Demolition began Tuesday on several flood-damaged buildings along Findlay's North Main Street.
County Commissioner Mark Gazarek, who was on site Tuesday afternoon, said the contractor appeared to moving through the demolition quickly.
"I wouldn't be surprised if these buildings are down by tomorrow," he said Tuesday.
The contractor was given 45 days to clear the site.
The buildings at 115, 117, 119, 120, 121, 123, 125 and 131 N. Main St. stand in the Blanchard River floodway, and were damaged in the August 2007 flood.
They were bought by the Northwest Ohio Flood Mitigation Partnership following the flood, and later were handed over to the county commissioners. In June, the Ohio Historical Preservation Office agreed to allow the demolition.
The commissioners awarded the demolition contract to Hume Supply, Lima. The company bid $33,567 for the demolition of all the buildings except for 120 N. Main St. The company bid $4,650 for demolition of that building.
Steve Wilson, project manager for the Hancock County Engineer's Office, said money from the county's Moving Ohio Forward Grant will pay for demolition of all the buildings except for 120 N. Main St. Money from the county's flood-control fund will pay for the demolition of that building.

People never thought it would happen, but work on the regeneration of Bracknell has finally started
Bulldozers have finally moved in to Bracknell this week nearly two decades after regeneration plans were first aired.
Sceptics never thought they would see it happen but the towns D-Day demolition day came on Tuesday when the most visible sign of the regeneration yet could be seen from The Ring.
Diggers descended on the town and the first building to be transformed into a pile of rubble and a cloud of dust was the former Lovegrove Funeral Directors, opposite the rear of Waitrose.
Councillor Paul Bettison, leader of Bracknell Forest Council, hopes the sceptics, who said they will believe it when they see it, will eat their words with humility.
He added: I have always believed in it, but then I have had a very privileged view, knowing the news before everyone else.
I am sure many people will get a twinge of nostalgia as those buildings come down but we have got to clear away the old to build the new.
Builders have spent the past month stripping and removing utilities and asbestos from empty units in Broadway and Crossway, which businesses vacated by June 4, as part of Phase Two of the town centre regeneration.
Demolition was due to start as early as July but that work was held up after some buildings were found to be riddled with asbestos.

Adams added, "One of the easiest ways to find out is to take the vent cover off, stick a camera phone down there and take a picture. They are going to be able to see down the duct. Another sign is if the house is dusty a day or two after cleaning the house." Angie's List says you have to do your research when hiring to make sure you get a reputable contractor. Angie Hicks of Angie's List said, "One of the more common things that we hear about with air duct cleaning comes down to pricing. It's important for consumers to get written in-home estimates because a lot of times air duct cleaning is based on either the square footage of the home or the number of vents. A typical air duct cleaning might cost anywhere from $300-$500. If you find you're being offered a really low price, you're going to want to question it."

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Cars normally drive through Arland Car Wash with no problems, so what happened Tuesday afternoon was a big surprise:
"Oh my Gosh! I was in shock, you know - I couldn't believe that she actually did that," said Dana White, a manager at Arland Car Wash.
Surveillance video shows driver Mildred Peters slowly driving her Nissan out of the car wash. But instead of turning right to exit, she drove right off the retaining wall.
"Everyone was just worried if she was okay or not. The fire department and everybody came and people from Verizon next door were going and asking her if she was okay," said White.
Including Greg Greene, who works at Verizon.
"I looked through the window and saw that the vehicle was flipped over, and immediately ran down. There was another pedestrian that had laid down in the broken glass and was holding her hand and talking to her and so I immediately called 911," said Greene.
Peters said she's fine and ended up with just a scratch on her arm. She said she was distracted and didn't see the sign alerting her to turn right when she drove out.
The car wash said something this serious is a first.
"It's happened where a tire went on the mulch there, but nothing where they went completely over like that," said White.

Brings down transformer affecting power supply for 10 hours
Heavy rain on Tuesday led to the collapse of the retaining wall of a building under construction, also bringing down a nearby transformer. The wall was part of a 12-storey administrative building of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD). The contract was given to DEC Infrastructure & Projects (India)Private Limited by CPWD and the site has been under construction since February 2012, covering an area of 4,000 square metres. The incident occurred around 1.30 am, affecting power supply in the area for over 10 hours.
CPWD superintending engineer S N Rai said: Anchors, which have a capacity of 135 tonnes, were put in a 45-degree angle to support the walls. We believe one of these anchors must have given way. We are yet to establish the real cause of the mishap. As of now, we are trying to restore the damaged portion of the road.
Domlur corporator Geetha Srinivas Reddy told Deccan Herald that she had requested CPWD to build new drainage and sewage pipelines before the construction of the Kendriya Sadan. However, my suggestion was not taken seriously. I think the incident happened due to the presence of loose soil underneath the building. Due to the collapse of the transformer pole, sewage pipelines in and around have been badly damaged, she added.
CPWD engineer Damodar Rao said since the site was in a low-lying area, the wall came under immense pressure as water collected in and around it.
The soil on the side of the collapsed wall loosened due to the damaged sewage lines as well as constant rain, which could have caused the mishap, he said.

Main Street in Munhall is about to become a lot busier.
Allegheny County Department of Public Works announced on Wednesday that a portion of Homestead-Duquesne Road a main artery for the borough will be closed for at least seven weeks because of a collapsed retaining wall between Franklin Street and Duquesne Avenue.
Public Works director Steven Johnson said county officials had hoped to fix the wall for awhile, but the recent collapse onto an existing inlet and partial roadway shoulder along with ongoing waterline work created an immediate need to close the street.
In association with that, there's a depression on Franklin bend that is a hazard and there's no temporary fix available, said Johnson. So we're closing the road to keep people away from that hazard, which will be fixed as part of the plan to repair the retaining wall.
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Thursday, a two-mile detour route will be posted, funneling traffic onto Main Street. At the intersection of Main Street and Farragut Street, drivers will be directed to travel south on Main Street for 1.4 miles before making a left onto Brierly Lane and traveling another mile to Homestead-Duquesne Road. The detour will be the same in the opposite direction from Homestead-Duquesne Road and Brierly Lane.
Johnson said drivers should be aware of potential traffic delays in the area.
It's an unavoidable situation, he said. We have to close the road for public safety and so that we can effectively repair it. Any detour can cause people confusion and delays.
The project to stabilize the slope along Homestead-Duquesne Road will begin with the construction of a retaining wall extension expected to be completed in early December.
