Groupon is very popular with consumers and can offer great deals, but the company'srole is to bring you and the business together. It's still the consumer's job to fully research the company.
"My wife uses it a lot," Rick Jahns said.
Rick Jahns decided to give Groupon a try as well. He found a deal for Be Green Carpet Cleaning in Phoenix.The deal was for three rooms of300 square feet each for $69. But Jahns says when Be Green arrived the deal started changing.
"He said he measuredone room and it was 410 square feet and there would be a $60 charge because it was bigger than 300 square feet," Jahns said.
Jahns says the total of the three rooms was still under 900 square feet but the extra fee still applied. Jahns says there were other problems with the work too. Be Green workers knocked his closet doors off their hinges, didn't move items back to their proper place as promised and did a poor job removing dogurine stains off the carpet. Jahns went around with a black light after the treatment.
"And they were all still there and what was there is now much worse," Jahns said.
Jahns says when he saw the handwritten final bill, he was shocked to see it was for $827.
"All the time we were talking before, he never gave me a price on anything except that first $60 for a big room," Jahns said.
Jahns paid the bill but later called Be Green Carpet Cleaning to complain about the extra charges. Jahns didn't do any research on his own - he thought Groupon handled that. He's learned that extensive researching is not Groupon's job, it's the consumer's.

SCRANTON A bridge in Scranton that connects downtown to the citys west side reopened Friday.
Its been nearly three years since a retaining wall under the Linden Street bridge started crumbling. And though the bridge is only a few hundred feet long, folks who use it say now that its open it will have a big impact on traffic.
It was March of 2011 when a driver noticed the bridge on Linden Street had a huge hole in it. It was closed right away and sat untouched until earlier this year.
PennDOT officials say there were a lot of holdups before crews could replace the bridge but they finished up their work this week and reopened it to traffic Wednesday afternoon.
It may not seem like a long distance, but the extra half mile detour Karin Fosters had to drive from her house in West Scranton to downtown has added up after nearly three years.
Until they changed the light on Seventh Avenue, it was back up onto Main Avenue almost every day. So, its going to be a tremendous help to all the businesses on Main Avenue. Theyve had a big hit financially because people couldnt go over quick for lunch like they could before, Foster said.
Its been a big headache so Foster wanted to be there to see it when officials pulled away the barriers and opened the new Linden Street bridge. PennDOT press officer Mike Taluto took the first trip over, which was unintentionally a coincidence. Back in March of 2011, long before he worked for PennDOT, Taluto took his car across this bridge and noticed the retaining wall holding it up was crumbling.
I was coming home one night and I looked over and saw this big hole in the street. I go to the top of the hill and I thought I better go back down and I drove back down and the hole was getting bigger and bigger, then I just called police, Taluto recalled.
PennDOT closed the bridge immediately but then in sat for almost two years with no work being done on the bridge. PennDOT officials say thats because there were complicating factors. Underneath it, railroad tracks, water mains, fiber optic cables, and gas lines all needed to be moved.
