Isle of Wight electrical business, ETL Electrical Solutions Ltd, are one of many local firms returning to work but it is not business as usual after lockdown
This Island-based business of more than 15 years, with a further 20 years of experience on the mainland, are putting in extra guidelines and training for their staff before returning to their full service of commercial and domestic electrical installations.
ETL Electrical Solutions have been actively working to keep the Islands lights on, even throughout lockdown, as they provided emergency cover for frontline staff across the Isle of Wight.
In the run-up to returning to full service, the ETL Electrical team have been undergoing extra training, from online to in-person, socially distanced learning to prepare for working inside of peoples homes in the aftermath of COVID-19.
The team are used to working on sites, big or small, from fitting a light fixture in someones home, to fully wiring a marina However, working in personal protective equipment (PPE) such as full facial masks and even paper suits for the most vulnerable clients can be a tricky task. The training and guidelines being set out by Graeme and his team, outline the full process from picking up the booking to closing the job when completed safely!
ETL Electrical have already completed specific COVID-19 safe working training through an online learning platform so that they understand what is required. The team have also been working with local training business, Jigsaw Training and Development Service, learning about mental health in the workplace.
Graeme Preston, owner of ETL Electrical, says:
Keeping our staff and our customers safe as we move out of lockdown is our number one priority.
Mental health is something that we all have, we all deal with it in different ways and going back to work or coming into a socially distanced contact with people within their homes after weeks of being in lockdown can be challenging. Thats why we wanted to raise the topic before sending our team back to work.
Along with the training and the PPE that each team member is being provided with, steps such as arriving at jobs in separate vans, ensuring a safe working area, wiping down of surfaces after the work has been completed and rebooking of any jobs to a later date have been undertaken.
A full list of the ETL Electrical Solution COVID-19 Safe Working Guidelines can be found on the ETL website at https://www.etl-electrical-solutions.co.uk/.

TOMORROW, A RANGE of free arts events and workshops for children and teenagers is kicking off to propel students into arts, crafts and music by asking them to give creativity a go.
Cruinnina ng which is usually a Dublin-focused initiative is hosting its events online this year, meaning that children from across Ireland can join in.
To add to that, organisers have decided to leave all but one of its 27 events, tutorials, videos and guides online for the entire summer a resource much-needed by parents.
Margarita Cappock, an Assistant Arts Officer at Dublin City Council, told TheJournal.ie that artists usually submit ideas for what activities they can do for children and teens this year they had to tweak these pitches in order to move them all online.
The amount of goodwill and can-do from all the artists and organisations has been absolutely brilliant, she said. Some of them have turned out just really so well.
It means children from outside Dublin may join in, and its a system they might keep on after the pandemic.

Among the events she highlights are:
No news is bad newsSupport The Journal
Your contributions will help us continueto deliver the stories that are important to you

When asked what the aim of the festival is, Cappock says: We just want to really encourage people to make, and to create whether its writing or performing, or just enjoying the virtual visits to various places, or the workshops.
I think that it really is just to provide a wide range of events and activities for everybody, so there will be something for every child.
I think the great thing about it, in particular Tunes from Me Gaff, is to give teenagers the opportunity to actually perform and have their work streamed like that. Its very confidence inspiring, I think its a great opportunity also to make connections with like-minded teenagers.
You can view the full list of events on Fingal County Councilhere, or on the Cruinni na ng websitehere.

WINDSOR, ONT. -- Windsor-Essex residents and city crews were dealing with the aftermath of severe storms that moved through the region Wednesday evening, causing downed trees, power lines and damage to some homes.
Here's a photo gallery of the storm and aftermath.
Windsor Fire and Rescue says it attended to over 30 calls, many of them in south Windsor, with many trees and branches down, pulling down power wires with them.
There were no documented injuries as a result of the storm, civilian or firefighter, says John Lee, chief fire prevention officer. There was one accident on Huron Church as a result of the storm.
Windsor fire activated their storm protocol.
Because theres so many calls in different areas at the same time we reduce our man power to each call so we will only send one vehicle and well upgrade if necessary, says Lee.
The line of severe storms came following several days of humidity and heat.East of Windsor the storms produced two tornados in the London region.
One near the community of Glencoe, southwest of London, and the other near Belmont to the southwest. A third possible tornado was being investigated near Bothwell.
Meanwhile thousands were without power Thursday morning across southwestern and southern Ontario.
Enwin Utilities says locally the storm resulted in 27 calls about tree limbs on wires, 22 calls for wires down, and three poles damaged.
The majority of the damage was in the west and south ends of the city, but there was some further activity in Walkerville.
Most power was restored by 7:30 a.m., but crews remained on site during the day, to finish the longer-term restorations.
As far as city cleanup, forestry says by the end of the Thursday or late Friday morning, all critical cleanup will be completed, such as trees off porches, driveways, road and walkways.
City officials say it could take a solid week or more to attend to the rest of the less critical issues. There were 70 calls for down tree branches, but no calls for flooded basements.
Many residents were also cleaning up on Thursday.
We have neighbours helping everybody get the branches off the street, says Mary Arbor, a downtown Windsor resident.
When Arbor saw the storm coming, she told her sister they have to go to the basement.
I looked out the window, the wind was coming straight down with branches, adds Arbor.
Jeff, another downtown Windsor resident, says a big tree hit a house.
This used to be a big beautiful tall tree he says. It just lifted right up and hit the corner of her house and fell.

Residents of Fort Hood Family Housing, operated by Lendlease LLC, received an update Friday, on summertime projects and improvements to on-post housing areas.
Among the home improvement projects underway, Lendlease noted in a press release Friday that it has replaced over 750 roofs throughout multiple neighborhoods and is scheduled to replace over 250 shingle roofs in the next eight months.
Additionally, the release stated there are more than 1,500 heating and cooling system replacements in progress, with more than 50 percent completed to date. Additionally, there are various upgrades and improvements to almost 300 homes in legacy Comanche III Village to include HVAC and appliance replacements, new front, interior and sliding glass doors, plumbing and lighting fixture updates, new vinyl tile bathrooms, kitchen and utility rooms, and carpet flooring in bedrooms.
We are committed to providing safe and healthy homes where our families can live, work and thrive, and these projects exemplify how we continue to do so in a proactive, thoughtful way, Chris Albus, project director for Fort Hood Family Housing, who is also an Army retiree, said. Should residents have any questions about any of the activity in their community, they are encouraged to reach out to our community managers or myself who will be more than happy to assist.
According to Fridays release, the Army approved a new exterior project to repair roofing and stucco/stone siding in four neighborhood villages: Comanche II, Comanche III East and West, Kouma II and III, and Montague III and IV.
This work is being necessitated due to the age of certain homes and a corresponding potential water intrusion, which FHFH swiftly and proactively identified and has been working diligently to investigate, the release stated. We have been able to isolate and identify potential issues requiring attention and have prepared a detailed plan to address and repair the impacted homes.
This work, fully funded from FHFHs capital re-investment account, will begin this month and is expected to last approximately 15 months.
While all FHFH residents received a status update regarding all ongoing projects via email June 5, those residents directly impacted by the improvement projects received a second email providing additional details.
Furthermore, residents who will receive work on their home will be notified two-weeks prior to work commencing, and again, 48 hours before work commences, the Lendlease release stated.
A website, https://www.forthoodfh.com/exterior-home-repairs, has been established to communicate with Fort Hood residents regarding the scope of work, responses to frequently asked questions and maps showing impacted areas.
According to Lendlease, the work is being performed by a qualified third-party company with oversight by a FHFH project management team, along with the Armys Directorate of Public Works and a third-party, independent architectural, engineering and building science firm. Resident health is not a risk while work is being performed, as confirmed by third-party health consultants.

The campus is in for another busy summer of hammers, cranes and drills as many university projects take shape, said Brian Larson, UNDs director of construction management.
Montgomery Hall, located between the Chester Fritz Library and Gamble Hall, was torn down a couple of weeks ago to make room for the universitys new business school, the Nistler College of Business and Public Administration.
In the coming weeks, the old UND steam plant will transfer power over to the new building located on the southwest side of campus.
Removal of the old steam plant will take some time, according to Larson, adding that work is set to start toward the end of June or beginning of July. He said crews have been working for several months to prepare for the demolition, which will extend well into the fall semester with a road closure. A large crane will be on campus to take apart the stackhouse and other big elements of the building, he said.
It shows a lot of progress here on our campus, Larson said of the project.

The old plant will be replaced with a parking lot thats closer to the core campus buildings. There also will be a realignment of the road near the steam plant, so people will no longer have to cross the street to get to class, he said.
Work is also beginning on Carnegie Hall. Crews have begun removing the two additions on the south side of the original building and then restore the building exterior to its original footprint. Masonry restoration, window replacement, roof replacement and building accessibility will all be addressed with this upcoming project. Interior renovations will follow in a second phase of the project, Larson said.
When the project is completed, in about another year, it will be used as office space.
The Chester Fritz Library, which has been under renovation for more than a year, is also taking shape. Work has been done to the north entrance of the building with a new staircase as well as other upgrades aiming to improve the circulation within the building.

New windows and a new sprinkler system are being installed. There are also renovations being made to the quiet study area in the library.
Progress is also being made on the new Memorial Union building as crews hope to have much of the exterior work wrapped up before winter before turning to the interior of the new building.

This project is going very well, Larson said. They worked hard all through the winter, no stops and pushed all the way through. Now, we're in a really good place here in the early summer to get this building buttoned up, and we can finish the inside next winter.
Work on the Gershman Graduate Center, the old president's home, is also ongoing. Behind the building there will be a patio and grassy area for students to use when it's nice out.

Two spacewalks are set to continue upgrading power systems at the International Space Station at the end of the month. The Expedition 63 crew is getting ready for the summer excursions while also researching a variety of space phenomena to benefit Earth and space industries.
Two NASA astronauts will exit the orbital lab on June 26 and July 1 to continue replacing batteries that store and distribute power collected from the solar arrays. They will work on the outer portion of the truss structure, or the Starboard-6 truss, disconnecting and removing the old nickel hydrogen batteries. Following that, new lithium-ion batteries will be installed in their place and powered up by mission controllers on the ground.
The two spacewalkers are following up on the battery swap work that begun last year and continued into January. The complex repair job has been taking place on both the starboard and port sides of the stations truss structure. That is where the basketball court-sized solar arrays are located. The solar arrays slowly rotate around the truss structure and track the sun but are locked into place during the spacewalks.
Station Commander Chris Cassidy and Flight Engineer Bob Behnken spent the morning resizing U.S. spacesuits before splitting up for a variety of science activities. Cassidy spent the rest of the day configuring the new Spectrum imager that will view the cellular growth of plants in multiple wavelengths. Behnken continued more space bubbles research to promote advanced oxygen and medicine delivery systems.
NASA Flight Engineer Doug Hurley started Thursday on life support maintenance before continuing to unpack Japans HTV-9 resupply ship in the afternoon. The two cosmonauts, Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner, spread out in the stations Russian segment focusing on life support maintenance, window inspections and Earth atmospheric studies.
