich depot, so expanding our residue-free window cleaning services in Norfolk is a great new development for Monthind, which really complements our current contracts in the area.
Mr Clarke concluded High quality contracts like these have become a key part of our targeted growth strategy. As Monthind grows, acquisitions give us an extra boost towards maintaining and strengthening our position as one of the largest independent commercial cleaning organisations in East Anglia.
Monthind offers cleaning and janitorial solutions on both a contracted and ad-hoc basis. For more information, please visit http://www.monthindclean.co.uk.
About Monthind Clean LLP: Monthind has been established as a business since 1975. After gradually expanding throughout East Anglia, the company now employs 950 members of staff, and serves a wide range of clients from small independent businesses to large public sector organisations such as Essex Police. In recent years, Monthind has seen a diversification in its service offerings. Developing from a traditional contract cleaning business, the company now additionally provides in-house window cleaning solutions, a full range of specialist cleaning facilities, caretaking operations, property maintenance, concierge services, and even forensic and biohazard cleaning, which involves dealing with crime scenes, road traffic accidents, and soiled police cells, among other complex situations.

PulseWallet: Weve all had that moment of sickening realisation that your wallet is still sitting at home/in the office/in the car just at the very moment you need to pay for something. But that could be a thing of the past if a new technology becomes a widespread thing. PulseWallet uses a scan of your palm to verify your identity and take payment from a card linked to your biometric data. Designed to be more secure than fingerprint reading or other methods of identification, the technology has been developed by Fujitsu and could be in use later this year.
Yellow Jacket Stun Gun case: You may never see these products in Ireland, and with good reason too. The Yellow Jacket phone cases arent your average outerwear for your delicate technology; they team protection for your phone with protection for your person in this case, a stun gun. Stun guns are, last time we checked, illegal in Ireland. The latest product from Yellow Jacket is a stun gun case for the iPhone 5/5S; the company previously offered the case for the iPhone 4/4S. There are plans to introduce a similar option for Samsung Galaxy S4 users. The stun gun delivers 650,000 volts of electricity, and the entire thing comes in a choice of colours.
Bamboo Kitchen stand for iPad with Knife Storage: Last year, CTA Digital gave us the iPotty, a plastic childs toilet with a holder for your iPad, so your toilet-training toddler could keep up to date with world events. Or more likely watch Disney films and mash their fist on the screen in an attempt to play Angry Birds. This year, the company is offering a stand for your iPad that also doubles as a knife storage block. Made from bamboo, the stand will hold the iPad in portrait or landscape mode, and has an adjustable stand to make it easy for you to view it. Theres a stylus too; just dont get confused with your kitchen implements.
Intels dual boot PCs: Sometimes you want your tablet to do a little more. And sometimes you want your laptop to be a little simpler. Now you have the best of both worlds, thanks to Intels dual boot devices. At the touch of a touch of a button, you switch your devices between Windows and Android. The idea is that your notebook can be a PC when its needed, but change to Android when its required.
Winbot: Who actually enjoys cleaning their windows? No one we know, thats for sure. So it stands to reason that someone somewhere would come up with a better way to get the task done. Hopefully involving robots. And lo and behold, heres the Winbot. The device will automatically clean your windows, using sensors to determine when its reached the edge of the glass, and avoid collisions. Think of your robot hoover, but vertical.

Published: 1/10/2014 3:17 PM | Last update: 1/10/2014 3:17 PM Hints from Heloise
Dear Heloise: I read the article in your newspaper column about the little dog that stepped on the automatic window control that opened the window.
A relative and I were riding in the back seat, and her little dog stepped on the window control, and the window went up.
He had his head hanging out the window, but he was little enough that the window slid under his chin, which just pushed him back in.
If it had been a bigger dog with his head hanging out the window, it would have been a terrible thing. So the master lock in the "off" position is a great idea. - A Constant Reader, Columbus, Mont.
Constant Reader: Oh my! So glad the little dog is OK! - Heloise
Dear Heloise: I had been hunting for an easy solution with some serious cleaning power to get my son's shower back to sparkling clean.
I used some white vinegar, and put it in a spray bottle with a few squirts of grease-cutting dishwashing soap.
My son sprayed the walls and tub of his shower thoroughly, let it sit for an hour, then scrubbed it down with a plastic scrubber, followed by a rinse of hot water. His shower was cleaner than mine!
This definitely is a household hint we'll be using more often! - Faye D. in North Dakota

After a visit from home entertainment robot Keecker last week, it was obvious that CES 2014 would host some exciting robots. Here are a few that offered unusual or just plain awesome applications:
Watch the video; these things look fun. The MiniDrone is all the fun of a drone in a design that wont destroy the inside of your home (well, maybe a little), while the Jumping Sumo is like a modern remote controlled car that can actually leap several feet into the air.
These should appeal to both kids and adults. Ive got my eye on the MiniDrone mostly, which can be attached to a set of large wheels to roll on the floor, wall or ceiling.
The WinBot seemed to win the most media attention this week, as it tackles a universally hated task: window cleaning. Its a Roomba for your windows. It adheres via an internal vacuum and has a backup system to prevent it from falling. It looks like it takes more work to keep up than a Roomba, but for people with large or tall windows, this could be a nice tool.
What else do people hate cleaning? Grills. Enter Grillbot. This little guy chugs along the surface of your grill cleaning it with a spinning brass or stainless steel brush.
Unlike a Roomba, Grillbot isnt smart enough to keep itself from falling off a ledge. So if your grill doesnt have a lip, youll have to close the cover and let it do its work in peace.
The FamiBot, which, like the WinBot, is made by EcoVacs, reminded me a little bit of Keecker. Its a general-purpose bot meant to assist the entire family, whether thats by playing music or monitoring the home for intruders. It has some unexpected features like the ability to detect smoke and purify air. It can also integrate with other electronics to turn them on or off.

The Holiday Inn Resort, Panama City Beach, kicks off the New Year with several projects to enhance the resort and the vacation experience for springtime of 2014. During the month of January the resort will be working to enhance Aqualand - their kids water playground - with new water toys, as well as adding additional seating in the large lagoon style pool, enhancing the WiFi experience, and installing new tile on several floors of the resort.
We are working hard to keep our resort at the level of excellence our valued guests deserve, while evolving for their future enjoyment, says Jay Canales, Director of Facilities Maintenance for the Holiday Inn Resort.
Its out with the old and in with the new for Aqualand as the resort team replaces a few of the older water features with fun new water toys for kids to explore. These new toys will include an Aquawave and Aquatips Tippin Pirates; the team hopes to have all the new toys in place by February 1st, 2014.
We are very fortunate to have so many of our guests that have become a part of our resort family and visit year after year. We do our best to keep our resort fresh and full of new, exciting features and activities for our loyal guests to enjoy each year, says Philip Colvin, Director of Marketing for the Holiday Inn Resort.
Last year the resort enhanced their large lagoon style pool with underwater speakers, LED lighting, and underwater bench seating. The underwater benches quickly became a favorite spot to relax and it didnt take long for the resort to see the need to expand the seating area, and that is exactly what they plan to do.
During the busy spring and summer season the underwater benches became a prime location for relaxation, and by the middle of the summer we already started making plans for expanding the in-pool seating area so that we could better accommodate our guests. Were also looking to place the Dive-Inn Movie Screen up above the waterfall, so that guests can sit and relax in the pool while watching the movie, Colvin said.
The small fountain pool will remain open and heated for guests to enjoy all month, but for a short time the large pool will close to install additional underwater seating.
As the resort amps up for the spring and summer season the resort team is working hard to make sure that everything is in its best shape from top to bottom. Some of the other projects around the resort will enhance the aesthetic, with new slate tile on the higher level guest floors, as well as increase functionality with a stronger Wifi system and more throughput for all of the guests connected devices.
We hope to have these enhancements completed quickly for you and your family to enjoy, but during the process there may be some noise that comes from these projects between 9am - 5pm. We tried to pick a time of day where there will be the least amount of guests in their rooms, and we will do our best to cause as little disturbance to our guests stay as possible, says Colvin. The Holiday Inn Resort team is aware that our guests have other accommodation options, and are thankful for our guests loyalty to our resort and for their understanding as we work through these enhancements.

Fine Design Living (http://www.FineDesignLiving.com), one of the Greater Toronto Areas leading boutique design and build firms and specializing in high-quality exterior and interior custom renovations for residential and commercial clients, is announcing its top cost-effective way to prevent expensive patio, walkway, and driveway repairs as a result of seasonal buckling.
No matter what time of year it is, stone projects such as interlocking stone driveways and natural stone walkways and patios can shift and buckle due to changes in temperature. This is due to seasonal freeze and thaw cycles that occur every year. says Braden White, owner of Fine Design Living. Unfortunately, having to make repairs, sometimes annually, can be extremely expensive and time-consuming.
With the extreme seasonal temperatures experienced in the GTA, White explains, its imperative that property owners hire contractors that are familiar with and use the latest construction trends. When it comes to enhancing the appearance of a propertys landscape with interlocking or natural stone, using the proper base material is one of the most important steps. Using the most advanced base material increases the strength, durability, and longevity of a project; cutting corners by using improper, inadequate or outdated base material can result in costly repairs.
Over the years, there have been many different types of materials used for the base of interlocking and natural stone projects such as driveways, walkways, and patios, he adds. Only the most experienced and knowledgeable companies use the kind of products that ensure a projects longevity.
Fine Design Living uses Ultrabase, a roller-compacted concrete (RCC) that turns into a concrete base once compacted; this prevents the unwanted shifting of stone that can occur after just one season. Although there is a premium to use this kind of material, it typically pays for itself, as customers dont have to worry about the expense of unwanted repairs.
Hiring a contractor that uses an RCC base for stone projects helps reduce the worry of shifting or any deformation of a newly installed stone project. Unlike the base products used by less experienced contractors, using an RCC base can increase the sustainability of an outdoor project up to 10 or more years, White concludes. Those interested in a new backyard patio or other outdoor project should contact an experienced design and build firm like Fine Design Living to help them better understand the benefits of using an RCC base for their next stone project.
