These conditions resulted in significant decrease in the sales volume of our ceramic tile products for the quarter. We also experienced a decline in our average selling price in the quarter due to intensified price competition in our sector that caused us to reduce the price of our products to retain market share," said Mr. Jiadong Huang, CEO of China Ceramics.

"Despite the quarter's results, we believe that the operating fundamentals of our business are sound. In order to adjust to current market conditions and reduce operating costs, we shut down some plant capacity during the fourth quarter. We are currently utilizing production facilities capable of producing 46 million square meters per year out of a total annual productive capacity of 72 million square meters. We will continue to monitor the macroeconomic environment and act prudently in terms of utilizing our full production capacity. We are cautiously optimistic about an increase in demand and a rebound in pricing beginning in the second quarter of 2013 that would enable us to increase the utilization of our new and modern production capabilities."

Fourth Quarter 2012 Results

Revenue for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2012 was RMB 245.3 million (US$ 40.0 million), down 39.3% from RMB 404.5 million (US$ 63.8 million) for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2011. The year-over-year decrease in revenue was primarily driven by a 29.8% decrease in the sales volume of ceramic tiles to 8.7 million square meters in the fourth quarter of 2012 from 12.4 million square meters in the fourth quarter of 2011. The decrease in revenue was also driven by a 13.8% decrease in the Company's average selling price, which decreased in the fourth quarter of 2012 to RMB 28.2 per square meter compared to RMB 32.7 per square meter in the comparable quarter of 2011. The Company attributes its reduced sales volume to the continued challenging business conditions in China's real estate sector. Beginning in December 2012, the Company reduced the selling price of its ceramic tile products to be competitive in the market and maintain its market share. The Company believes that the decrease in the pricing of its ceramic tile products is temporary and that product pricing will revert to normal levels once business conditions improve.

Gross profit for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2012 was RMB 29.3 million (US$ 4.9 million), down 79.0% from RMB 139.4 million (US$ 21.9 million) for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2011. The year-over-year decrease in gross profit was attributable to lower sales volume and the decrease in the average selling price of the Company's ceramic tiles in the quarter. Gross profit margin was 12.0% for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2012 compared to 34.5% for the same period in 2011. The year-over-year decrease in gross profit margin for the fourth quarter was caused by a decrease in the average selling price of ceramic tiles in the quarter.

Grinnell Mutuals Special Investigations Unit releases a video in which investigators describe how home sprinkler systems work to protect lives and property. This video follows a home fire safety burn cell demonstration released in March that showed the effectiveness of residential sprinkler systems.

Sprinkler systems absolutely save lives. Im not aware of any fire fatalities in a commercial building that had a sprinkler system installed in which someone died from a normal fire. An event such as the 9/11 terrorist attacks are an exception, said Clark, assistant vice president of Grinnell Mutuals Special Investigations Unit. Beyond that, Ive never heard of any fire deaths reported in a residential structure in which sprinklers were installed and a fire occurred.

According to Knobloch, wet systems are commonly used for home sprinkler systems. In a wet system, water runs into the pipes from the water meter to the sprinkler head.

The sprinkler head is mounted into either the ceiling or wall as determined by the specs for the home, explained Knobloch, Special Investigations manager. If a fire occurs, the heat generated from the fire activates the sprinkler head. Water is released into the room, suppressing the fire until fire personnel arrive to do the complete extinguish.

While home sprinkler systems do not extinguish fires, they do allow time for people to evacuate time that is critical in allowing people to escape a burning building. Temperatures in a room without a sprinkler system are estimated to reach flashover the point at which all combustible materials in a room simultaneously ignite within just five minutes of a small fire beginning.

Once the sprinkler system activates, it will suppress the fire long enough for anyone in the building to get out, said Knobloch.

Can sprinklers be installed in existing homes?

While its easier to install a home sprinkler system in the course of construction, it is possible to install a system in an existing home.

With new construction you can lay out the sprinkler system in the blueprints and have everything installed before drywall or carpets are put in. But, you can retrofit an existing home using ceiling and wall mounts, said Clark. In fact, you can cover most of the areas in existing homes at a fairly modest expense and without a lot of interruption to your daily life.

AN AUDACIOUS idea has been floated to relocate Greenock's James Watt College - to the town's historic Sugar Sheds.

Local MSP Stuart McMillan is calling for a feasibility study to be carried out to look into the possibility of a new campus at James Watt Dock, writing to college bosses, Riverside Inverclyde, the council and Clydeport about the suggestion.

The college is set to merge with its counterparts in Paisley and Clydebank and the current condition of its Finnart Street HQ has prompted the SNP's Mr McMillan to start a debate.

He said: "With the Scottish Government's college regionalisation process currently under way, there are exciting times ahead for students and lecturers in the west of Scotland.

"One of the areas that may be uncertain however is the fabric of the buildings at JWC on Finnart Street.

"As the current economic climate is still slower than we would all wish for, it may be the opportune time for Riverside Inverclyde and its partners to consider a 'plan B' for the James Watt Dock site in terms of regeneration.

"Education has a pivotal role to play in regeneration and utilising the iconic Sugar Sheds may provide a once in a lifetime opportunity to provide a truly inspirational facility."

The college moved to its current Finnart Street home in 1973 and there has been investment in the building over the years, with 2.6 million from the Scottish Government spent on refurbishment in January 2009.

But Mr McMillan believes there are question marks over the long term viability of the distinctive building.

SOMERTON For Judge Manuel Figueroa, the remodeling of the Somerton Municipal Court couldn't come too soon.

The building that houses the court was built around 1938, he said, and since the 1980s, it's undergone no renovation.

The problems we had were insufficient space and security risks. For example, with the WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Program being in the same building, it could happen that prisoners would pass areas where there were children, or the judge had to cross paths with people who had cases in the court.

But a remodeling project undertaken by the city at a cost of nearly $260,000 will improve security and functionality for both employees and the public in the courtroom that handles 7,000 cases annually, Figueroa said.

Renovation of the courtroom at 350 W. Main St. began in August and is nearly wrapped up, with installation of interior and exterior security cameras still to be completed.

It was a total remodeling, Figueroa said. Practically all that remains of the building is the structure and the four walls. It was a necessary project because there was no space and because the entire court needs a professional image. A lot of time people's futures are decided here.

With the redesign, the building has a larger courtroom, an interview room for attorneys and their clients, plus new offices for court employees.

Until 2009, the building housed not only Somerton Municipal Court and the WIC Program, but also the Justice Court that serves south Yuma County. The Justice Court has since been relocated to San Luis, and while the WIC program remains in the Somerton building, the remodeling project has separated program clients from the court.

The remodeling included refurbishing of the building's exterior, floors and ceilings, rewiring and installation of a new telephone system.

As part of new security measures in the building, areas restricted to court employees are equipped with locks that are opened only with a password or through fingerprint identification.

A day after the murder of a senior citizen in Jayanagar, the police have found that two people were involved in the crime. A special team has been dispatched to Tamil Nadu to track down the main accused, Ramachandra, the plumber.

A senior official involved in the investigation informed that at first it was believed that Ramachandra had acted alone.

However, it has emerged that a second man, Vasanth, was involved after the forensics team found two separate sets of fingerprints at the crime scene.

On Monday morning, Ramachandra, who was working in the house of the victim, Chandra Narasimha (78), enticed her older sisters, Munilakshamma (88) and Sharada (79) to the terrace on the pretext of repairing some pipe in their room upstairs.

Investigators suspect that Vasanth must have then entered the room on the ground floor, where later he was confronted by the victim.

In the ensuing attack, all the sisters were attacked and robbed of their jewellery and the house ransacked. The frail Chandra didnt survive the assault.

On Monday itself the police had taken into custody for questioning a close relative of Ramachandra and then had gone to the plumbers house. However, he had fled by then. A team has been sent to his native village in Tamil Nadu but the police refused to name the place.
