Michael ODonnell removed some of the junk hed spent years stockpiling in his Star Theater/Leonard Block building, but certainly not all of it.

A tour on Wednesday revealed an ample quantity of flea-market-variety items strewn about, in what years ago was the retail-store section of the 142-year-old structure. There was also evidence ODonnell or his associates had been engaged in a haphazard attempt to make serious, structural repairs.

A nonprofit created in 2002 by ODonnell bought the four-story building that year from businessman Jeffrey Antine for $154,400, according to Registry of Deeds records.

The citys law department, on behalf of the fire and building departments, had filed complaints in housing and superior courts to either force ODonnell to make significant structural repairs or hand the building over to the city.

After a nearly four-year court battle, a housing court judge opted for the latter in September, forcing the 50-year-old Roslindale native to relinquish ownership of the building to the city. The judge gave ODonnell until Dec. 2 to remove personal items from the dilapidated building.

By agreeing to the terms of the court, ODonnell avoided having to pay the city nearly $210,000 in back taxes and fees and from a costly, months-long, round-the-clock fire watch previously ordered by the fire department.

The building has three separate entrances. The middle one, at 109 Main St., is a staircase leading to the theater, which is technically located on the second floor. The 107 and 111 Main St. doors open up to what decades ago functioned as retail space.

ODonnell lost his bid to hang onto the building, in large part due to engineering reports noting the necessity for significant structural repairs and improvements. ODonnell could often be seen either by himself or with a small crew making repairs to the buildings exterior.

One of the more dramatic examples of the buildings deterioration, and ODonnells inability to keep up with repairs, can be seen on the fourth floor, directly above the Star Theater near the back-roof deck.

During the tour, Taunton Building Department Superintendent Wayne Walkden pointed out what he said was a feeble, and dangerous, improvised attempt by ODonnell to replace a rotten wooden support beam.

Get that done before winter's cold takes over to avoid serious water problems in your home

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Its a fall chore no one likes to do, but if you dont clean your gutters regularly, you could be asking for trouble. Its definitely an area you shouldnt ignore.

Chris Andrus of Amarillos Andrus Brothers Roofing says its extremely important to keep them clean. When they dont drain, he says, you can have rot damage to the wood typically behind the gutters. Thats the most common damage that we see.

And this time of the year, you have to guard against ice damming. Andrus says, The gutters tend to hold the snow right there at the edge of the roof, and if you dont sweep it off and get it cleaned, it will back up underneath the back of the house.

Thats all great to keep in mind because your gutters are the first line of defense against water problems in your home.

If you cant or dont want to clean your gutters, call on a professional to do the work. They should remove all leaves and other debris from your roof, gutters, and downspouts. They should also check the overall condition of your gutters and make any necessary repairs.

How much might you be charged for a cleaning? Andrus gave me this estimate. Usually it runs under just a minimum fee, and it kind of depends on how much debris is in the gutters, too, but onyour normal house, youre gonna be somewhere between $150-250.

While leaf guards, covers, and screens can help reduce debris collecting in your gutter, you should still check them regularly. Experts say up to 20 percent of leaves and other material can get through a gutter cover.

And if you do it yourself, beware of some of the dangers. I wouldnt suggest getting on the roof, because youre gonna be leaning over working in the gutter, says Andrus. Its probably safer to work from a stepladder. We see more falls from people cleaning gutters really than anything else.

Plymouth looks at second well

The Plymouth Village Board took up the subject of constructing a second water well at its meeting on Wednesday night, Dec. 4.

One bid was presented for the project, with costs to exceed $100,000. A representative of the bidding firm told the board that they could reduce costs somewhat by removing the final grass seeding from the contractor's specifications. That would reduce the project cost by approximately $2,000.

Because the bid was received right at the deadline, the board could not put the matter on their monthly agenda, prohibiting it from taking final action. This is expected to happen at its January 2014 meeting.

In another water-related business matter, the impending retirement of Evelyn Baker as water collector prompted a short closed door session regarding a possible successor for that position. The board decided to give Village Clerk Phyllis Smith that responsibility, along with an increase of $152.50 in pay for the added duties involved.

In a matter drawing some contention, the board discussed their annual "clothing allowance" for full-time employees. Trustee Wendi Mattson took issue with the long-standing practice, stating that the payment was not actually for its stated purpose and should be considered inappropriate.

Despite Mattson's protest, the board largely ignored that by stating that it was a long standing practice of the village. The board approved a $100 allowance for both Phyllis Smith and Tedd Simmons, with Mattson as the only dissenting vote.

In the night's remaining business, the board:

Approved the annual tax levy ordinance.

Approved moving January's meeting date to January 8th, due to the New Year's Day holiday.

You are a top-seeded player with a better ITF ranking in this tournament. Do you see a tough challenge from other players? Like I said, each and every match is important for me. Even top rank players loses to a new entrant. It all depends on how you play. I like hard court and most of the players around the world prefer hard court. So, there is tough challenge from other players here in this tournament.

What is the difference you see between grass court and hard court? Wimbledon is the oldest event of tennis and is played in grass court. The ball keeps a little low in grass court and some times there is uneven bounce, which needs very fast reaction. Whereas in hard court, the bounce is similar throughout the match.

How much tennis is popular in Poland? Though football is more popular in my country, there is substantial number of people who play tennis. Tennis is quite popular and the young generation enjoy the sport the most.

How is the experience of coming and playing in India? This is my first visit to this country. First, I played in Pune and now in Navi Mumbai. I am surprised to see the enthusiasm for the game here. The match venue is nice and people are very supportive.

Who are your role models? Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal are my role models.

HARLAN (Nov. 4) -- If this was indeed the final game played on Merrill Fields real grass, Harlan Community picked a memorable win to send out the sod.

Avenging their last two gridiron defeats in one fell swoop, the 5th-ranked Cyclones never trailed in Monday nights Class 3-A, second-round playoff game and held off Carrolls fourth-quarter charge to beat the 8th-ranked Tigers, 21-18.

HCHS (10-1) converted two crucial third-and-two downs in running out the final 3:53, allowing quarterback Adam Juhl to take a knee at midfield and cap the programs 90th all-time playoff victory.

This one was extra special for 20 Cyclone seniors, who have taken their share of lumps vs. Carroll going all the way back to youth football games in fifth grade. The Tigers (8-3) handed HCHS its only loss this season and last year ended the Cyclones incredible run of 33 first-round playoff games without a loss.

I never thought of it that way, but yeah, it is [memorable], said HCHS head coach Curt Bladt. Thats the first time that (our) senior group - as a group - have ever beaten (Carroll), and most of the time they got their clocks cleaned so it was very satisfying, Im sure, for them to get the win.

Several Cyclone seniors did participate in last years regular-season win at Carroll, as well as a JV win in 2011, but this is the first time they have all been together on the same squad for a victory over the Tigers.

We all just agreed that it was time to put our foot down, said senior tailback Nate Gettys, who rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries. This is the last time were ever going to play them so we all just said, Lets go all out and get the job done, and we did.

Its kind of just a weight lifted off our shoulders.

Senior Nate Cave, a two-way starter who logged 15 tackles, agreed that Mondays playoff win makes up for some of the previous losses to Carroll. Theyve been beating up on us since little league, he said, and to get the win when it really matters - it means the world to the whole team.

This was really good for us. We needed it.

As things have been a bit quiet around here, weve decided to move house.

The timing is perfect because its only a few weeks until Christmas and, well, I dont seem to have anything better to do than fill endless amounts of boxes and clean tops of kitchen cupboards that havent been touched in five years. Right?

Ive been desperate to move house. This house is okay but it needs stuff doing to it and even if we sorted/tidied/decorated it would still drive me mad. Im over it, in the way you get over a relationship that has had its day. In fact my love affair with this house is not unlike that of my teenage boyfriend it was true love that faded slowly then suddenly.

There is another reason to my wanting to move I strongly feel that if we move house, it will improve our family karma. Our family feng-shui. Our house is full of clutter and crap that weve collected over the years and with three children comes a lot more clutter and crap. Its time to have a clear out and take half of our belongings to the tip.

Feng-shui is an ancient form of aesthetics. It is basically that if you put things in the right place then you will get positivity. Having dead flowers in a vase for two weeks is not good feng-shui. Neither is a burnt pan that you keep in the dishwasher with the hope that it will one day come clean. And the worse kind of feng-shui is buying fresh fruit only to watch it decay before throwing it out just to buy fresh fruit all over again in a never ending cycle.

When I have googled Family Feng-Shui the first article I clicked on was mainly an advertisement for New Kitchens From Tesco so already Im not convinced its entirely authentic but Im willing to give it a go in a new home.

However I am not very good at this feng-shui. Im wondering if that is whats causing some negative family energy, like stressful school run and having to say something 5000 times before a child listens. Im thinking if I should make the effort to install a flowing water feature in a bright, clutter free room or place incense sticks strategically in a south-east corner. Or just get a new kitchen from Tesco.

Apparently to bring harmony and therefore be able to get everyone out of the house in less than 15 hours, its worth doing a full feng-shui. Ive looked up our elements and the only way I have it covered is by:

Wood: Dog-chewed bit of branches

Fire: Box of matches for the odd sneaky fag
