When the siding on your mobile home is getting old, discolored or has fallen off, replace it with new siding. The process is similar to replacing siding on a regular house. Several types of replacement material are available, such as vinyl. Your first task is to determine the type and color of siding you want.
Remove the existing siding from the exterior of the mobile home with a pry bar. Insert the pry bar under the siding and pry out to separate the nails from the exterior walls. Start at the bottom and work your way toward the top.
Pull out nails that do not come out easily with a nail puller and a hammer.
Measure the length of the exterior walls with a tape measure. Transfer the measurements to the vinyl siding and starter strip. Mark where they will be cut with a felt tip marker.
Cut the vinyl siding and starter strip on the marks with a circular saw.
Measure up from the bottom of the first exterior wall the width of the vinyl siding and subtract inch. Place a nail into the lower corner of the wall at the measurement.
Attach a chalk line to the nail and go to the other end of the wall. Pull the chalk line taut and place a level on the line. Snap the chalk line on the wall where level is indicated. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the other exterior walls.

Many recreational vehicles are installed with aluminum siding, as aluminum is known to be durable and weather-resistant. This aluminum siding installed on recreational vehicles is the same aluminum installed on homes, so the damages are similar on both. The damages on aluminum siding usually include dents, scratches, corrosion and fading. These disfigurements can be caused by weather elements, improper maintenance or minor accidents while traveling. Fortunately, these flaws can be easily repaired with the proper tools.
Pop any dents out of the aluminum siding by first drilling a 1/8-inch hole in the center of the dent with a power drill. Attach a washer to the end of a 1-inch self-tapping screw, and then insert the screw into the drilled hole. Grab the washer with pliers and pull to remove the dent.
Repair any scratches on the siding by lightly sanding the scratched area with sandpaper. Apply a metal primer on the scratch using a paintbrush and let the area dry. Paint over the primer with an acrylic latex paint matching the color of your siding.
Remove rust and corrosion from your aluminum siding by rubbing the problem areas with steel wool. Use a paintbrush to apply metal primer over the areas to prevent further corrosion.
Remove faded areas on your aluminum siding by spraying the siding with water. If the faded areas still remain, repaint the siding with a high-quality, acrylic latex paint with a flat finish using a roller brush. Choose light- or medium-colored hues to camouflage any imperfections in the siding.

State agencies, municipal governments and private organizations provide funding for low-income residents, seniors, schools and residents to improve their energy conservation and lower their utility costs. The Texas Department of Housing & Community Affairs Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program provides funding to low-income households for the repair, retrofit and replacement of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. The purpose of the grant is to help recipients lower energy costs, meet their energy needs and educate the public about energy efficient products. CEAP is funded via the federal governments Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. As of the time of publication, applicants can apply for funding by contacting their local CEAP service provider, visiting the Help for Texans website (tdhca.state.tx.us/texans.htm), call 211 and ask for information on the program, or call (877) 399-8939.
The Air Conditioner Repair and Replacement Program sponsored by the city of Irving, Texas provides funding to residents with disabilities and senior citizens to replace or repair an inefficient air conditioner system. To apply, applicants must complete the program application form, and provide family income information and household demographics.
Schools in Texas located along the border with Mexico can apply for up to $50,000 in funding to replace air conditioning units with energy efficient models, via the Texas/Mexico Small Schools Grant Project. The project provides funding for schools to improve air quality, and enhance the quality of the classroom environment for students. To apply for funding, schools must contact the Texas State Energy Conservation Office and request grant information.
Reliant Energy in partnership with Dallas County Health and Human Services, offers the Home Weatherization Program for low-income residents. The $5,000 grant provides grant recipients with funds to make improvements in energy-efficiency, including servicing of air conditioning systems. As of the time of publication, Reliant Energy will provide 10 grants of $5,000.

The compressor may eventually need to replaced in a home air conditioning system that is often used. Usually, the outside half of a standard air conditioning system uses a refrigerant compressor. These systems are also known for their use of condensing coils. The compressor of an air conditioning system refers to the pump inside the motor. This pump is responsible for pulling heat laden refrigerant gas from the inside components of the building. Once the gas has been drawn, it is compressed. The gas transforms from a low pressure substance to a high pressured one.
The refrigerant gas which was transformed into a high pressure andhigh temperature substance will be transferred to the condensing coil. The condensing oil in turn cools the gas into a liquid state. The gas is cooled using a fan or blower inside the condensing oil. Another way to cool the gas is through theimmersion of the coil into cold water. From time to time, the compressor of the air conditioning system gets wearied down. When this happens, they often need to be replaced.
Usually, compressor replacement is something that should be professionally done. Although it is not your usual home improvement project or a mere bolt-in thing to do, it is still aprofitabletask to learn. This is a task which will be able to get completed by following the following steps.
Try to see whether or not the compressor is still capable of doing its job within the cooling system. Try to check the temperature of the air coming out from the air conditioning system.
Before buying a replacement make sure you got the model right. Usually the model type of th compressor is indicated in the manual.
Before opening the air conditioning system, you should cut off all power supply. This will help prevent any accidents from happening.

Usually, compressors come with a single bolt. This standard setup provides holding for both the low and high pressure lines. The compressor should be unbolted from this holding and the accessory bracket. The pressure lines should also be unfastened. These lines should be attached once the compressor has been replaced.
The replacement compressor should be placed within the condenser unit. Connect the lines of the refrigerant once gain. Given that the refrigerant needs replacing; other controls or the coils should be replaced as well.

Remove any old lights from the trailer. Mount the new lights supplied with the kit (using the included screws and nuts) in the brackets where the old taillights were. These lights get their ground connection through the mounting screws, so be certain to remove any rust where the nut will contact the light bracket.
Separate the white wire from the multicolored cable, leaving about 4 feet still connected. Run the remaining wires down the inside of the left side of the trailer frame. Secure in place with nylon wire ties.
Using a solderless butt connector, connect the brown wire in the cable to the brown wire of both taillights.
Connect the green wire in the cable to the red wire of the right taillight using a solderless butt connector.
Connect the yellow wire in the cable to the red wire of the left taillight using a solderless butt connector.
Cut the white wire off a few inches past where it is still joined to the other wires in the cable. Install a solderless ring terminal on the cut end, and attach the terminal to the trailer frame with a self-tapping screw. Remove the paint where the ring terminal touches the trailer frame.

Installing a new hot water heater is generally a much easier job than many homeowners think, especially if the new water heater is of the same type, gas or electric, as the previous heater. If a homeowner is switching from an electric heater to a gas heater or vice versa then electrical or gas lines may need to be installed.
Shut off the water connection to the old hot water heater. This can usually be done by simply shutting off a valve on the water line leading directly to the water heater. Shut off the gas line by turning the knob on the gas line so the knob is perpendicular to the line. Unplug the old heater if it is electrical.
Connect a hose to the drain valve at the bottom of the heater and run the hose to an outside location. Open the drain valve on the heater and allow the water to drain out.
Unscrew the water inlet fitting and the water outflow fitting on the top of your heater using your pipe wrench and your crescent wrench. It will take the use of both wrenches to unscrew the fittings. If you are removing a gas water heater you will need to use both wrenches to unscrew the fitting for the gas line as well.
Remove the flue hat on top of your tank so that the tank is no longer connected to the vent pipe.
Remove the old heater and discard properly as per codes and regulations in your area.Set the new heater in place and level it using shims if necessary. Make sure all controls on the new unit are accessible.
Wrap the threads of the water inlet and the outlet fittings on top of the tank with pipe tape and screw on the water inlet line and the outlet line to the top of your new unit using both of your wrenches. Open the water line to fill the tank. Open several water faucets in the house to allow air to bleed out of the tank as it fills with water.
