Acoustibloks All Weather Sound Panel noise barriers installed under the premium seating section of the new east side grandstand at Illinois State Universitys $27.6 million renovated football stadium diminishes loud compressor noise and gives fans a better game day experience.

All Weather Sound Panels are industrial grade acoustical barrier assemblies used to block excessive noise in industrial, commercial, institutional and community environments. These unique noise barrier panels are not just sound absorbing but also sound blocking. This allows them to not only absorb the loud mechanical noise, but also stop noise from penetrating through the panel.

The renovation of Hancock Stadium was needed to replace the outdated structures in the stadium that had been the home to Illinois State University since the early 1960s. The stadium lacked modern amenities and premium seating and entertainment areas that are common in todays modern college football stadiums. The renovation focused on the stadiums east side area which was rebuilt and transformed into the stadiums new modern 7-story front entrance and premium seating area. These new indoor areas require ventilation, cooling, heating and also refrigeration for concession and entertainment areas which require the use of noisy compressors. These machines typically result in a combination of two noise sources: noise that was already there in the signal, now amplified; and noise created by the actual circuit design and components of the compressor. Compressors often draw complaints for loud humming, rumbling, scraping, thumping and vibrating, rattling, squealing, or pop and bang sounds.

At Hancock Stadium and most stadiums in general, the noisy compressors and other mechanical equipment are located under the concourse level which typically pose a noise problem if not properly addressed with an acoustical barrier like Acoustibloks All Weather Sound Panels. These panels are available in various sizes up to 4 x 12 foot, are approximately 2.44-inches thick with aluminum frame and have a perforated aluminum grille. They are all welded, with tubular enforced eyelets in the frame allowing use of anchors or tapcons for wall mounting. All Weather Sound Panels contain the companys signature product, Acoustiblok sound mitigating material which is a 1/8-inch thick heavy mineral-filled viscoelastic material which stops sound from penetrating through it. David Vance is senior vice president of Associated Constructors, a Bloomington, Illinois multi-trade subcontracting construction company that performed the interior finishing work for the Hancock Stadium renovation project. The company has been in existence for 29 years.

We installed two sections of Acoustibloks All Weather Sound panels in areas that were approximately 16 X 70 feet. The panels were suspended with unistrut metal framing system and 3/8 inch threaded cable rod on the same slope on the bottom of the bleachers, said Vance.

BEIJING A dozen residents of a central Chinese city protested the demolition of their homes by drinking pesticide in Beijing in a desperate bid for attention that underscores the failures of a decades-old petitioning system.

The 12 survived the protest Tuesday near a historic watchtower in the heart of China's capital after police sent them to a hospital, where they were being treated Wednesday for poisoning, said Wang Yuping, one of the residents.

Chinese petitioners sometimes are driven to extreme measures as their frustration boils over after years of unresolved grievances and routine beatings by local authorities.

Wang, 40, and the others had traveled to Beijing from a district in Wuhan, the provincial capital of Hubei province, to draw attention to their complaints. Wang described the protest as a group suicide attempt.

"We have been petitioning for so many years, but either we have been dragged back home or locked in secret jails and beaten, and no one has been willing to help us," Wang said by telephone. "We felt like there was no hope left."

Each petitioner drank about 50 milliliters (1.7 ounces) of pesticide, Wang said, then lay down on the ground until police bundled them into vehicles and drove them to a hospital.

"I felt dizzy and nauseous," he said from a hospital in the southwestern Fengtai district.

Wang said the petitioners have been unsuccessfully seeking redress since 2010 for the razing of their homes by local authorities who provided little or no compensation.

Local government and police offices in Wuhan could not be reached by phone.

Every year in China, millions of complaints are filed about what petitioners see as injustice or incompetence by local officials in issues such as land expropriation, forced home demolitions and labor disputes, or the failure of local authorities to prosecute crimes.

China residents drink pesticide to protest demolition of homes

Revenue officials are planning to slap a show-cause notice on the management of Vaamika Resorts at Panavally for failing to demolish the illegal structures erected on Vettila Thuruthu Island in Vembanad Lake.

The Supreme Court had earlier ordered that the unauthorised structures in the resort should be pulled down. The court had also dismissed a Special Leave Petition filed by the resort owners.

Though the resort management was asked to demolish the illegal structures, which included two fully completed buildings and a partially constructed one, they have not complied with the order. The demolition was stopped halfway, said M. Sundaran Achari, Thahasildar, Cherthala.

One month has passed since the deadline for the order for knocking down the structure was issued and hence the legal action.

The Village officer of Panavally was directed to issue a show-cause notice, he said.

Earlier, the panchayat authorities had shared information and pictures of demolition drive with the Revenue officials.

A team of officials led by the Alappuzha District Collector was expected to visit the site to confirm that the court order regarding the demolition was implemented in full, an official said.

At the same time, the resort authorities maintained that the demolition was stopped halfway following a direction from some officials regarding the disposal of debris.

An official had directed that structure could be razed down only after making elaborate arrangements for the management of debris. The Revenue officials were informed about the developments, said the manager of the resort. The resort authorities also maintained that they lacked the expertise for the management of debris from the demolition of the buildings structures

The officials are awaiting an order from the Chief Secretary for implementing the Kerala High Court order to pull down the illegal cottages constructed by Kapico Kerala Resorts on Nediathuruthu in Vembanad Lake. The court had ordered that the villas constructed in violation of the Coastal Regulation Zone notification be razed. As the demolition requires expertise and money, which are beyond the means of the district administration, it requires a government order for raising the resources.
