The demolition of the former Dayton Daily News building caused the brief shutdown of Ludlow Street on Thursday afternoon when chunks of concrete worked loose.
Chunks of brick and concrete fell out onto Ludlow when the remnants of the building shifted. The debris hit the street just before 6 p.m.
A Dayton police officer, who was driving by the project site, saw the incident and had the street shut down from Third to Fourth streets.
No one was injured. Ludlow was reopened at about 6:30 p.m.
The razing of the former Daily News building, at Fourth and Ludlow streets, began on Aug. 20. A historic portion of the newspaper building -- the "bank" building and a piece of the Fourth Street facade, which are on the National Register of Historic Places -- will be preserved.
Part of the non-historic section of the building was brought down in mid-August with the implosion of the 12-story Schwind Building, 25-27 S. Ludlow St. The demolition, which will make room for a student housing development, should be wrapped up by early December.

Demolition of a house where six children were killed in a blaze set by their parents Mick and Mairead Philpott, is due to begin.
The Philpotts were jailed in April, along with friend Paul Mosley, after being convicted of six counts of manslaughter.
The demolition work is expected to take about three weeks to complete.
Derby City Council said more housing will be built on the site of 18 Victory Road and the neighbouring house.
A council spokeswoman said: "Residents living in close proximity to the properties have been informed."

Some people suggested a garden of remembrance should replace the house. Those living nearby didn't want that. They feared it could become a shrine and a magnet for anti-social behaviour.
There is already a children's playground elsewhere dedicated to the memory of the six children. So, alternative housing of some sort will replace the property where they died at the hands of their parents and a family friend.
A petition had called for a memorial garden to be built on the site, but local residents and the council decided they did not want a permanent reminder.

The owner of a home in a housing estate in Pin Klao received a shock on Wednesday night when a decorative overhanging roof on the front of his two-storey residence suddenly plunged to the ground and on top of the car parked below.

The house is inThe City Pin Klao estate on Phutthamonthon Sai 2 Road, which was builtby listed developer AP (Thailand) Plc.
User "Nga Ging" posted the information ofthe popular Pantip.com web board along withpictures of the structural failure, saying the collapsed roof fell from about three metres about 9pm.
The tangle of metal and roofing tiles damaged a car parked below owned by the father of the house owner.
Nga Ging said he had been living in his house for over three years.
He tookphotographs of the collapsed and drooping structure showing five extension bolts that seemed to be too small to support its weight, according to comments posted.
Commenters questioned the size of the extension bolts and their ability to support the structure, but the developer claims the builder put them in the wrong place.
Netizens blamed the collapseon the useof bolts they said failed to meet specifications and poor installation.
The house owner said he complained to the developer, who on Thursday morning sent staff to investigate the incident. The company helped clear away all the debris and promised to make repairs and pay compensation for the damage to the car.
Taking advantage of Silicon Valley's robust economy, affluent techies are building or remodeling homes, transforming parts of the area's older housing stock and fueling a boom for Bay Area architects and interior designers.
"The problem is finding time to sleep," said architect Roger Kohler, of Palo Alto, whose firm has more than 20 projects in construction or just completed in Los Altos, Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Atherton.
The tech workers range from midlevel engineers at startups or at tech giants like Apple (AAPL), Facebook and Google (GOOG) to older CEOs or founders selling their companies. Some are doing relatively straightforward, if pricey, remodels, while others are leveling old homes and building new ones with basement game rooms, large garages and the latest in high-tech features.
Catherine Jhung, a vice president at Cleantech.com, and her husband, Brian Buchholz, who works at Google, are including "a lot of the new technologies for green building" in the San Carlos Craftsman-style home they will soon break ground on. The existing home -- which they bought seven years ago -- was torn down. Construction bids are coming in at $270 to $285 a square foot, or about $900,000.
"We're doing a lot to make it look lived in," Jhung said. That includes tongue-and-groove wall paneling, ceiling paneling and vintage-looking fixtures.
The new home will be wired for plug-in electric cars and solar panels, and have the latest in energy-efficient windows, a smart thermostat, top-of-the-line insulation and solar-powered skylights.
'Floodgates opened'
San Jose architect Eugene Sakai, who designed the San Carlos home, said surging demand has the architects, contractors and interior designers who survived the recession "super busy."
"The valley's money machine never stopped running, but people were socking it away. When the economy came back the floodgates opened with pent-up demand for projects."
He estimated 80 percent of his clients are in tech or have profited from investing in tech stocks. "We're definitely benefiting from the tech economy."

Silicon Valley techies spur home building and remodeling boom
WINSTON-SALEMMembers of a Triad church and hundreds of volunteers spent September 11th giving back to veterans.
They kicked off "Homes for Our Heroes and plan to renovate five houses in Winston-Salem where homeless vets will eventually live.
It's a project military leaders say is much needed in the community.
Volunteers began rehabbing five houses on Wednesday morning off Cameron Avenue. The houses will eventually be home to veterans who don't have one.
"I really don't think the public has a real concept of just how huge this is, especially when you think about the fact that we have nearly a million veteran claims that haven't been addressed yet, said LTCOL Marcus Taylor, a chaplain with the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary.
Whole Man Ministries began fundraising for the project nearly two years ago, lead by Pastor Barry Washington and his wife, Camilla.
From time to time, we'd go down to Samaritan's Ministries, and he met some veterans there that were transitioning. So he wanted something they could call their own, and that's how we got here, Camilla said.
Project organizers are still looking for volunteers. People who are skilled in plumbing, HVAC and electrical are encouraged to get involved.
"We feel honored that we're able to help. Even if it's just a small piece, it's like a ripple in a pond. We hope it will spread, said Bethany Sietsma, who volunteered with Roof Replacements Solutions.
"There's only so much that the VA system can do. So when you have programs like this where a church gets involved, I think this is the kind of thing that's going to help us put a dent in this, Taylor said.
