PLAINFIELD Village Administrator Brian Murphy and Planner Michael Garrigan Wednesday morning presented an advisory economic development task force with preliminary updates to several economic initiatives.

Some of those updates included progress on filling several outlots in the Meijers planned unit development at 135th Street and Route 59.

[We are] working with some of those retailers, including a 7,125-square-foot OReillys Auto Parts store, and additional retail space at 11,251 square feet, Garrigan said. The same developer has identified a [retail use] at the hard corner outlet.

Also progressing are discussion on a potential big box retailer coming to the Boulevards property at the old truck stop along Route 30 near Interstate 55.

That retailer became more interested once the village got moving on Route 30 construction, and it also would be part of a tax-increment financing, or TIF, district the village is entertaining along Route 30, Garrigan said.

Murphy and Garrigan also said staff is entertaining the idea of bringing back impact fees on developers to fill in the revenue lost with lower projected income tax revenue from the state.

Plainfield has higher impact fees than many surrounding communities, in part because of the high Plainfield School District 202 portion. So Murphy and Garrigan said the plan still is preliminary and staff is just looking at it.

This is one of our bigger challenges, Murphy said.

Shares of Apogee Enterprises Inc (APOG: Quote) gained more than 7 percent in extended trades Wednesday after the glass-products designer's results for the fourth quarter beat analysts' expectations.

Apogee reported a 73 percent increase in profit for the fourth quarter from last year, helped by double-digit revenue growth in three of its four segments. Looking ahead, the company forecast earnings for fiscal 2016 in line with analysts' estimates.

Joseph Puishys, Apogee chief executive officer said, "Apogee's growth engine continued in the fourth quarter as we again grew revenues in the double digits and income more than 50 percent. Performance across the company was strong, with double-digit earnings and revenue growth in three of four segments."

Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Apogee Enterprises develops glass solutions for enclosing commercial buildings and framing art.

Apogee's net earnings for the fourth quarter were $13.89 million or $0.47 per share, up from $8.04 million or $0.27 per share in the year-ago period.

On average, five analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.43 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Net sales for the quarter grew 15 percent to $246.70 million from $214.42 million in the prior-year quarter. Analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of $242.38 million for the quarter.

The company noted that its sales performance was strong, with double-digit earnings and revenue growth in three of four segments.

Architectural glass revenues for the quarter rose 23 percent from the prior-year period to $92.3 million, while architectural services revenues were flat with last year at $63.5 million. Architectural framing systems grew 22 percent to $77.0 million and large-scale optical technologies revenue rose 18 percent to $22.7 million.

Apogee's backlog at the end of the quarter was $490.8 million, up 49 percent from the year-ago period. According to the company, about 80 percent of the backlog is expected to be delivered in fiscal 2016, while the remaining 20 percent is expected to be delivered in fiscal 2017.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - ?Here is a list of some road projects from around the Heartland.

Bollinger County, MO

Route N in Bollinger County will be reduced to one lane as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform edge rut repairs. This section of roadway is located between Route F to Route 51. Weather permitting, work will take place Monday, March 30 and Tuesday, March 31 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Butler County, MO

Route WW will be reduced to one lane while contractor crews perform asphalt resurfacing. This section of road is located between Route 53 and the railroad crossing. Weather permitting, crews will be working on Monday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. and will reopen on Tuesday, July 21 at 6:30 a.m.

Route 53 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform drainage repairs. This section of roadway is located from County Road 616 to County Road 617. Weather permitting, work will performed Monday, April 6 through Thursday, April 9 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily.

MoDOT is currently planning to improve three Butler Co. bridges. Two of the bridges are located on Route 142 over Hart Ditch and Long Slough Ditch. The third bridge is on Route 158 over the drainage ditch located about 0.7 miles west of Route BB. The project will involve replacing the existing bridges over Hart Ditch and the drainage ditch.

The bridge over Long Slough Ditch will be replaced with a culvert; grading and paving will also be completed. Acquisition of the right-of-way will be minimal and will only be required for the Hart Ditch bridge project. Existing utility lines will be affected on this project. Construction of the new bridge is expected to begin in summer 2015.

Work is expected to be finished in about four months, weather permitting. As construction is underway, Rte. 142 and Rte. 158 will be closed to through traffic in the vicinity of the bridges for the duration of the work. Property owners within the project limits will have access into their properties during this time.
