PEABODY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Beacon Roofing Supply, Inc. (the Company) (BECN) announced results today for its fourth quarter and fiscal year ended September 30, 2012.
Paul Isabella, the Companys President and Chief Executive Officer, stated: We are very pleased with our record quarter and annual 2012 results, which exceeded our expectations. Our total sales benefited from the positive impact of acquisitions and from a 6% increase in existing market sales for the year. The adjusted fourth quarter net income exceeded last years adjusted net income, even though we were facing a very challenging comparison to last years fourth quarter, when there were substantial roofing activities from hail storms. Our gross margin continued to improve over the prior year, and our annual operating margin was significantly higher than in 2011. We are confident in the long-term growth opportunities available in our industry and are actively investing to realize those opportunities, such as with our most recent acquisition of McClure-Johnston.
Fourth Quarter
Total sales increased 3.9% to $598.1 million in 2012 from $575.6 million in 2011. Existing market (organic) sales, which exclude branches acquired after the beginning of last years fourth quarter, declined 5.6% (4.1% based on the same number of business days). In existing markets, residential and non-residential roofing product sales decreased 3.3% and 10.5%, respectively, while complementary product sales increased 1.2%. This years fourth quarter sales were primarily impacted by lower roofing activity in the markets affected by last years hail storms, partially offset by the benefit of slightly higher overall average selling prices.
Net income for the fourth quarter was $27.9 million compared to $31.3 million in 2011. Fourth quarter diluted net income per share was $0.58 compared to $0.67 in 2011. The lower net income was due primarily to a one-time income tax benefit of $5.1 million, or $0.11 diluted income per share, realized in 2011. The benefit in 2012 from the higher sales and gross margin rate and lower interest expense was partially offset by the impact from higher operating expenses compared to 2011. Earnings in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2012 were also impacted by the following items: a charge of $3.0 million ($1.8 million net of tax), or approximately $0.04 diluted earnings per share, for the recognition of termination benefits in operating expenses associated with an acquisition and the announced retirement of our CFO; and a benefit of $1.1 million ($0.7 million net of tax), or approximately $0.01 diluted earnings per share, for the recognition of the change in the fair value of certain interest rate derivatives in interest expense and other financing costs. Below is a recap of the calculation of our adjusted diluted income per share for the fourth quarter of this year and last year (in thousands except per share amounts):
EPS

Change in fair value of certain interest rate derivatives
The calculations of the adjusted diluted income and income per share for 2012 do not add down due to rounding.

Eight home addition remodels recently unveiled by Portland and Seattle remodeling contractor Hammer And Hand show eight unique approaches to adding value and utility to existing homes, from second story conversions to kitchen expansions to mudroom addition.
Seatte, WA (PRWEB) November 28, 2012
"Remodels are as unique as the clients who embark on them," said Hammer And Hand co-owner and CEO Daniel Thomas. "Each home represents a unique opportunity, and this new portfolio demonstrates how home addition design and construction responds in really diverse ways."
The eight projects showcased in Hammer And Hand's new home additions portfolio feature design work by eight independent architects and designers, demonstrating the efficacy of the "three-legged stool" approach to the design-build process in remodeling: collaboration between designer, builder, and client.
"We work with independent designers on every remodel we build," said Thomas, "so each of these projects is the result of intensive collaboration between the homeowner, the architect, and Hammer And Hand."
Three of the remodel projects are second-story additions, some of which double the household's space with new bedrooms, bathroom and other work and living space. Two feature master-suite additions that add square footage to the home to accommodate gracious master bedroom space. Another two involve small additions that allow a re-ordering of the home's interior and its indoor/outdoor connection. And the 936 House adds a playful modernist tower of light topped with a loft aerie to a historic Victorian home:
SECOND STORY ADDITIONS:
Alameda Bungalow three new bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs transform a modest 1924 home.
Tabor Addition a new master bedroom suite, kids bedroom and bathroom pay homage to Craftsman heritage.
Victorian Remodel two new bedrooms and a bathroom, built with upcycled wood and environmentally responsible materials, add historically-sensitive functionality.

What Is Search Engine Optimization?
http://www.samsonmedia.net Being in this business, sometimes I forget that not everyone knows what the term SEO means. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is the process of making a website more visable to the search engines which results in better and higher rankings. Better and higher rankings usually translates into more traffic to your website which in turn usually translates into higher sales. In short, it #39;s a good thing to have your site "optimized". As with most sales processes it #39;s basically a numbers game. The more calls you make the more leads you get the more sales you make. Same thing with SEO. The more people who come to your website from a search engine after doing a search where your listing comes up as one of the results, the better chance you have of converting that prospect into a paying customer or client. After all, the person was actively searching for the term that led them to your site, right? So you know they must be interested in what you offer, right? It #39;s a solid warm lead. The trick, of course, is being able to come up in those search results. So if you had a business as a general contractor named Joe #39;s Contracting who specialized in kitchen remodeling, when someone searched for "kitchen remodeling" you would want your website to come up, right. This isn #39;t about coming up if they searched for Joe #39;s Contracting, because that would mean they already know your business and are specifically looking for you, which ...From:samsonmedia123Views:3 0ratingsTime:03:40More inEducation
