Decks cleared for Vijay starrer Jilla’s release

    - January 9, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

A City Civil Court in Chennai on Thursday dismissed an application filed by a film producer seeking to restrain the maker of the film from releasing or exploiting the movie under the title Jilla.

    R. Naraja, XVI Assistant City Civil Judge said, There is no prima facie case made out for granting the relief of temporary injunction. R. Mahendran of Sowmita Sri Arts filed the suit along with interim application seeking to restrain Super Good Films from releasing, distributing or exhibiting the Tamil film titled Jilla without altering the title.

Mr. Mahendran also said he was the owner of all the rights and title Jilla which was the dubbed version of a popular Telugu movie named Bhageeratha. Apart from being a member of the Film and Television Producers Guild of South India, he said he had also registered the title Jilla in 2008. He released the film in some areas and was waiting to release in other areas. The petitioner added that his film business would be affected if the film titled Jilla starring Vijay is released without changing the title.

    P. L. Narayanan, counsel for Super Good Films said that the petitioner had no right to claim the title and the registration expired last year. He came to court only just two days before the release even though the title was widely publicised several months ago and spent money on advertisement.

Dismissing the interim application, Mr. Naraja pointed out that the petitioner had not renewed the title and he was not member of the Film and Television Producers Guild of South India. Pointing out that the petitioner had filed the suit belatedly, the Judge said, No reason was stated by the petitioner why he has not filed the suit earlier.

Resource International, Inc. Uses High Speed/High Resolution Ground Penetrating Radar to Evaluate the Conditions of …

    - January 9, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Columbus, OH (PRWEB) January 09, 2014

Resource International, Inc. (Rii) is one of the few firms across the US that uses Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to identify and locate delaminations in bridge decks and substructures. Unlike other inspection methods, GPR does not require lane closures since all surveys are completed at highway speed. Rii uses equipment manufactured by Geophysical Survey Systems, Inc. (GSSI), the worlds leading manufacturer of GPR, whose antennas feature the highest signal-to-noise ratio of any antenna available in the industry, providing the highest quality data with clear and accurate results. Our survey vehicle is equipped with GSSI SIR-30 radar system and two 1 GHz air-launched antennas attached to the rear of a van on an adjustable mounting system.

Different methods of delamination detection such as Chain Drag, Hammer Sounding, Half-Cell Corrosion Potential, Impact Echo, Infrared Thermography and GPR have been used through the years to assess the conditions of reinforced concrete bridge decks. All of them have potentials and limitations. However, most of the transportation agencies are primary concerned by the speed of data collection. GPR can be performed at highway speed, while the rest of the methods mentioned require lane closures or at most slow-moving mobile lane closures. GPR has become a means of locating areas of delamination on bridge decks with asphalt overlays, bridge decks overlaid with Portland cement concrete, and decks without an overlay. Data gathered is processed and interpreted by certified engineers, and translated into scaled plan view drawing showing deck delaminations. A report is prepared and describes the work completed, the techniques and equipment used, the results obtained (including schematic layouts) and interpretation of the results based upon GPR. The total area of the deficiencies as square footage and percentage is also calculated.

Rii, a national leader in detecting subsurface conditions, has extensive experience conducting GPR surveys in general, and bridge deck GPR surveys in particular. Rii's NDT Team understood very early that the preferred method for identifying regions where deck deterioration is taking place, and using that information to guide evaluation, is GPR. The Team has used GPR for more than ten years and has acquired a strong experience in interpretation of the data and the problems that may arise when working with this type of systems. Since 2002, Rii has surveyed more than 15 million square feet in bridge decks including bridges such as the Santa Monica Viaduct, the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, the Vincent Thomas Bridge, the Harry Nice bridge and the Brent Spence bridge, to name a few. Rii has recently completed subsurface investigations for 33 bridge decks in Ohios northwest region. As part of the GPR data collection, visual inspection data, augmented with high resolution video, were collected to allow for subsequent mapping of deck surface and floor conditions.

Woman claims assisted living facility never properly cleaned mold from mother’s apartment

    - January 9, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

An Atlanta woman says an assisted living facility did not properly treat the mold growing in her elderly mother's apartment.

She believes exposure to that mold negatively impacted her mother's health.

Channel 2's Kerry Kavanaugh spoke to the woman and to the facility, which says it is not to blame.

"There was absolutely no concern for the quality of the environment my mother was provided," Doris Parker told Kavanaugh. "I was quite alarmed. I reported it immediately."

Parker believes her 96-year-old mother spent her final weeks living with dangerous mold.

Esta Lipsky was a resident at the Cohen Home, an assisted living facility in Alpharetta.

Parker says she first noticed mold growing in her mother's bathroom early last summer.

"It was a dark blackish color and it was occupying a corner of the wall," Parker said.

Parker says the home acknowledged a leak coming from the above unit. But, she says her mother waited weeks for the fix.

"I assumed the mold was going to be dealt with in a proper manner," Parker said.

New members begin terms on Norton Council

    - January 9, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    1/9/2014 - West Side Leader

But the four men said they are ready to serve and face the challenges that come from their new roles. Rick Rodgers (Ward 1), Danny Grether (Ward 2), Dennis Pierson (Ward 3) and Paul Tousley (Ward 4) were sworn in at the Jan. 2 organizational meeting after winning in the Nov. 5 General Election. They joined at-large members Scott Pelot, Dennis McGlone and Charlotte Whipkey on Council.

Rodgers, 67, the new Ward 1 Councilman who was elected president at the Jan. 2 meeting, is a retired member of the Akron Fire Department as well as his own home improvement business.

In the election, he defeated Ted Weinsheimer with 64 percent of the vote. Incumbent Todd Bergstrom did not run for re-election.

Rodgers said he wanted to bring new leadership to Council.

After going to some meetings and seeing how things were going, I thought we needed some changes, he said. I hope I can make some changes for the better.

Since the election, Rodgers has been studying the citys charter and budget, as well as the citys plans to install sewers in the Nash Heights neighborhood due to Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandates to address failing septic systems.

Ive really spent a lot of time on the sewer issue, he said. I know we have an agreement with the EPA at this point, but Im seeking out a less costly remedy for the problem.

Hes also concerned with the state of the citys roads, costs for the citys fire and police departments and the issue of vacant homes.

Rodgers said he knows most of the new Council members. He added he believes the new members will not hesitate to jump in and start working immediately.

Country Porches | Wrap Around Porches | Farm House

    - January 9, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Also Called Wrap Around or Farm House Porches Country porches are so popular that restaurants use them for branding like Cracker Barrel who lines them with plenty of rocking chairs. And who doesn't take a second look when driving past one on a country road (or highway for that matter). Mary and I love country porches.

Country style porches vary but all have one main characteristic - they are built for comfort!

Nostalgic in nature, music groups are named after them like The Front Porch Country Band and even songs are written about them like "My Front Porch Looking In" or "Sittin On The Front Porch Swing".

Note how the owners jazzed this porch by painting the front door a vivid red along with the red glider. Sometimes a little can do a lot! This decorating scheme can help to visually segment a large wrap around porch.

Country-style porches bring back nice memories to me. I clearly remember as a kid, sitting on my Grandma's porch swing in Fremont, Ohio. We'd talk for hours and still today, Dave and I love a big country porch!

A country style porch conjures up images of comfortable furniture like porch swings, porch rockers, and sipping lemonade with an old dog sleeping by your side.

Mary and I love the look of open porches. Open porches allow a complete view of the surrounding area and are usually easily accessible. They generally have wide stairways and only a few steps.

To avoid needing railings (balustrade) your porch floor usually must not exceed 36 inches from the ground. (Check with your local building codes department for your area's specific height requirement).

Historically, open porches were popular in the late 1800s and were designed for social interaction, conducting business, and avoiding the heat. Open porches are easily decorated and furnished and add immense curb appeal to your home.

We love the simplicity of this country setting. Decorations and furnishings can range from the very simple like the table and chairs above to the sophisticated with bistro tables and outdoor chandeliers.

Neighbors of Cedar Grove church continue fight against expansion

    - January 9, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Some Cedar Grove residents have pushed back in their latest efforts to curb a church expansion on Woodstone Drive.

    ADAM ANIK/STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER

The St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church campus includes three buildings, two on the east side of Woodstone Drive, and one on the west side.

Officials at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church want to expand its parking lot and facility to meet growing demand. But neighbors opposed to the expansion say they fear what rock blasting, the removal of trees and the increase of traffic might do to the neighborhood. Last month, at least five people wrote to a state agency currently reviewing the plan.

Marie Mead said she hand delivered a letter to 44 units in her Highpoint neighborhood, which borders the church, urging residents to write comments to the state Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), which is reviewing a request to waive its own designation as wetlands. The opponents wrote in time for a public comment period, which ended on Dec. 20, 2013, she said.

"We wanted them to express in their own words what it would mean to them," she said.

The proposal was in front of the local zoning board of adjustment, but was designated by the NJDEP as environmentally sensitive in late 2012. The church has since applied to the NJDEP for a waiver. Mead said she hopes the NJDEP denies the construction permit and argued that the church should find a more reasonable place to expand.

Mead said some of the blasting proposed as part of the plan could damage her basement, which is tied into the First Mountain bedrock. She said water coming from the mountain fills up the parking lot and occasionally, the basement, a situation that could be worsened by removing trees and adding pavement.

"Where do they think this water is going to go? They talk about swales and digging but that necessitates blasting to put these drains in," she said. Also, she added, the amount of traffic would make Bradford Road even more treacherous for drivers.

Church attorney Michael Piromalli was not available for comment.
