Remodeled Roosevelt Avenue
Frustration is building in Detroit Lakes. Crews recently wrapped up a major makeover to Roosevelt Avenue, and now, it's time for people to pay up.
Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) - Frustration is building in Detroit Lakes. Crews recently wrapped up a major makeover to Roosevelt Avenue, and now, it's time for people to pay up.
People told me they think it's unfair. They say Roosevelt Avenue is a major thoroughfare, especially now, after the updates. Yet, the bill is their burden.
515 square feet. That's how much of Grace Lutheran's land backs up to Roosevelt Avenue.
Tom Lormis, Grace Lutheran Churc: "We don't even have a driveway connected."
Yet it owes $12,000 dollars for assessments. The church says it's been dealt a blow with the bill for Roosevelt's updates.
Lormis: "We use the road maybe 1/10 of what everybody else does. And they don't get charged for any assessments."
Roosevelt was updated this year with a new gravel base and asphalt. The smoother surface for drivers is boosting traffic.

Under new owners Healthy Food Concepts LLC, the Florida chain of fast-casual eateries has been experimenting with breakfast and small-plate fare in various locations. To date, only one store in The Villages near Ocala offers breakfast, and stores in Davenport, Brandon, Trinity and Tallahassee offer the slightly upscale menu featuring items like Thai chicken skewers and hot crab and artichoke dip. "It's been received well," said Lisa Hofstetter, Crispers marketing manager. "We're still just really testing it out." Crispers officials had indicated in January that most stores would offer an expanded menu by year's end.

Perhaps most noticeable to passers-by is the brand new display on the front of Bill Jacobs Plainfield's building. The faade has been completely updated with bright Chevrolet branding, which matches nicely with the themes and Chevy artwork you will see when walking into the showroom. From small details like new banners on the light posts, to a completely resurfaced lot for customers and inventory, the exterior of Bill Jacobs Plainfield is where you really see a new face. Customers will be impressed with the new look and as you can see in the photo, it is quite impressive.
A significant portion of the work that was done to Bill Jacobs Plainfield went into the renovated showroom, which now boasts even more room to display fantastic Chevrolet models. New track lighting makes the display floor a sight to see after dark. The management team wanted their customers to walk into "a gallery, not a garage," which is exactly how the new showroom feels. The facility was also outfitted with 14 new desks for sales consultants and managers, creating a comfortable and spacious place for customers to sit down and meet with all Bill Jacobs employees. A redesigned cashier and information window will direct customers where they need to go at any time. New offices for managers and specialized personnel were added on to the showroom as well, including one for the General Manager, Spiro Gousios, and another for Bill Jr.'s oldest son and the Bill Jacobs Auto Group's Community Relations Liaison, William "Trip" Jacobs.
All of the dealership's improvements were made with the customers in mind, which is why there was also a new Business Development Center put in place, in order to better handle Internet business. Customers will now have an even easier time finding vehicles online and submitting inquiries about specific cars from the comfort and convenience of their computer, tablet, or smart phone. The improvements also included renovated bathrooms with touchless Dyson hand dryers and a new cashier and customer concierge window.
One of the most significant improvements for shoppers though was the completely redesigned and updated service drive, staffed at all times to ensure minimal wait time for customers. The facility was rebuilt to ensure that customers would never find themselves waiting outside. Instead, vehicles needing service are now pulled into the service drive on the East side of the building, and a technician is assigned to the customer. When your car is being worked on, you can wait comfortably in the new customer waiting area, complete with children's play center and a brand new 40" television. Even the parts department was restyled by expanding the service window and adding an accessory display board. Finally, service drive offices were added so that each service advisor has his or her own space to better accommodate their customers for privacy and comfort.
