Promising another boost to the Clark County economy, fast-growing financial firm Fisher Investments is developing more office space in Camas, with a second five-story building now under construction.
The campus has grown by more than 155 new employees since May, bringing the total Camas workforce to 650 people, said Ken Fisher, founder and chief executive officer, by email this month. Business is on the upswing for the Woodside, Calif.-based firm, which manages $52 billion in assets, up from $49 billion seven months ago.
"We continue to grow, expand and do our best to improve what we do and innovate for the future," said Fisher, a 63-year-old Forbes columnist, author of best-selling financial books and billionaire.
He said Fisher Investments employs a total of 1,600 people.
Fisher has invested about $47 million in developing the Camas campus, north of Pacific Rim Boulevard and east of Southeast 192nd Avenue. It's first five-story office structure opened in 2011, followed by a one-story building that houses the company's processing operations and printing equipment. Each five-story structure will accommodate up to 700 employees. That could put the majority of the Fisher Investment's workforce in Camas as the new office building comes online.
But Fisher refused to speculate on the expected completion date for the new building because construction projects are subject to too many variables, he explained.
"I'm not going to hang myself on a date of when the project will be complete, but we're moving ahead full speed," Fisher said.
He isn't ready to call the Camas campus the company's headquarters, either, said Fisher. His firm's northward migration began with an east Vancouver satellite office for 50 employees in 2006. At the time, Fisher said Clark County offered advantages, such as lower-priced housing for his employees and a friendlier business climate.
That is still the case, Fisher said. He also was impressed by the Camas School District's recent annual report.

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- Malaysia's construction industry is expected to be busy next year, driven by both private and government projects, particularly the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).
Under the National Key Economic Areas (NKEA) listed in the ETP, the country saw the launch of 195 projects over the past three years, bringing in a total committed investment of RM220 billion.
The projects are expected to contribute RM144 billion to gross national income and create 435,000 new jobs.
Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB Malaysia) Chief Executive, Datuk Seri Judin Abdul Karim, said the construction industry was expected to secure a total of RM115 billion worth projects in 2014.
Last year, the total projects secured were worth RM120 billion, which surpassed the expected RM95 billion, Judin said.
"The construction industry did very well this year to grow by 18 per cent compared with last year despite the gloomy global economy," he said.
Judin said the current trend was forecast to continue next year with the anticipation of continuous economic stability.
"We expect the bulk of next year's projects to come from non-residential construction projects.
"The industry would also see more private sector projects compared to government-owned," he told Bernama.

The state building inspector issued a stop work order Friday, Dec. 20, at the Billerica House of Correction due to structural concerns.
According to Alex Zaroulis, spokeswoman for the state Executive Office of Administration and Finance, the state building inspector was called to the House of Correction at the request of the Department of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM), the state agency overseeing the expansion project.
"DCAMM called the state building inspector because they noticed that a column had fractures in it as they were working on it," said Zaroulis. "In an abundance of caution, they wanted to make sure there was not going to be any structural issues."
As a result of Friday's inspection, a stop work order was issued until the structural integrity of the building can be fixed.
"We will continue to examine it over the next couple of days," Zaroulis added. "There will be activity up there as they work to make sure things are secure."
DCAMM will continue to cooperate with the state building inspector, Zaroulis said.
"They will be working on it tomorrow to shore up any potential further fracturing as they continue to work with the state building inspector," she said. "Safety is our main concern."
The state has embarked on a $37 million expansion of the Billerica House of Correction that includes the construction of two new buildings, adding 496 beds to the facility. Detainees from the Cambridge Jail will be moved to Billerica as the Cambridge Jail will be closing. Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian hopes the move will be temporary as the state finds another suitable site to construct a Middlesex County jail complex in southern Middlesex County.
Zaroulis could not confirm what portion of the buildings was identified as having fractures.
"This will hopefully just be a small stop," she said.

Venetian Builders, Inc., Miami, has used French-style patio doors to solve multiple issues faced by all homeowners who expand their homes with aluminum sunrooms, said Chris Noe, Venetian president.
Venetian Builders designs and installs Florida rooms, patio covers and screen pool enclosures in all South Florida communities, including West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Deerfield Beach, Hialeah, Wellington and the Keys.
Think about the decisions regarding windows and doors that homeowners must make before having an aluminum sunroom addition built, Noe said.
Theyve got to determine just how bright they want the room to be, and that usually determines how many and how big windows must be, Noe said. Then theres the issue of access. Sometimes a single door just wont handle the traffic, especially if the room will be used for entertaining and guests will be wandering in and out.
Sometimes the best answer isnt a window, but a door, Noe says. Or more correctly, several doors, Noe said.
Venetian has used French-style patio doors, in either sliding or hinged styles, to build glass walls on Florida rooms, Noe said.
Double-wide and even triple-wide doors sometimes even more than one set have achieved several functions on a sun room, Noe said:
Ample light: A French-style patio door has nearly floor-to-ceiling glass, Noe said. Double that or triple it and you have a bright and cheerful room. Solid doors might as well be solid walls, in terms of light. Theyll just make the room darker.
Enhanced views: All that glass provides an almost uninterrupted view from inside the room, Noe said. Glass doors can give you a good view of the garden, of guests or of children playing on a deck or in the yard. To reduce light, just add drapes or blinds that can be drawn shut, Noe said.
