A TRUCK carrying a 40m bridge has halted traffic in the Pacific Highway after the load broke free and crashed through concrete barriers on the Mid North Coast this morning.
Details surrounding the incident are limited at this stage as police are still on the scene but the incident involved another car, believed to have crashed into the barricade not long after the truck crash near the Big Banana at Coffs Harbour.

NSW Ambulance spokesman said the driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital but was not seriously injured.
The Pacific Highway is still partially closed.
A heavy lift crane is expected to remove the wreckage by mid morning.

Truck sheds bridge near Big Banana
It was a historic week for General Motors Co. First the federal government completed its sale of shares in the Detroit icon and second a woman was named to lead the resurgent U.S. automaker.
Mary T. Barra is a 33-year veteran of GM who most recently was executive vice president of global product development.
Described by some industry observers as a "car gal," Barra helped restructure the company's product offerings after the automaker was saved by a Treasury Department bailout in 2009.
In all, the federal government pumped $49.5 billion into GM -- saving hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs at the company and parts manufacturers -- during the worst of the economic downturn. After nearly five years, Treasury sold its final block of 31.1 million shares in GM for a loss of $10.5 billion to taxpayers.
In 2009, the government owned 910 million shares. GM stock closed at $40.04 on Friday, up more than 40 percent this year.
Most economists say it was worth it. GM is healthy and making profits and the automaker now can pay dividends on its common stock and has no restrictions on compensation for executives.
"With the final sale of GM stock, this important chapter in our nation's history is now closed," U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew said.
A day after Lew's announcement, GM Chief Executive Officer Dan Akerson, 65, announced he is retiring effective Jan. 15 and would be succeeded by Barra, 51, the first female executive to head GM -- or any major auto company.
"With an amazing portfolio of cars and trucks and the strongest financial performance in our recent history, this is an exciting time at today's GM," Barra said in a statement. "I'm honored to lead the best team in the business and to keep our momentum at full speed."
Barra, a married mother of two teenagers, has been at GM since college, joining the company as an 18-year-old co-op electrical engineering student in the Pontiac division in 1980. She has managed an assembly plant and ran GM's human resources departments from 2009 until she was named global product development chief in 2011.

SPRING LAKE - Woodrow Mainor remembers leaving his septic tank uncovered overnight after he had it pumped out.
"The next morning, it was full of water," he said. "You couldn't get rid of it."
Mainor lives in Bragg Estates, an unincorporated neighborhood of 173 homes along Vass Road, north of Spring Lake.
Properties there have long struggled with failing septic systems. By 2011, the problems had forced one home to be vacated and six more systems had been declared irreparable. Four other systems were repaired, with one drain field moved to an adjoining property.
"This was a swamp," said Mainor, gesturing from his driveway on Riverside Circle. "There's nothing they can do about it."
Cumberland County plans to try. The county Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing Monday night and may vote to create a Bragg Estates Water and Sewer District. That would enable the county to seek grants and loans at low interest rates from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Clean Water State Revolving Fund to provide sewer service to the neighborhood.
"It's strictly for sewer," said Jeffery Brown, the county's director of engineering and infrastructure. Aqua, a private company, provides water to the neighborhood.
The county took a similar approach to providing water to the Southpoint neighborhood in Gray's Creek, which had been supplied by tainted wells. Lines were installed, homeowners had the chance to tap in at a reduced fee and anyone who didn't is charged a small monthly access fee.
How those fees would be structured at Bragg Estates would depend on a number of variables not yet known, including the public funding available and the amount of homeowners interested in the service. Any changes are likely years away, with the creation of the district the first step in a very long process.

Hearing set to address failing septic system at Bragg Estates
WEST LAFAYETTE -
Purdue University will decrease overall room rates and for the second consecutive year reduce board rates.
Purdue's Board of Trustees on Saturday (Dec. 14) approved a 2.5 percent reduction in the predominant room and board rates for the 2014-15 academic year. The overall average rate reduction is 0.2 percent for housing, and prices for the most popular dining plans are being cut by 5 percent, marking the second straight year that board rates have decreased by 5 percent. Tuition will remain unchanged for 2013-14 as part of a two-year freeze announced last spring.
The board also approved new discounted rates for a 12-month room and board contract, as well as rates for Purdue's Calumet and Fort Wayne campuses.
"Our pledge to students and their families is to deliver a world-class college experience - from the classroom to campus life - and to keep a Purdue education as affordable as possible," Purdue President Mitch Daniels said. "By controlling and, when feasible, cutting rates, we seek to extend the clear academic and social benefits of living on campus to as many students as possible."
Students living in residence halls are required to carry one of four meal plans, ranging from $2,998 to $5,172, and starting next fall dining dollars can be used in all Housing and Food Services retail locations. Depending on the type of campus housing students select, the price per academic year for room only, minus a required meal plan, will range from $2,574 for a room with two beds in Cary Quadrangle to $9,500 for a single-bed unit in First Street Towers. There also are options at Purdue apartment complexes where no meal plan is required.
Additionally, another housing option will be available to students with the opening of the Third Street Suites next fall on the West Lafayette campus.
Purdue also will provide a room-rate discount of about $150 for students opting for a 12-month housing contract and staying in McCutcheon Hall to continue their studies during the summer months.
"While serving a diverse student population and maintaining affordability, we're also providing an incentive for students to stay on campus during the summer to work toward their degree requirements," said James Almond, senior vice president for business services and assistant treasurer.
Purdue's on-campus residence program houses more than 11,919 students, and all campus housing is voluntary. The system is financially self-supporting, and no state funds or general student fees are used for construction, maintenance or operations.
