Its finally here. No. 1 Florida State is set to clash with No. 2 Auburn in Mondays BCS championship game, a matchup that pits a dominating Seminoles squad against a Tigers team that has mounted an improbable one-year turnaround from SEC doormat to conference champions.
The Xs and Os have been dissected for a month now, but what are the under-the-radar keys for each team? Martin Rickman and Zac Ellis provide five X-factors for Florida State and Auburn heading into the game in Pasadena.
1. Jeremy Pruitt and the Florida State defense: Entering the season, it wouldve been crazy to suggest that the Seminoles defense would somehow be better than last years unit. Seven defensive starters were selected in the 2013 NFL draft, and Florida State brought in a new defensive coordinator in Pruitt. The groups success this year is a testament to Pruitts philosophy, which helped the Noles become the nations best defense (according to Football Outsiders S&P+ ratings). The brilliance of Pruitts schemes are in their simplicity. As defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. told SI.com before the the Seminoles 41-14 win over Miami on Nov. 2, He just lets us go and be ball players.
THAMEL: Auburns Lashlees path from running magazine to Tigers offense
2. Nick OLeary: Lets get it out of the way now. Yes, OLeary is Jack Nicklaus grandson, and you should probably already know this if youve watched or read anything about college football this year. Youll certainly hear about it at least once during the broadcast. And yes, OLeary survived a crazy motorcycle wreck, of which Tomahawk Nation has the video. Whats more important to the game on Monday night, however, is OLearys role in Florida States offense. The tight end has been a safety valve for quarterback Jameis Winston all season, and with defenses keying in on the rest of the Seminoles stars, OLeary (33 catches, 557 yards, seven touchdowns) has had his chances to make plays like this:
STAPLES: Florida States receiving corps pose matchup nightmare
3. Sod Cemetery: If the Seminoles beat Auburn, theyll earn the BCS trophy and crystal makes for a nice centerpiece. But Florida State will also be able to bury another incredibly important piece of turf in its Sod Cemetery. For more than 50 years (since 1962, to be exact), the Seminoles have been bringing back some sod from big road victories. This includes turf from games in which they were underdogs, as well as from conference championship games and bowl games. Grass is grass is grass, but sod from Pasadena would be pretty special.
4. Florida State Twitter: The backbone of any successful program lies in its fan base, and its hard to find a more lively and productive group than the Seminoles supporters on everyones favorite 140-character soapbox. Florida State Twitter is a living, breathing entity drunk on recruiting stars and advanced metrics. No other bunch has taken as fervently to the #goacc hashtag that I sired (and continue to love like my own child). Although the hive mentality can get nasty at times, there are some truly great people out there. This has to be good for a point or two in the spread, right?

Additional homeless shelters opened their doors overnight on Monday due to freezing temperatures in the metropolitan area.
At "The Opportunity Center" in Jackson - which is typically a daytime assistance center - a Salvation Army Food Truck made a stop to make sure people were being fed.
The center has about 700 people on its rolls but coordinators did not expect that many people to show up. They're capacity might actually be closer to 70 people, one coordinator said.
"But it's all about just really getting to know these folks. These folks are just like us and have issues and problems just like us. They're just in different circumstances," Christie Burnett, director of the Opportunity Center, said.
"The problem is, with the bitter cold tonight, within 30 minutes you could begin to experience frostbite. Even with clothes and even with shoes and with socks you can begin to get frostbite. Some of the folks that sleep outside or under the bridges or under the gazebos or things like that - they don't have the proper insulation," Capt. Ken Chapman with Jackson Salvation Army said.
"And many of them are mentally ill and don't even know how to take care of themselves," Chapman said.
Copiah County homeless shelters also opened on Monday night.
In Jackson, homeless shelter coordinators say they're also expecting to open their doors again tomorrow as temperature may be below freezing.

Useful, though lightly raced, over hurdles, David Pipe's charge transferred his promising work on the schooling ground with a superb round of jumping as he disposed of the opposition in convincing manner.
Owned by Dai Walters and James and Jean Potter, whose colours were also carried to victory by Mountainous in the Coral Welsh Grand National, Edmund Kean (3-1) galloped on resolutely to defeat Whats Happening by two and a half lengths.
"I schooled him earlier in the week and I always thought whatever he did over hurdles was a bonus because he's always jumped fences very well at home," said Scudamore.
"He was good all the way round, and certainly was over the last four fences. He showed a willing attitude after that as well.
"He handles soft ground and he's got a bit of class as well, so I wouldn't be afraid of running him on better ground. He's a nice prospect.
"The owners have had a good couple of weeks, so it's nice to keep the ball rolling for them."
Massena had to work hard to overcome Un Anjou and justify even-money favouritism in the Groby Novices' Handicap Chase.
Un Anjou landed with a narrow lead after the last but Massena found reserves for Aidan Coleman and got back up to score by three-quarters of a length.
"Jumping the first two or three fences it looked like he was jumping the puissance wall at Wembley," said trainer Venetia Williams, who also owns the seven-year-old.

DANIA BEACH
The gradual process of bringing down a hotel and parking garage next to a busy highway and airport began Tuesday with the swift yank of a palm tree.
A demolition crew braved the chilly temperature early Tuesday morning and began clearing the way for the new runway expansion project at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
The old Airport Hilton, built in the mid-80s, is located smack dab in an area that will serve as a protection zone for the "worst-case scenario involving an aircraft," officials said.
Once completed, the area being worked on will feature a large field of grass that runs along the runway and three towers operated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
"Today is a symbol of what's to come as we make way for the expansion," said Broward County Aviation spokesman Greg Meyer.
Using the steel jaws of an excavator, crews with The BG Group LLC began their work on Tuesday by leveling the trees and shrubbery before moving on to the two-story parking garage located just north of the hotel.
Despite the demolition, guests are still being welcomed at the hotel until April. That's when crews will train their earth-moving machinery on the eight-story hotel that is prominently visible from the highway.
Until the hotel demolition begins, officials are leaving an abandoned two-story building between the hotel and the garage to serve as a noise buffer for guests.
Sitting outside on a bench along the driveway while having a smoke, business traveler Diane Simpson, of Jackson, Tenn., said she barely noticed the activity nearby.

There were a few mutters of ''about time'' from onlookers as an excavator took a day yesterday to demolish two historic Dunedin buildings that had stood partially collapsed in Rattray St for three years.
Consent to demolish the buildings was given a few months after the roof of the 138-year-old Barrons Building collapsed in January 2011, but demolition was delayed until yesterday, although the reason for the delay is unclear.
Barrons Building owner Lincoln Darling has previously declined to explain the delay, and when asked last month about a road closure notice in place for yesterday, said the building was coming down in February.
Starting the most visible part of the demolition just after 10am, a specialised high-reach demolition tracked excavator had brought the Barrons Building and its neighbour the N. and E. S. Patterson Building to the ground before noon.
Lund South had originally been involved in the demolition, but it was a Christchurch company, Southern Demolition, which finally carried out what business owner Alan Edge described as a ''very tricky'' operation, given the buildings' fragile states and their proximity to other buildings.
The excavator was brought from the Carisbrook site and would return there for work on demolishing the corporate stand, Mr Edge said.
The Rattray St site is to become an extension of the car park behind it.

Sandy Springs took another step toward creating a new downtown Monday when it began demolishing an old department store.
The former Target store off Roswell Road is at the heart of Sandy Springs proposed city center, which would include a mix of office, retail and residential development, plus a new City Hall and other features.
City Communications Director Sharon Kraun said the demolition is expected to take up to six weeks.
The demolition is the latest milestone for Sandy Springs, a north Fulton County city of nearly 100,000 people. City residents fought for decades to incorporate so they could control zoning and quality of life in the community.
Since winning that battle and incorporating eight years ago, Sandy Springs has fought to create a distinct identity out of its mix of expensive homes, apartments, office parks and strip malls. Supporters say the $100 million plan to redevelop Roswell Road and create a new downtown will be a key element of Sandy Springs identity.
The plan would create a walkable city center complete with commercial, retail, recreational and cultural facilities. The city has spent millions of dollars in recent years to buy property for the project, including $8 million for the former Target.
Kraun said there is no specific timetable to finish the project. She said Sandy Springs is still in the process of choosing a master developer to help with the city center.

LIVINGSTON The demolition of the historic Court Theater will be postponed a week because of a setback with required equipment, according to city leaders.
The demolition, set to begin today, will begin Jan. 14, said Livingston City Manager Jose Ramirez.
Ramirez said the demolition company is waiting for the arrival of some equipment, which could take another week.
The City Council last year voted to enter into a demolition agreement with Jim Brisco Enterprises Inc., a Merced-based general contractor.
The landmark theater was built in 1945, but the building has been vacant since it closed in 1977, officials said. The city bought it in 2001 for $120,000 and once planned to restore the building.
Livingston Mayor Pro Tem Gurpal Samra was a councilman when the city bought the theater and said he was a strong supporter of renovating it, but realized three years ago it would no longer be possible.
Repairs were estimated at $6 million to $7 million and Livingston faces a $150,000 shortfall in its proposed budget.
Its a really sad thing to see it go, said Samra, who has lived in Livingston since 1970. But unfortunately, when youre laying people off and putting them on furlough you have to make some decisions. Whats better for the city in the long run? Id rather see public safety and parks be given first priority.
City officials took steps last week to save a few of the theaters iconic features the marquee, the sign and the ticket booth.
The demolition will take about a week, using a large excavator to knock down the theater piece by piece. The empty downtown site will then be filled with soil.

Neighbors rejoiced Monday as a demolition crew the town hired started tearing down a vacant house that had partially collapsed onto a neighboring home.
Building Commissioner Michael Tusino said the family that owns the home at 1 Newton Park Road abandoned it and has refused to take responsibility. The town even tried unsuccessfully to get a court order in recent months for the owners to step up.
The owner of record told the magistrate he didnt own it, "and everybody was kind of pointing the finger my cousin owns it, my sister owns it, my brother owns it," Tusino said.
"Once it started collapsing, it became a public safety issue," Tusino said.
At that point, the town stepped in and hired the demolition crew, he said.
The job is complicated by the fact the home is wedged tightly between two other houses. With no access to the backyard, the crew from Maximum Emergency Services planned to take the house down by hand, from the roof down.
Workers used saws and ripped away pieces of the home by hand on Monday, carrying debris to Dumpsters and using shovels to toss out loads of junk.
Bernard Le Blanc, who lives next door, said the house partially collapsed against his during the snowstorm. He is waiting for a damage estimate from his insurance company, but was glad to see demolition crews.
"Its going to be done finally thank God," said Le Blanc, who moved into the neighborhood in 1980.
The eyesore next door had been empty for at least 15 years before that, he said.
