Black Mold Forces Gainesville Apartment Residents Out of Their Units, My Cleaning Products Shares a Way to Prevent the …

    - January 11, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Gainesville, FL (PRWEB) January 10, 2014

Black mold was discovered in one Gainesville apartment complex. In response to it, My Cleaning Products gave out a remediation tip to help the public protect themselves from its many health effects.

According to a report from wcjb.com, which was posted on January 08, 2014, the fungus' presence was found in a total of four apartment units, My Cleaning Products shared. As a result of it, residents of them were evacuated to hotels, it relayed.

The code enforcement, detailed the report, discovered the mold initially in just one apartment, related MCP. However, it added that Community Housing Partners later confirmed that three more units contain the harmful spores.

It was said in the post that residents believed the black mold worsened the asthma problems of the children in the building.

Below is an excerpt from the article Black Mold Found in Gainesville Apartments by My Cleaning Products.

An infestation of black mold could happen anywhere. However, one of the places it recently plagued was an apartment building in Gainesville.

With black mold linked to various health issues, many think that the complex is unsafe for families to live in. One resident of Horizon House Apartments, Erica Brown, even voiced out that the structures should just be torn down and rebuilt.

Black mold poses serious threats to health, My Cleaning Products said. Therefore, one must get rid of it as quickly as possible, it asserted.

However, that doesn't mean other common types of mold could be taken lightly, it stressed. Like black mold, they could also bring in major health problems if ignored for long. And so, they must be eliminated promptly as well.

Families battling mold in Gainesville apartment complex

    - January 11, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Erica Browns 6-year-old son doesnt understand why his family cant go home.

Brown and her three young children have been living in a hotel since Monday because of a serious mold problem in her Horizon House apartment.

Its not even safe to go into the apartment, the smell is so horrid, the 26-year-old single mother said. I want a place where I can not be worried about things getting into the walls and into our lungs.

She first noticed the problem last year, only a few months after moving into the complex located at 1515 NW 10th St.

Both she and her two daughters suffer from asthma, so after spotting mold on the ceiling of her bathroom, Brown immediately called maintenance. She was ignored for months. Finally, maintenance came by and discovered the toilet in the apartment upstairs was leaking. The worker sprayed the room with bleach and painted over the area.

Last week, Brown discovered black mold in the closet of the room her 4-year-old and 19-month-old daughters share.

Despite pleas to the landlord and maintenance staff, nothing was done. The complex offered to move her to another apartment, but after talking to neighbors, Brown realized it wouldnt make a difference.

Resident Walette Mulberry, 38, has been battling mold since she moved into her apartment five years ago. Lately, its been getting worse.

Now, she and her two kids ages 8 and 11 sleep in the living room. One of the three bedrooms serves as their closet and changing areas. The other rooms are covered with mold.

Another resident, Onteria Lawrence, had to throw away boxes of clothing, a pile of DVDs and assorted dining room furniture because of mildew.

Woodland Park council reorganizes with hopes of saving Great Notch Reservoir

    - January 11, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

WOODLAND PARK - The governing body this year plans to find alternatives to the Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) plan to drain the scenic reservoirs at Garret Mountain. The borough also hopes to implement wireless internet access at more borough parks, and save residents' money with a plan to decrease flood insurance rates.

At Woodland Park's 2014 reorganization meeting on Wednesday Mayor Keith Kazmark holds a mass swearing in ceremony for dozens of borough officials and volunteers. Also shown is the mayor swearing in this year's Council President Joseph Spinelli while Councilwoman Rita Pascrell holds the bible.

Although Woodland Park may still end up in litigation with the water commission, the town is not looking for a "street fight" when it comes to comes to opposing to the water commission plan, Mayor Keith Kazmark said during his state of the borough address at the reorganization meeting Wednesday night.

"We will ... seek and discuss alternatives to their plan," he said in his prepared remarks. "Exploring the environmental impact, the possibility of working with the City of Newark to use the Ridge Road Reservoir in Cedar Grove to save the Great Notch Reservoir and working with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection will all be pursued in the next 30 days."

The Record reported in April of last year that the two reservoirs are connected by a small series of pipes and that it would be possible to install larger pipes to further link up the two reservoirs for a sharing of drinking water.

In fact, the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) administrative consent order which mandates changes to the reservoirs requires the commission talk with the City of Newark about the possibility of sharing the Great Notch and the Ridge Road Reservoirs, Joseph Bella, executive director of the commission said.

"Instead of having two, you'd have one reservoir that might have tanks or treatment," he told Passaic Valley Today. "It might be better off to put in tanks, but you have to look at the hydraulics."

The reservoirs already share water in the event that one is out of order, Bella said on Friday, but added that the plan to replace the Great Notch Reservoir is still about seven years down the road and that it is too early to intelligently discuss such a plan.

"Its not something that's on our front burner at this point because were trying to get the first phase done," he said a reference to the Stanley M. Levine Reservoir in Paterson. "We probably wouldn't start that for another seven years."

Osage County home shines in new movie

    - January 11, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

PAWHUSKA, Okla. - On this day, even a thick fog can't shroud its beauty.

It's a regal southern home in the rolling hills of northern Osage County.

"We'd rollerskate on the outside porches in the summertime and in the winter we'd go up in the attic and rollerskate," said Bob Boulanger, who grew up in the house.

Little did he know that years later another more famous family would move in -- the Weston family, from the film August: Osage County.

The troubled, fictitious family called the house home in the fall of 2012 during filming of the major Hollywood movie.

"Didn't even have a clue that they would pick this house for a movie," said Bob.

For Bob it's not a movie set, it's home.

Bob lived in the house from the time he was a baby in the late 1940s until the early 1980s.

"This was my parent's room here," said Bob, pointing at an upstairs bedroom.

In the movie it's Meryl Streep's bedroom.

    Clare: Extending neighborly kindness

    - January 11, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Our best option, we now imagine, is to save ourselves and those like us on the basis of a lifeboat ethics that rewards ruthlessness.

from Nicolaus Mills, The Triumph of Meanness

As I read Mills book on meanness, I wonder if we really have become a mean society. Today, I helped shovel snow from two sidewalks and porches.

Then I shoveled a space at the bus stop near us so people wont have to stand in the street. It was cold; my nose was running and my fingers were moving from pain to numbness by the time I was finished.

I have seen others in Norwood do the same in their neighborhoods, and have seen people clear snow from fire hydrants and storm drains. I know of people offering to help others clear snow all over town. Surely, the above quote isnt about our one-on-one social behavior; its clear to me that a reasonable number of us are simply not mean at a personal level.

Then, I think about the occasional email I get from some acquaintance or other, wittily lambasting the unemployed, the overweight, or those needing food stamps. I remember the glib bumper stickers shouting disrespect for our elected leaders or a hatred of immigrants.

And it is not just aimed at people unlike the perpetrator. Often as not, the owner of that bumper sticker could lose a few pounds, and most of us descend from immigrant ancestors.

I do not know when cleverness became an acceptable substitute for civility, but Im embarrassed to find Ive been tolerating it without awareness.

Accusations and condemnations we aim at segments of our society usually lack reason. They intend to shock, entertain, and/or insult. Were really better than this. I know because I see it in my town on snowy days.

Perhaps we should consider not always exercising our individual right to free speech when that talk hurts or misrepresents.
