MOORESVILLE, N.C., Dec. 11, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- JDL Fast Track, an indoor track facility with flooring surfaces installed by Medallion Athletic Products, has been named Indoor Track Facility of the Year by the American Sports Builders Association. This marks the first time that a Medallion project has received the highest honor in an ASBA award category. The facility also took top honors for Indoor Track Facility in the Distinguished Track Facilities category.

"Medallion did a phenomenal job with our sports flooring installation," said Craig Longhurst of JDL Fast Track. "The project presented numerous challenges, including laying the sports surfaces around columns in the middle of the floor, ensuring that our use of three flooring products of different thicknesses didn't create tripping hazards, and meeting a very tight deadline. They handled every obstacle we gave them without issue."

Medallion Athletics Products is a leading supplier and installer of indoor and outdoor athletic and recreational surfaces in the southeastern United States. This marks the fourth consecutive year that installations by Medallion have been honored by ASBA. Three world records, four Olympic records, 64 national records, and a multitude of personal and season bests were set on Mondotrack during the 2012 London Olympic Games. ASBA, of which Medallion is a member, is the national organization for builders, designers and suppliers of materials for athletic facilities. Awards are presented each year to facilities built by ASBA members that best exemplify construction excellence. The 2012 awards were presented at the ASBA Technical Meeting in Orlando, Fla., last week. A panel of ASBA members anonymously judged entries. Projects were scored individually based on considerations such as layout and design, site work, drainage, base construction, surface, amenities, innovation and overall impression. Winning entries' cumulative scores met or exceeded the standard.
