Samsung Senior Vice President Kevin Dexter unveils the new Samsung 9000 series washer and dryer at the Consumer Electronics Show on Jan. 6, 2014, in Las Vegas.
Ever left your crockpot on after leaving the house and wished you could turn it off with your mobile phone? Do you want a phone-activated lock for your front door in case you lose your keys? The Consumer Electronics Show this week in Las Vegas premiered devices like these showing the potential for WiFi-connected housewares, but also the growing privacy concerns of the Internet of things ecosystem.
Cisco Systems predicts there will be 50 billion devices connected to the Internet by 2020.
Samsung unveiled its Smart Phone mobile application, which will turn a phone into a remote to change settings on Samsung TVs, washing machines, computers and air conditioners.

Belkin unveiled a new line of devices using its WeMo system that connects devices to a mobile application. The Belkin WeMo lighting system allows users to dim the lights from anywhere, and the WeMo crockpot connects with an application to send reminders, allow users to adjust cooking time, temperature or check the status of a meal.
Apple is also working with manufacturers to connect more devices to iOS applications through its MFi program. The Tianzun air conditioner built by Haier is the first such appliance to be certified through that MFi program.
The Smart Lock built by Goji gives users remote control security for their home, turning the phone into a house key, showing pictures of people at the door and giving guests the power to enter the door at certain times of the day.

The increased power of WiFi connections creates opportunity but also responsibility for tech companies looking to create new smart devices, to do so with security and privacy in mind, said Federal Trade Commissioner Maureen Ohlhausen during a speech on Wednesday at CES.

With the return of the No. 3 and two new drivers in the fold, this offseason has been anything but mundane for Richard Childress Racing.
If there was a word to describe Richard Childress Racing's offseason it would be "change." This offseason has been one of dramatic turnover for the organization, with two high-profile additions and the loss of two mainstays in drivers Kevin Harvick and Jeff Burton. Although all of the changes may not initially have the desired effect, RCR should be better positioned long-term to finally win its seventh NASCAR Cup championship.
As of late, the typical season for RCR involves Harvick excelling while Burton and Paul Menard languish in mediocrity. That was the case again in 2013. Harvick won four times and finished third in points--the third time he's done so in the last four years--while Menard and Burton each went winless and placed 17th and 20th, respectively.
Austin Dillon (No. 3 Dow Chemical/Cheerios Chevrolet); Paul Menard (No. 27 Menards Chevrolet); Ryan Newman (No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet)
A relationship that ebbed and flowed between elation and frustration is officially over after 13 seasons. Harvick has moved over to Stewart-Haas Racing, while Richard Childress has appointed his grandson, Austin Dillon, as Harvick's replacement. Dillon will drive the rebranded No. 3 car, which makes its return to Cup competition 13 years following the death of Dale Earnhardt in a last-lap crash at Daytona.
The organization also says goodbye to Jeff Burton. The veteran, who brought leadership and stability to RCR when he joined in mid-2004, will be missed, but the reality is he hadn't won a race in five years and the team needed more production. His seat in the No. 31 car will be filled by Ryan Newman, who has victories in five of the last six seasons along with a trio of Chase berths.
The restitution of the No. 3 comes with much scrutiny, and will put Dillon under the microscope. But the glare of the spotlight and the pressure of having the iconic number on the side of his car is something the 23-year-old is accustomed to, having used No. 3 in both Nationwide and Truck Series competition.
Often lost in the hubbub of seeing the No. 3 back on the track is that the man driving the car is a Sprint Cup rookie. As is typical for rookies, Dillon will have his share of ups and downs in 2014, with likely more lows than highs. Significantly helping matters, however, is the group his grandfather has surrounded him with. The core of the former No. 29 team remains intact, led by crew chief Gil Martin.
Martin has proved to be one of the more underrated pit bosses in the garage. In the past four seasons he has led Harvick to 12 victories and three third-place points finishes, and his calm demeanor should pair well with a driver who at times can get excitable behind the wheel.

Review 1 for Carpet Installation
PostedOctober 30, 2013
Overall rating
1.0 out of 5.0
Customer service
1.0 out of 5.0
No, I do not recommend this product.
My carpet has been installed and now my door will not close. When the measurements were done prior to installation, they should have let me know that this could have been a potential problem and provided me with options. They are after all the experts. When the door was installed, opening and closing door became too difficult and i later had to remove door. I asked if they could give me options or alternatives on how to fix this problem or alter door, but none were provided.
Response from Home DepotByRobert G,Customer Care,October 31, 2013
We apologize for the inconvenience and lack of follow up. We will notify the stores leadership of your concerns and have someone follow up with you. Thank you for your patience.

Carpet Installation Cost | Free Carpet Installation?
2011 Alan Fletcher - Carpet Expert and Consumer Advocate
Beware of Carpet Installation Specials!
Looking to have new carpet installed? Everyone wants to know how much it costs to have carpet installed, probably because Home Depot and Lowe's are offering $37 carpet installation specials. The latest TV ad I saw now offers FREE carpet installation if you buy a special brand of carpet AND padding. Guess how much they are charging for the carpet and pad, a lot more than you ought to be paying! Learn more about buying carpet from home improvement stores.
In my professional opinion, you can't afford to go with a special cut-rate on your carpet installation. Done improperly, you could lose half of your new carpet life span! If you are looking to find out how much it REALLY costs to install new carpet I have all the answers you need.
In different parts of the country, (The USA) the price of carpet installation may be higher or lower depending on the supply and demand. In our current down economy, there are a lot more hungry carpet installers out there looking for work. This is good news for those consumers who have money to spend on home renovations and are willing to do a little legwork to find a qualified carpet installer and negotiate a good deal. I bet you can negotiate as much as 30% off their normal carpet installation charge, especially if you are willing to pay them in cash at the end of the day.
Buyer beware: print out my free carpet installation checklist. You want to be sure your carpet is installed right the first time!
Qualified Installation
The main thing you want to be sure of, is that the carpet installers use a power-stretcher to install your carpet. Gone are the days where a simple knee-kicker will do the trick unless youre installing cheap carpet in a very small room on a very hot day. Carpet needs to be stretched in tight, and the only way to insure this is to use a power-stretcher. If they dont use a powerstretcher, then find an installer that does! Otherwise you might void your warranty!

Carpet Installers are like most general contractors. There are good carpet installers, bad carpet installers, and those who call themselves carpet installers but in reality only know the basics of how to cut, seam, and lay carpet into a room. One of the best places to find a good carpet installer is through recommendation from friends and family who have used their services in the past.
You can also find Certified Carpet Installers at CFI Installers No matter where you find an installer, you still want to do your due diligence in checking their references, and hopefully seeing pictures of some of their work.
Installing carpet is not as easy as it appears. There are many types of backing materials that require different types of seaming tapes. There are also special techniques and tools used to cut different types of carpet. Perhaps one of the most difficult things to determine when looking for a good carpet installer is whether or not he is going to show up on time, and take the time and care to do your carpet installation in a professional manner. Everyone has had a contractor in the past who seemed like a good guy, but when it came down to it, he just didn't live up to your expectations.
Here are a few things to look for to help you find the best carpet installer for your carpet installation. First, talk to them on the phone. A good installer should be easy to reach, or return your phone call in a timely fashion. Second, when he arrives at your home to provide you with an estimate, go look in his vehicle. A carpet installer that takes care of his equipment, will more than likely take care of your home. A carpet installer who keeps empty cans, bottles, and just plain rubish mixed in with his tools is probably not the best installer in the business. Generally, sloppy is as sloppy does.
A good carpet installer will provide you with a written estimate including the amount of material you need to order, as well as an itemized list of charges such as stairs, thresholds, removal and disposal of old flooring, floor preperation, etc. If he offers padding with his installation be sure to get a sample of the exact pad he will provide. It is not uncommon for there to be some fudging on the pad. Would you know the difference between a 5lb, 6lb, or 8lb pad? Don't take their word for it. Get a sample.

These Certified Installers EARN their certification through dedication, testing, and investment of time and money.
CFI offers instructional classes and seminars as well as testing days nationwide on a regular basis. They are the largest organization of flooring installers in the country, and they take great pride in perfection of their craft.

Many LED companies only use 2-3 of the primary colors needed for photosynthesis and plant growth. Plants that are not receiving their complete lighting spectrum needs can become leggy and produce only wispy flowers. In addition, many of the cheap LED brands in the marketplace are running with low diode wattages and lessor driving currents, making them an inferior option when compared with premium LED grow lights.
The main feature of the K3 KIND LED grow light is the 12 per diode panel band perfect spectrum that encompasses the most plant-friendly Photosynthetic Active Radiation (PAR) wavelengths that plants are most likely to use during photosynthesis. A key point about the the KIND K3 12 Band Perfect Spectrum spectral bands is that they almost exclusively reside between 440-480 on the blue side of the electromagnetic spectrum and between 620-680 on the red side of the spectrum. The KIND LED K3 mainly focuses intensity in these zones of the overall spectral range because the peak photosynthesis during the vegetative phase occurs in the blue range and peak photosynthesis during the flowering phase occurs in the red side. In addition, the KIND K3 LED perfect spectrum offers coverage in the 510-610 green light range as plants readily use 80-90% of green light which is absorbed deeply by carotenoids which encourages leaf thickening and bud production. Another reason why inferior LED grow lights are being overtaken by premium led grow lights is photosynthetic penetration. Premium LED grow lights like The KIND LED K3 series possess a revolutionary Secondary Optical Lens for maximum photosynthetic penetration from plant top to base, considerably increasing under canopy production and yield. Its important to harvest as much per plant as possible in the time constraint placed upon the grow cycle. The Secondary Optical Lens of the K3 series enables the indoor gardener to reap as much from the plant as possible per harvest.
