A NEW monthly stall has opened in Bromsgrove Market offering residents help and support on home security.

Shoppers will be able to buy the high tech SmartWater from the district councils community safety team at the stall, which will be by the Housman Statue from 8.30am on the first Saturday of every month.

A single kit, for just 15, can be used to mark more than 100 items. The usual price is 50.

The invisible and permanent SmartWater solution links residents belongings. Each one has a unique code in it, similar to that of DNA, and then if lost and stolen goods are recovered, the owners can be reunited with them.

Such is the power of SmartWater, criminals have even been convicted on the strength of it being used in court to link perpetrators to their crimes.

Sales of the solution will also help those affected by crime across the district because for every two kits sold, Safer Bromsgrove will donate one free kit to a crime victim.

North Worcestershire Community Safety Partnership chairman Sue Hanley said: By buying SmartWater in this way you not only improve your home security but you support victims as well.

The SmartWater can also be ordered from the Worcestershire Hub Customer Service Centre on School Drive, Bromsgrove.

Rashad (Claire in The Cosby Show; Tony Award for the revival of A Raisin in the Sun) directed A Raisin in the Sun last year at the Westport Country Playhouse, which honored the actress-director last month at its annual fundraising gala.

The show runs Nov. 27 to Dec. 22, on the theaters main stage, with the opening set for Dec. 4. Tickets are $40 to $75.

The play was originally developed at the Eugene ONeill Theater Centers National Playwrights Conference in the mid -80s, It later made its world premiere at the Yale Repertory Theatre. and opened on Broadway starring James Earl Jones and Mary Alice in 1987 . The play won top awards including the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award.

Jim Nussle, The Nussle Group, and Steven Rattner, Willett Advisors chairman, weigh in on the future of the debt crisis and whether to expect another budget battle.

The first thing Republicans and Democrats need to do is rebuild goodwill and "get to know each other" again following the latest bruising debt fight, former White House budget director Jim Nussle told CNBC on Friday.

"Let's start with the pizza" and then get down to the work to find solutions to the nation's debt problems, said Nussle, who served as director of the Office of Management and Budget under President George W. Bush.

Nussle spoke on "Squawk Box" a day after President Barack Obama challenged Republicans to "win an election" if they want to overturn his policies.

Despite the tough talk, "the president is totally capable of negotiating" with Republicans, said Steven Rattner, who served as Obama's car czar.

This week's eventual compromise to extend the debt ceiling until Feb. 7 and reopen the government with funding until Jan. 15 was a "teachable moment," he said. "I think we have learned the American people do not believe in using the debt ceiling as a negotiating tool."

"The American people have [also] said, 'no mas,' to trying to get rid of Obamacare through the back door," said Rattnerreferring to Republican attempts to use the debt ceiling and the government shutdown as leverage to defund or delay the president's health-care law.

A demolition date for the Port Kembla stack may well be months away.

The NSW Planning and Infrastructure department this week placed two plans from Port Kembla Copper (PKC) on exhibition for public comment.

A demolition management plan and evacuation management plan are on exhibition until October 31.

The government needs to sign off on those plans before the stack demolition can take place and a Planning and Infrastructure department spokesman said that could be some time away.

Plans for demolitionof stack go on show

Following the end of the two-week exhibition, the department and other agencies will consider the submissions received and, once satisfied that the plans are appropriate, will then give the final sign-off, the spokesman said.

He said it was not possible to estimate a timeframe by which the documents would receive the stamp of approval.

While the department is keen to progress the matter in a timely fashion, its not possible to speculate on how long this may take as it is dependent on a number of factors such as the number and nature of the submissions received and whether any changes to the plans are required as a result, he said.

Once the plans are signed off a demolition date will then be determined in discussion with PKC and all relevant government agencies.

Port Kembla stack demolition put on hold

MANCHESTER, CT (WFSB) -

A historic building destroyed by a devastating fire nearly a week ago was expected to be demolished on Friday night, but it was halted. The demolition will begin 6:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Fire ripped through a historic building at 801 Main St., which was home to more than 20 apartments and two businesses - the Great Harvest Bread Company and Connecticut Valley Coin Saturday night.

Flames swept through the building, which was built in the early 1900's, and was smoldering for days.

Demolition on the building started Sunday night, but has been halted multiple times.

Fencing was put up around the property in preparation for the demolition earlier this week.

Before demolition could begin, crews cleared the debris from the site. The demolition work began around 6 p.m. Friday, but was halted by 7:15 p.m.

Residents next to the burned-out building needed to leave their homes until after the building is brought down because of safety issues.

"As far as I know, the fire marshal told us our building has been cleared by the engineers and cleared by the fire department as structurally sound, so that's even more frustrating to know that our home is OK and we still can't get in it," Diane Burke said.

Once demolition begins, the 800 block of Main Street will be southbound only, and northbound traffic will be detoured down Oak Street.

MANCHESTER Demolition of a burned out Main Street building began on Friday evening and is expected to be finished on Saturday.

Workers were scheduled to start razing 801-809 Main St. early on Friday, but the contractor did not have the necessary higher level demolition license, town officials said. BriCo Environmental Services Solutions had to bring in a subcontractor with the right equipment and credentialed personnel, officials said.

Fire Chief Robert Bycholski said the subcontractor stopped work on Friday night and planned to finish the job on Saturday. He said the demolition and debris removal may affect traffic on Main Street at times.

The fire broke out on Oct. 12 and destroyed the 1905 building, which housed two businesses and eight residents in a rooming house. The fire was not considered suspicious, but no cause has been found, fire officials said on Friday.

Residents in an adjacent building also have been displaced until demolition is complete.

The property owner has agreed to fund police security at the scene until the tear-down is finished, he wrote in a news release.
