The Bees got revenge for a 78-66 January loss with a 55-46 decision to tie the Pioneers for oh-so-meaningless fourth place, but stumbled into the postseason with a loss to doormat Strongsville.

Meanwhile, the Pioneers had a little but not much momentum after hanging tough in an eight-point loss to Garfield Heights.

Flash forward one month and the stakes couldnt be much higher for two schools whose identities have changed drastically.

Medina (9-15) and Elyria (14-9) will clash tonight in an unlikely Division I regional semifinal at the University of Akrons James A. Rhodes Arena, the high school home of LeBron James. The winner will face Toledo Whitmer, which handed Norwalk its first loss of the season, on Saturday for a ticket to Columbus.

Youre going to see two different ball teams than what you saw in the regular season, Bees coach Anthony Stacey said. Were playing with so much more confidence and our defense has been so much better here the last few weeks. We havent given up a 20-point quarter since Strongsville in the first quarter. Our defense has been really, really good.

The Bees have been transformed with the return of Michigan State recruit Kenny Kaminski, while the emergence of Isaiah Walton has given the Pioneers a third wheel to complement sweet-shooting Kody Bender and center Anthoni Horton.

Theyre really athletic and they can rebound the ball really well, Billy Geschke said. We need good transition defense. They get down the floor really quickly they have quick guards and the big men you have to box out on a lot. Our offense will go through our defense.

Boys basketball: Bees, Pioneers are now playing with full decks

Facility serves North Hampton State Beach

HAMPTON Residents voted Tuesday to allow the state Division of Parks and Recreation to connect a facility to the town's sewer system, paving the way for a new bathhouse at North Hampton State Beach.

Hampton warrant Article 19 passed, 2,611-596.

If all goes as planned, the new $450,000 bathhouse would be operational by summer 2013.

The septic system for the current bathrooms failed years ago, and it was replaced with a holding tank that had to be emptied so frequently that the state was forced at one point to close the bathrooms and use portable toilets. The new bathhouse would have three urinals and two toilets for men, and five toilets for women. It would also house a family restroom.

State Sen. Nancy Stiles, R-Hampton, urged voters to support the article, calling the sewer connection critical for North Hampton State Beach. If the state was not allowed to connect to the town's sewer system, the plan would have been to instead install composting toilets. Stiles said she worked to bring the state, North Hampton, Hampton and Rye together on the project because she opposed the idea of composting toilets.

Rye is involved because one of its sewer pipes, which runs through North Hampton to Hampton, would be used to make the connection. Hampton already provides sewer service to more than 500 homes and businesses in Rye, based on a 1989 agreement. Hampton selectmen backed Article 19, saying it wouldn't cost taxpayers a dime.

Per the agreement signed by the towns and the state, the town will bill Rye per gallon, under terms of the 1989 pact, and will share capital expenses. The flow from the North Hampton State Beach bathhouse will be metered, and Rye will bill the state.

Tom Mansfield, an architect with the state Department of Resources and Economic Development, said the state plans to begin construction of a pumping station at the North Hampton site soon, with the laying of new plumbing in the spring. Work would stop for the summer so patrons could use the existing bathhouse, which will be demolished in the fall.

Mansfield estimated 50,000 gallons of wastewater per season would enter the Hampton system through the North Hampton connection the equivalent of wastewater generated in one three-bedroom house.

Ashburn Porch Builder Shares Insight into why Screened Porches are Making a Big Comeback

St. Matthew Lutheran Church is beginning a $1.3 million construction project that could take several years to complete.

The project at the 90-year-old Hanover church is divided into two phases, and construction for the first phase started Tuesday, Pastor Dan Yeiser said. The work is being done for safety reasons and to keep the building on Chestnut Street in good shape.

"We're just trying to preserve and enhance it for ourselves and for future generations that pass through the hallways," Yeiser said.

The first phase includes restoration of the north side of the tower, which started Tuesday with the erection of scaffolding. Yeiser said that work could take two weeks to complete.

The construction will not interrupt any services at the church.

The last time the church received renovations was in 2000, and that was mostly for the interior, Yeiser said.

Hanover church begins restoration

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCIV) -- Five months after a Georgetown church was destroyed by fire, members broke ground on a new building to be located on High Market Street.

"This is an enjoyable day for us to have a groundbreaking and to have our new church being built," said excited church member, Terry Fulton.

Janette Graham, a long time Georgetown native who lives by the location of the new church, agrees.

"It's wonderful. It's really nice," she said.

Last October, a fire destroyed their original building located on Winyah Street. Ever since, members have held service at neighboring church, Duncan Memorial United Methodist.

"They have a little chapel that we're using," said Fulton.

The new church will sit just blocks away from the original site. According to the church's pastor, the total price tag for the land and building adds up to $1.8 million dollars.

"The church is going to be 20,000 square feet--the church and the family life center. And we're going to have parking all around, a walking trail," said Rev. Carl Anderson.

Anderson says construction is expected to begin March 20th on the 3.1 acres of land.

It's been called Grand Designs meets Scrapheap Challenge.

But for me it's more like what could have happened if Stig of the Dump or Uncle Bulgaria had been ministers of the Kirk.

Colston Milton Parish Church is fund-raising, to put up a new building and community centre. Nothing too unusual about that, you may think. But it's going to be built of recycled rubbish.

To be specific: four tonnes of beer cans; a dozen redundant shipping containers; 300 industrial pallets; and 500 used car tyres.

But they're starting small.

There's something deeply right that in God's economy nothing - from people, to time, to materials, to resources - is wasted

Work is starting on the first building that'll go up on the site - an "energy awareness hub".

It'll be based in two containers - the sort of thing that's used to ship goods around the word.

They've reached the end of their useful life, and were due to go for scrap. But they're finding a new life - perhaps been born again? - hosting a small exhibition on how to reduce your carbon footprint.

Building Glasgow's rubbish church

Once a developers white-box condominium, this former carriage house was transformed by Boston Interior Designers Wilson Kelsey Design into an award-winning, French inspired Villa with European panache.

One would imagine that a carriage house of this era would hold, at least to some degree, historic and beautiful architectural details. However, this was not the case. All of the homes architectural features - moldings, millwork, cabinetry, fireplace, etc. were designed by Wilson Kelsey Design. When the homeowners described their inclination towards French design, I referenced pictures of Versailles and used their inspiration to design scaled-back solutions that would mesh with modern living, says interior design partner John Kelsey. And because most New England stock millwork profiles are Colonial, Kelsey had to find resources who would fabricate European details.

Features within the transformed home include an authentically styled French Country kitchen with exposed brick walls, shutters, and custom cabinetry and millwork reminiscent of antique furnishings and cupboards. The client wanted the feeling of a large European country kitchen with many amenities so that the family would want to cook and spend time there. A custom built-in sofa was designed to face the new gas fireplace, and encourage lingering at the table. The owner instructed the designers to hide all the technology.Two antique chandeliers, one from Newport, RI and the other from Charleston, SC, contribute to the old world feeling that the client wanted.

The living area is a stunning French-style salon furnished with a collection of new upholstery and antiques, a newly designed but centuries old-looking cast stone fireplace, French style paneling, intricate plaster crown moldings, and an ornamental ceiling. A collection of 18th and 19th Century antiques were acquired to add warmth and character. Antique lighting, antique architectural prints, paintings, and a wall-sized antique tapestry adorn the spaces. They are quite happy here, notes Sally, They love the rich paneling and detailed moldings, complemented with Directoire and Regency furniture, gilded mirrors, Italian crystal and metal chandeliers, tapestries, and defining millwork. Here, finally, they feel at home. As a reminder of the home's ancestry, Wilson Kelsey discovered the original blueprint for the carriage house/stable, and had it digitally re-mastered and framed for display in the new kitchen dining area. It shows a carriage room, cow stalls, horse stalls, hay area, carriage washing bay, auto washing bay, harness room, and grooms room.

The renovation of this home has garnered Wilson Kelsey Design over ten regional and national design awards including The Institute of Classical Architecture and Classical America New Englands 2011 award for Best Residential Interior Design and Interior Renovation. As is tradition, the two heads of state exchanged ceremonial gifts, but Mr Obama was sure to make his one that brought out the Eton-educated Prime Minister's masculine side.

He gave Mr Cameron a custom-designed speciality barbeque grill that is both steeped in symbolism and kitted out with capabilities that a gourmet chef would appreciate.

Obama gives David Cameron a $2,000 barbecue grill to commemorate US visit

The Marple Commissioners voted 6-0, Monday night, to approve Phase II of Ravenscliff, which will add 29 townhomes to the 23 under construction on Old Marple Road.

The development, built by The Benson Companies, is on the 34.8-acre parcel formerly owned by Pulte Homes. Benson is using the same plan approved for Pulte, but building in a gradual manner, and the first two portions are adhering to the original drawings.

The community will be constructed in three segments and the work thus far has involved the installation of public water and sewer lines, storm water lines, interior roads and curbing needed for the first stage and in preparation for subsequent portions.

The resolution for Phase II included the adherence to the environmental issues highlighted by Crum Creek Neighbors. In a letter to the Commissioners last year, the organization expressed appreciation for the townships support in monitoring the activities, assuring the construction followed required procedures and enforcing the code.

The final segment was originally approved as 160 condominiums in four buildings, but the plans may change to a greater emphasis on carriage houses. Similar to Phase II, the company will be required to return to the board for approval of the remaining portion of the development.

The public forum included comments from John Butler (Pond House, plans for the safety center, seasonal labor, Beatty Hills sewer project, committee agendas on township website).
