Four Parts:Applying Feng Shui to Your BedAvoiding Negative EnergyCreating Balance Through ColorsMaking Other ConsiderationsCommunity Q&A
The ancient Chinese method of Feng Shui helps us to balance our homes and create happier, more successful lives, room by room. We often turn our attention to the bedroom, the sanctuary where we can rest and recharge. Having the proper Feng Shui in the bedroom can help your romantic life as well as your ability to rest and to feel in control. You have to know how to keep the chi flowing, and how to deflect any negative energy that may enter your room -- and your life. If you want to know how to Feng Shui your bedroom, just see Step 1 to get started.
Part 1
1
Have a solid headboard. The best Feng Shui headboards are the ones that are solid and made from wood, or the upholstered ones, as they have a very good combination of solid, but also gentle and supporting Feng Shui energy for you and your bedroom. While you are drifting off to sleep, your body is going into an extra busy energy repair work on many levels. Subconsciously, your head needs good backing, protection and support, just like your back needs it when you are sitting in a chair for extended periods of time.
2
Get a supportive mattress. There are a variety of mattresses on the market, choose wisely and invest in the one that will promote best sleep and relaxation. The better you sleep at night, the better your health during the day, this is really simple. Be mindful of good Feng Shui and do not buy used mattresses - you never know what energy they have accumulated from previous owners.
3
Make sure the bed is a good height. To allow for a balanced Feng Shui energy flow under the bed, you need to have your bed at a reasonable height above the floor level. Generally, the beds that have built-in storage drawers underneath to help you with storage solutions are considered bad Feng Shui beds. Why? Because the energy needs to circulate around your body when you sleep, which is not possible if the space underneath the bed is blocked.
4
5
Have a good supporting wall behind your bed. In addition to a good headboard, you always want to have a solid wall behind your bed. When you sleep under the window, your personal energy tends to get weaker in time, as it has neither proper support, nor protection.
6
7
Keep your bed far away from any TVs, desks, or other distractions. Ideally, you should move your desk and television out of your bedroom, so the bedroom truly becomes a place where you can rest and relax. However, we all have limited space, so if you do have a television or a desk in your room, position it as far from your bed as possible to not get in the way of the bed's positive energy. If you can, drape a light scarf or blanket over the TV or desk, or even cover it up with a Japanese folding closet to create even more space.
Part 2
1
Avoid a mirror that faces your bed or a mirrored set of closet doors. If these mirrors are fixtures that you can't get rid of, then drape some fabric over them. Left exposed, they are thought to disturb your sleep. In general, you should avoid having mirrors in your bedroom, especially if you're sharing it with a romantic partner, because they may open up a space for infidelity. Mirrors are also too energetic for such a restful space.
2
Refrain from positioning your bed directly under a beam. A beam may create feelings of pressure that can disrupt your sleep. If you have no other options, cover the beam with fabric or hang 2 bamboo flutes from the beam with the mouthpieces pointed downward. This will help block some of the unwanted energy coming from above the bed. The idea is that you don't want to feel threatened in your sleep.
3
Skip fountains and water features. Also, don't hang up pictures of water or place an aquarium in your room. These could invite possible financial loss or robbery. Keep your fish tank or paintings of water or rivers out of the bedroom if you want to have the best possible Feng Shui.
4
5
Avoid accumulating clutter around your bed or pushing one side of your bed against a wall. The Chi can't circulate, which means possible disturbances in your intimate life. If your bed is up against a wall, then one partner will have to sleep on the inside, becoming literally "trapped" in the relationship.
6
Get rid of your television. Television creates an unhealthy magnetic field which may disrupt your sleep, strain your relationship with your partner or bring a third party into the bedroom. If you have to keep it in the bedroom, then try to cover it with a scarf when you're not using it. If you're really serious about it, hide the TV in the closet when you're not using it, or place it on a shelf that can lock up, hiding the TV when it's not in use.
7
Part 3
1
2
3
4
Part 4
1
2
3
Be aware of the position of the windows. If you can, try to avoid placing your bed between the window and a door, or you'll be in the middle of the "draught" of chi running between these two places. If you can't avoid it, just make sure you have nice, pleasant curtains to block some of the bad energy. You should also avoid sleeping facing the window, if you can, or your sleep won't be as restful.
4
5
Aim for equality. Try to have equal space on either side of your bed and other furniture. A person should be able to walk around as easily around one side of the room as the other, within reason. Of course, a piece of furniture may add some inequality, but in general, you should avoid letting most of the stuff in the bedroom clutter over to one side, or you'll create discord in your most important room.
6
Get rid of clothes you no longer wear. Go through your closet and drawer and remove all of the clothes you haven't worn within the last year. Donate these clothes or pass them on to a friend or relative if they can still be worn. Even though you may not see the old clothes, keeping them in your bedroom may prevent you from embracing new opportunities.
7
8
Make sure your bedroom isn't too crowded. Keep your bedroom as spare and simple as possible. Don't add extra chairs, lamps, or pictures to your bedroom if you're not sure whether or not they are really necessary. The more stuff you have in there, the more difficult it may be to find balance.
9
Get rid of any clutter. To have optimal Feng Shui in your bedroom, you have to get rid of any extra papers, trash, old trinkets, silly photos, useless gifts, or really just anything you don't really need in there. If you have too much sentimental attachment to some of the items, you can put them in storage or another room, but work on minimizing the stuff you really need in your bedroom. Having a spare and uncluttered bedroom will lead to an uncluttered and fulfilling life.
What should I do if I have windows on two of the bedroom walls?
wikiHow Contributor
You can get yourself some nice curtains, and decorate around the windows accordingly.
Can I have a mirror above the headboard of my bed?
wikiHow Contributor
No, that creates a very strong negative energy and you won't be able to sleep well.
How do I arrange the nine areas of a bedroom so that the focus is on the love corner?
wikiHow Contributor
Declutter the area. Place red or fire element colors there. Add a painting/picture of a couple or animals or something that makes you feel love. Also, pair things, i.e. 2 pillows instead of 1 or 3, 2 candles or nightstands instead of 1, etc.
If I have to choose between placing the bed on a metal bed frame or directly on the floor, which is typically the wiser decision?
wikiHow Contributor
I would say to keep your bed off the floor on a metal frame. Even though the frame is solid, you will still have energy flow underneath your bed, unlike if you left it either without a backboard or on the floor.
I have a beam above my bed and two doors, one we use and one that remains closed. What should I do? And, my room is light purple. Should I change it?
wikiHow Contributor
Treat the door you don't use as a wall (like it's not there) and move your bed accordingly if possible. Light purple isn't bad but bring in other colors to help bring balance like yellow and dark purple accents with silver fixtures.
If I have two doors in my bedroom, can I put my bed in front of one of the doors?
wikiHow Contributor
If you won't be using that door, then yes you can. Also, if your family is okay with it, you could consider getting the door removed.
I have two doors in my apartment and mainly use the back door as a front door, so which is my main door?
wikiHow Contributor
The door that you actually use (in this case, your back door) should be treated as a "front door."
What can I place in a room to avoid negative energy from mirrors?
wikiHow Contributor
Place the mirror so that it doesn't face your bed, such as placing it on the other side of the same wall that your bedhead rests against. You can hide the mirror as well, such as throwing a cloth over it or, if it's on a dressing stand, flipping it around to face the wall during sleep. Inside a closet door that gets shut is another good place for it.
My bed will only fit under the window. What should I do now?
wikiHow Contributor
This is the same issue I have. I don't think its a massive deal -- just make sure you have blinds/curtains to stop the light disturbing your sleep. Ultimately, your room is supposed to be like a sanctuary, free from distractions and free from chaos. I think this can still be achieved, despite the location of the bed.
My bed is on the opposite side of my room, which is very small. I can only fit one night stand, as I have cupboards on the left hand side of my room. Are the cupboards a problem?
wikiHow Contributor
Ultimately, if your room is quite small, it's important to utilise the space you have -- and without over-packing it with furniture. Keep in mind, minimalism is key. Are these cupboards for clothing? How much do you really need the night stand? More storage sometimes tempts people to get extra things. If the cupboards are for clothing, and you have very little floor space, then I'm tempted to say ditch the bedside table.

When it comes to fencing there are hundreds of different kinds of fences made of different types of materials that serve specific purposes. When you factor in all the different styles of fences and functions as well there are truly limitless amounts of fencing options available. Below is a list of 20 different types of fences and a little bit of information about them.
This is an aluminum fence. Aluminum fencing is strong, durable and mostly maintenance free. It works great for enclosing a swimming pool area.
Aluminum fencing comes in different styles and different heights. It also works great as a property border to fence in a backyard. Its strong enough that pets wont chew threw it.
This is a picture of a bamboo privacy fence. Most often, bamboo fencing comes in rolled panels and each bamboo pole is tied tight to the next one, creating a solid wall for privacy.
Bamboo fencing comes in artificial panels or natural bamboo panels in various different colors ranging from light to dark. Bamboo fences add beauty to any backyard or landscape.
This is a photo of a chainlink fence. These are often used at parks, baseball and softball fields and around powerplants and city properties.
Chainlink fencing is strong and durable yet less expensive than other metal fences. It comes in different grades and can be coated. Vinyl coated chain link fencing typically comes in green or black.
This is a photo of an electric fence. Electric fences come in different options using different types of hot wire. The one shown also has a strand of barbed wire fence at the bottom. Electric fences are typically used by farmers to keep livestock such as cattle inside a field.
Electric fence and hot wire fencing is typically easy to install and easy to repair. Its considered an inexpensive fence compared to other types of fencing that serve similar purposes.
Heres a picture of a beautiful flower garden fence. Garden fences come in many forms but are typically made from wood or vinyl.
Historically, most horse fences were wooden fences. But in recent years a lot of white vinyl horse fencing has surfaced as well. Wooden fences are cheaper than vinyl but they require upkeep, repair and painting whereas vinyl fences do not.
Heres a photo of a beautiful horse behind a four board black wooden horse fence.
Iron fencing has timeless beauty. It comes in many different styles and shapes. Wrought iron fences and ornamental iron fences are strong, durable and add safety and security to a property.
Heres a picture of an iron fence between tall brick columns with concrete column caps.
Heres a photo of a metal fence with a gate. Metal fencing is durable but often requires painting over time. It can also rust over time.
Heres a picture of a black metal yard fence separating two lawns.
Heres a picture of a beautiful white picket fence. The white picket fence is the symbol of the American dream. A picket fence with pretty landscaping can make any house look lovely.
Picket fencing can also be used as a border around yards. Picket fences are usually made of wood or of white vinyl pvc.
Privacy fencing used to be predominantly wooden, but vinyl and plastic has become a big trend in recent years. This pic is of a beautiful plastic backyard privacy fence.
Plastic fences dont require painting and are virtually maintenance free. They make excellent privacy fences enclosing swimming pool areas.
There are many different kinds of swimming pool fences. Some are for privacy purposes and some are for safety purposes. This is a metal safety fence.
Heres another swimming pool safety fence to keep children and uninvited guests out of the pool area.
Heres a picture of a beautiful wooden privacy fence, stained and water sealed.
Heres another picture of a common wooden privacy fence. These are typically tall with the boards touching each other so people cant see inside.

Every year, before the first freeze, the ritual of irrigation "blow out" becomes the priority for all irrigation systems in regions located where the frost level extends below the depth of installed piping.
Even if you have drained the water out of your irrigation system, some water remains and can freeze, expand, and crack PVC piping (rigid, white pipe).Polyethylene pipe (flexible, black pipe) is used in many freezing climates. Although polyethylene pipe is more flexible and can expand under pressure, water left inside can freeze and rupture the pipe walls. Freezing water in the backflow assembly will damage the internal components and can crack the brass body.
To minimize the risk of freeze damage, you'll need to winterize your irrigation system. In areas where winterization is mandatory, irrigation systems are installed using one of three types of water removal: manual drain, auto drain, or blowout. If you don't know your system type, it is best to use the blowout method.
Use the manual drain method when manual valves are located at the end and low points of the irrigation piping. To drain these systems, simply shut off the irrigation water supply and open all the manual drain valves.
Once the water has drained out of the mainline, open the boiler drain valve or the drain cap on the stop and waste valve (whichever is used in your area) and drain all the remaining water that is between the irrigation water shut off valve and the backflow device. Open the test cocks on the backflow device. If your sprinklers have check valves, you'll need to pull up on the sprinklers to allow the water to drain out of the bottom of the sprinkler body. Depending on the location of the drain valves, there could be some water left in the backflow, the piping, and the sprinklers. When all the water has drained out, close all the manual drain valves.
Use this method when automatic drain valves are located at the end and low points of the irrigation piping. These will automatically open and drain water if the pressure in the piping is less than 10 PSI. To activate these, shut off the irrigation water supply (shut off will be located in the basement and will be either a gate/globe valve, ball valve, or stop and waste valve - see drawings below) and activate a station to relieve the system pressure.
Once the water has drained out of the mainline, open the boiler drain valve or the drain cap on the stop and waste valve (whichever is used in your area) and drain the remaining water that is between the irrigation water shut off valve and the backflow device. Open the test cocks on the backflow device. If your sprinklers have check valves you'll need to pull up on the sprinklers to allow the water to drain out the bottom of the sprinkler body. Depending on the location of the drain valves, there could be some water left in the backflow, the piping, and the sprinklers.
In some areas you might have a combination of the manual drain system on the mainline (the pipe between the irrigation water shut off valve and the valves) and auto drain system on the lateral lines (the pipe between the valves and the sprinklers).
Blow out on a spray
Blow out on a rotor
Flow sensors can potentially be damaged by winterization blow out techniques, and should be removed prior to injecting compressed air into the pipes.
Save and use the blank plug(P/N 536100) supplied with Hunter FCT fittings to replace the sensor, and seal the pipe during winterization.
More information
WARNING! Wear ANSI-approved safety eye protection! Extreme care must always be taken when blowing out an irrigation system with compressed air. Compressed air can cause serious injury, including serious eye injury, from flying debris. Always wear ANSI approved safety eye protection and do not stand over any irrigation components (pipes, sprinklers, and valves) during air blow out. Serious personal injury may result if you do not proceed as recommended! It is best for a qualified licensed contractor to perform this type of winterization method.
The blow out method utilizes an air compressor with a Cubic Foot per Minute (CFM) rating of 80-100 for any mainline of 2" or less. These types of compressors can be rented at your local equipment rental yard. Caution: a small shop compressor (1-3 HP) will not have enough "free" air to properly winterize the system. Do not attempt to fully charge the holding tank then release the highly-pressurized air flow into the mainline to compensate for the compressor's lack of CFM.The compressor is attached to the mainline via a quick coupler, hose bib or other type connection, which is located after the backflow device. Compressed air should not be blown through any backflow device. To start the blow out, shut off the irrigation water supply and, with the compressor valve in the closed position, attach the air compressor hose to the fitting. Activate the station on the controller that is the zone or sprinklers highest in elevation and the furthest from the compressor. Close the backflow isolation valves. Then slowly open the valve on the compressor; this should gradually introduce air into the irrigation system. The blow out pressure should remain below the maximum operating pressure specification of the lowest pressure rated component on that zone and should NEVER exceed 80 PSI.
Each station/zone should be activated starting from the furthest station/zone from the compressor, slowly working your way to the closest station/zone to the compressor. Each station/zone should be activated until no water can be seen exiting the heads; this should take approximately two minutes or more per station/zone. It is better to use two or three short cycles per station/zone than to have one long cycle. Once the station/zone is dry, you should not continue to blow air through the pipe. Compressed air moving through dry pipes can cause friction, which will create heat and could cause damage. Never run the compressor without at least one irrigation control valve open.
Once the water has been removed from the irrigation system, disconnect the air compressor and release any air pressure that may be present. If your backflow device (the most common backflow installed is called a Pressure Vacuum Breaker) has ball valves, open and close the isolation valves on the backflow device numerous times to ensure that any trapped water has escaped from the upper areas. Leave the isolation valves open at a 45 angle (approximately 1/2 open) and open the test cocks.
Shut off the water supply to the signal control tube(s) and drain the field tubing.
Leave the power on and the dial / switch in the "OFF" position. The heat from the transformer will keep the enclosure warm enough to keep condensation from forming inside the controller enclosure. The dial in the "OFF" position will keep the controller from activating the solenoids in the field.
Leave the power on and the dial / switch in the "OFF" position. This will prevent the controller from activating the solenoids in the field.
There is very little winter preparation required for rain sensors. If your sensor is the type with a cup or bowl that catches water, you might want to remove the water and place a plastic bag over the sensor. This will keep any water from accumulating and freezing in the cup or bowl area.

WARNING! WEAR ANSI APPROVED SAFETY EYE PROTECTION! Extreme care must always be taken when blowing out the system with compressed air.

Installing ceiling drywall is a very simple process, but can be slightly challenging when working alone. By making a few minor adjustments, almost anyone can accomplish this task on their own. Here are a few steps to help you along as you learn how to install ceiling drywall.
1
Inspect the area for any obstructions, such as electrical wires, ductwork, or protruding pipes. Install furring strips to the framing in order to create a flat, even surface for drywall installation around these obstacles.
2
Mark the wall studs to indicate the locations of the ceiling joists for reference during the installation process. You'll also want to mark the placement of light fixtures and electrical boxes.
3
Build a T-Brace, if necessary. This will provide the leverage and support needed to raise the drywall panels to the ceiling when you're working alone. Use a 2 foot (60.96 cm) piece of 1 by 4 (2.54 by 10.16 cm) and nail it to a 2 by 4 (5.08 by 10.16 cm) that is long enough to be 1 foot (30.48 cm) higher than the length from the floor to the ceiling.
4
Hang the drywall, starting in the corner, where you can use a full sheet. Raise the first sheet to the ceiling so you can get an idea of the placement across the joists.
5
Wait until you know where you're placing each sheet before you apply any adhesive to the joists. Drywall adhesive dries within 15 minutes, so you'll want to be ready.
6
Using your T-brace, or a friend to assist you, raise the first sheet of drywall to the ceiling and slide it snugly into the corner. Make sure that the tapered edges of the sheet are facing the floor.
7
Continue along the first wall, always ensuring that the tapered edges abut one another and are facing down. The tapered edges are designed to make the process of taping and mudding easier.
8
Affix the drywall sheets permanently to the ceiling joists using either nails or screws. The heads of the fasteners you choose should come in contact with the paper facing, sinking in slightly without breaking through the paper.
9
Drive the fasteners in 3/8 inches (0.95 cm) away from the edges of each sheet, and space them 7 inches (17.78 cm) apart along the perimeter. Along the interior joist, install the fasteners at about 12 inch (30.48 cm) increments.
10
Start the second row with a half sheet of drywall in order to stagger the seams. This will enforce the stability.
11
Measure and mark the cut line at the vertical midpoint of the drywall sheet. Use a straightedge to help guide your utility knife as you cut. Tip the panel off of the floor or table at a slight angle, then push it down to break it in half. Use the utility knife to cut through the paper backing.
12
Trim the dry wall's length by first marking the line with chalk. Score the line with the knife first, then cut deeper with the second pass.
13
Install panels over vents or light fixtures loosely at first. Use a rotary drill to cut out a border for the fixture or vent, and then fully attach the board.
14
Complete the entire ceiling installation before moving on to the walls.
How do I board out a ceiling that is ready for plaster board on a non-standard construction house?
wikiHow Contributor
You can rent or buy a support tool specifically designed for this purpose. Measure, cut, and then lay it on the support tool. It is adjustable and can hold the drywall at the proper height. Screw the drywall to the ceiling joists.
I'm trying to finish the basement ceiling because our contractor backed out after doing the walls first, so how do I make sure everything looks okay when walls are done but the ceiling isn't?
Most people believe that ceilings must be done first, but this isn't true. Doing a ceiling first only helps to hide edges and off cuts. Make sure that the wall board is completely screwed at the top . This will help to keep things straight. You have two option then. You can measure a center point to the middle of the ceiling, placing your sheet dead center of the line, though this isn't recommended if you're not a professional. It's easier to start from a straight corner placing a full sheet in opposite direction of the studs. Your second sheet should be at least 2 - 4 feet shorter than the first one. Place it on the second row. Complete your first row, then continue on until you're finished.
How do I drywall a ceiling that needs insulation?
wikiHow Contributor
Install friction fit batts, sized to meet the code requirements in your area; cover the area completely with 6 mil poly, taping all joints; then fasten up the drywall.
How do I attach drywall to a metal air vent?
wikiHow Contributor
You don't. Drywall should not be in direct contact with the heating duct. As the duct warms when hot air goes through it, the expansion of the duct will create an annoying noise, break loose the screws, or both. You need to frame below the duct to fasten the drywall to either wood or metal framing that is not attached to the duct.
What should the thickness of the drywall on the ceilings be?
wikiHow Contributor
1/2 in is standard, but the code in your area may require a different size, so check your area's building code to be sure.
How far should the screws go into the ceiling joists when installing a drywall ceiling over an existing one?
wikiHow Contributor
To the point where the head contacts the drywall, too far and you could damage the drywall.

Before you can begin working as an independent painting contractor in most states, youll first need to apply for licensing, carry liability insurance and file the right documents to have your business officially recognized.

In my correspondence with home owners, GutterWorks has received many request for a guide so they can be better educated when purchasing a seamless gutter system.
This check sheet is provided for the homeowner so they can better evaluate the installation quotes they receive.
There are two categories: Material & Installation. They will be graded using Poor, Good and Excellent.
When evaluating this list you will need to keep in mind that different parts of the country may require a better grade of product. For example, in the North half of the U.S. we may encounter a ice build up in and on the gutter. This extra weight will require either a stronger hanger or more hangers to hold this extra weight for a extended period of time.
A 1" to 2" slope in 40 foot. NOTE: A gutter installed level will drain because water levels itself, however you will not have any water flow to self clean the gutter. Too much slope does not look good and you loose some of the gutters holding capacity.
Example: A gutter sloping 3 1/2" in a run has lost 1/2 of its holding capacity. In a short heavy down pour the water at the high end of the gutter will be nearly to the bottom of the gutter and at the downspout end (Low end) the water will be overflowing the top of the gutter, Remember- water levels itself.
Summary: Try to strike a happy medium, some slope for cleaning but not too much.
2x3 Downspout will drain 600 sq. ft of roof area.3x4 Downspout will drain 1200 sq. ft. of roof area.
One foot of 5" K-Style gutter holds 1.2 gallons of water. One foot of 6" K-Style gutter holds 2.0 gallons of water.
This is a important part of installation on homes of 3/12 and 4/12 pitch roof. Water will suck back (capillary action) on the roofing material and run down the face board and behind the gutter (causing damage to the face board over time). The basic knowledge and understanding of capillary action of water was the founding principle that the inventor Robert Demantini used in producing the well known product "GUTTER HELMET" which started a revolution in gutter cover industry spurring dozens of different models of gutter covers we see on the market today.
Steeper sloped roofs do not have this problem and in some cases the singles may overhang the drip edge and droop down into the gutter thus eliminating the problem . Strip flashing must be used to bridge the gap between the drip edge and the back of the gutter if the gutter runs below the drip edge at the lower end of the gutter run. Good luck in getting a shoddy gutter company to come back and fix this problem because it will require reinstalling the complete gutter system or installing flashing. So beware and insist that it be done!
Consider some kind of gutter guard. In most cases if you have your gutter installer install the gutter guard when he's there to install the gutter, they'll cut you a better deal. Use 3x4 downspout. DO NOT INSTALL PRODUCTS THAT FIT DOWN INTO THE GUTTER. Install only Product that fit and install on top of the gutter. Metal products will last longer than a Plastic product. No rolled metal or plastic screens!
A brief comment about trying to clean your gutters from the ground. There are mechanical devices that do work. The water blasters are poor at best. Its very hard to clean something when you can't see what your doing. The next time you take your car to the car wash close your eyes when you wash it and see what it looks like when your finished. And O' yes don't forget the rain coat when you use the water blaster on your gutter because mother natures gravity is going to bring everything straight down on your head- and pick a calm day or the windows may have to be re-cleaned as well. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT!
Screws: Stainless Steel with painted heads: Excellent Zinc Coated with painted heads: Good Pop Rivets: Excellent
