A Tasman community has built a house that will be sold to raise money for a new family health centre.
Locals donated their time, money and services to build the house, which will go to auction next month.
For 18 months Golden Bay locals have been trying to raise $1 million by busking, holding dinners and auctions and by building a house.
"The fantastic thing about this project is that it will actually bring us to the completion of our fundraising activities," says health centre trustee Linda Sanders.
It's a grand way to finish and the house is expected to fetch at least $400,000.
"To get to a target like that we really needed to have something more significant to bring in these sorts of funds," says fundraising group chairman Matthew Toynbee.
And it was a real community effort.
"All of the contributions come from the donation of time and a lot of products that people have given," says Ms Sanders.
The result was a four-bedroom house in the Bay's prime holiday location, Pohara.
"There's an awful lot of people who have put some tremendous effort in here, right from the electrician to the concrete layers," says fundraising committee member Nick Hodgkinson.

Community effort raises money for health centre
The closure of Lawnfield Road for construction since May 30 has been extended through next March because unusually cold weather prevented paving this fall, county officials said.
A December completion date had been expected on this portion of the project that aims to ease traffic congestion and strengthen the Clackamas County jobs climate with the first new state road in the Portland area in more than 30 years.
Officials broke ground in July on the $118 million Sunrise Jobs and Transportation Act Project, which received $100 million from the 2009 Oregon Legislature to upgrade the states transportation system.
Lawnfield Road has been a closely watched portion of the project because a contingent of industrial business owners in the area had sued to prevent the closure of a railroad crossing as a key part of the effort to build a new highway between Highway 224 and 162nd Avenue. Another legislative bill this year and lower-than-expected bids ensured that the Tolbert Overpass would be built as the Sunrise Corridor project became a reality.
The closure, at the east end of Lawnfield Road from 97th Avenue to 98th Court, will continue 24 hours a day. If weather allows, Clackamas County plans to reopen the road in January.
Paving of Lawnfield Roads two layers of asphalt could occur over two days of dry 40-degree weather, and county officials had hoped to do those steps Dec. 26 and 27. But last weeks cold snap didnt cooperate, and now theyre looking to other opportunities to lay down those asphalt layers. Once that happens, about three more weeks of decent weather would be needed to install concrete barriers and reopen the road.
It is harder and harder to get the weather we need as we get further into winter, said County Project Manager Terry Mungenast. It looks like our next best opportunity will be Monday. Hopefully well get some warmer temperatures!
But Lawnfield Roads intersections with 97th Avenue and 98th Court will remain open throughout construction. And emergency vehicles continue to have 24-hour access to both driveways at the Lawnfield Garden Condominiums via 97th Avenue to the north driveway and via Lawnfield to the south driveway.
If the road can reopen in the next couple of months, county officials then plan to close the road again briefly for one or two days in the spring for final paving and cleanup work. In early spring, temperatures would need to be 50 degrees or above to stripe the road and complete this phase of the project.
The construction project includes roadway reconstruction and widening, bike lanes, sidewalks, stormwater drainage and a detention pond, street lighting and new traffic signals at the Lawnfield Road/97th Avenue intersection.

Two more old Bourne homes face the wrecking ball.
The first house is at Shore Road just below Trading Post Corners, Bourne village. It is known as The Rev. Herman Perry House. Its days are numbered. A demolition permit has been secured.
The second structure sits hard by 270 Scraggy Neck Road, Cataumet, along the approach to the causeway. Built in 1890 and assessed at $785,400, it too is on the way out.
The Bourne Historical Commission, reluctantly but unanimously, voted to approve demolition requests for both homesteads.
The Perry house dates to the early 19th century and once served as a parsonage for the Bourne Methodist Church, nearby at Sandwich Road.
Lynne C. Smith of Hingham owns the Cataumet house. It has served the family for generations as a summer place.
The historical commission conducted in-depth hearings into both requests. It finds itself caught by its charge to act on the side of preservation while listening to persuasive arguments that historic old homes all too often have fallen into such disrepair that they would be far too costly to repair.
The commission has a certain reach in such matters; then a form of dissatisfaction sets in, bordered by uncertainty as to the limits of preservation work. In the end, the respect for the past is trumped by the cost of the future. And commission members past and present agree that Bourne has an extraordinary diversity of architectural styles worthy of protection.
The plan at 270 Scraggy Neck Road is to raze the house and build a new energy-compliant home. The commission was told last week it would cost $350,000 to otherwise restore the structure and make it livable year-round. Beyond that, the house is too big and too tall to move from the lot.
The plan at Shore Road is to raze the Perry house and sell the tract on the south side of the roadway; in order to clear an estate through probate.
