SageGlass – Ball State University – Gary Canaday – Video

SageGlass - Ball State University - Gary Canaday
The school wanted a skylight system that would preserve the open feeling of the space while reducing the glare and heat gain that made the area uncomfortable for students. SageGlass was installed with multiple zoning and intermediate-state capabilities, reducing the glare and heat while retaining the openness, creating a space where students now congregate in comfort. SageGlass enabled architects to incorporate more glass into the project without compromising on energy efficiency and a view to the outdoors for students. sageglass.comFrom:SAGEElectrochromicsViews:3 0ratingsTime:00:26More inScience Technology

Traces of Peter Rice, an Arup documentary
This new documentary film from Arup explores the life, career and legacy of Peter Rice, the celebrated RIBA Gold Medal-winning engineer who died 20 years ago this year. The film, which is available on Arup #39;s website (video.arup.com) and here on Arup #39;s YouTube channel, was commissioned as part of the #39;Traces of Peter Rice #39; exhibition currently on display at the Arup Phase 2 gallery in London. The film examines Peter #39;s approach to engineering and to design and shows how his way of working broadened the horizons for both engineers and architects in his lifetime, a legacy that is still relevant today. The film features interviews with many of those architects, designers and engineers he collaborated with, including Lord Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano, Sir Jack Zunz, Ian Ritchie, Martin Francis, Amanda Levete, Barbara Campbell-Lange, Michael Dowd, Andy Sedgwick, Tristram Carfrae, Bruce Danziger and Sophie Le Bourva. It also includes interviews with renowned opera director Humbert Camerlo; Professor Kevin Barry, who edited an accompanying book to the #39;Traces of Peter Rice #39; exhibition; Sylvia Rice, Peter #39;s widow; Professor Maurice Rice, Peter #39;s brother; and Kieran Rice, Peter #39;s son and Chairman of RFR Group. RFR is the Paris-based engineering consultancy that Peter formed in the early 1980s with Ian Ritchie and Martin Francis, to work on the ground-breaking Paris-based project, La Villette. MSBC Newman 12 11 12 QA – Video

    - December 14, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

    MSBC Newman 12 11 12 QA
On December 11, 2012 after the Newman Architect presentation that was almost identical to the one presented on December 4 to the Clinton Boards of Selectmen, Education and Finance after which no significant questions were asked by elected officials (available at: youtu.be citizens of Clinton asked the questions these elected officials lacked the interest or wit to ask. Selectman, Carol Walter who was not present on the 4th, had her opportunity at this meeting at 46 minutes into this recording. At last someone in authority is examining this without rose colored glasses. The people who favor this school are beginning to understand the bate and switch to which they are being subjected. That may be a sound strategy selling $500 kitchen appliances but it is outrageous when building a $64.75 million school. Richard Munday of Newman Architects, Jerry Vece, Chairman of the Morgan Building Committee and proprietor of Shoreline Appliance and Jack Cross, Clinton Superintendent of Schools attempt to deflect and defuse critical questions by those who both favor and oppose a new Morgan School.From:keyblokeViews:1 0ratingsTime:01:11:35More inNonprofits Activism

A Larger View of the World The First Decade of the Driehaus Prize, Extended Version – Video

A Larger View of the World The First Decade of the Driehaus Prize, Extended Version
Ten years ago, Chicago-based philanthropist and University of Notre Dame School of Architecture Dean Michael Lykoudis came together to create a prize that they felt was missing in the architecture world, a prize for classical architecture and traditional urbanism. Classical architecture and traditional urbanism represent a culture #39;s highest aspirations. The Richard H. Driehaus Prize at the University of Notre Dame was established to honor a living architect whose work embodies those principles in contemporary society. The Driehaus Prize has been presented annually since 2003 to architects representing various classical traditions, whose artistic impact reflects their commitment to cultural and environmental conservation. The first ten winners are Lon Krier, Demetri Porphyrios, Quinlan Terry, Allan Greenberg, Jaquelin Robertson, Andrs Duany, Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, Abdel-Wahed El-Wakil, Rafael Manzano Martos, Robert AM Stern, and Michael Graves.From:ARCHdotNDdotEDUViews:0 0ratingsTime:11:50More inEducation
