The developers of a proposed 94-lot subdivision just north of Helena along Montana Avenue will have to wait until Thursday to learn what conditions may accompany its approval.

The time allotted by state law for review by Lewis and Clark County ends Thursday. The subdivision would have 88 residential lots, four commercial lots, one lot for wastewater utilities and another for parkland.

A significant issue to be resolved is whether the subdivision will be required to install curbs and gutters on its 24-foot-wide streets.

Ryan Casne, of Casne & Associates, who is the developers engineer, told the commission that developers should know up front if they will face this cost.

The subdivision, proposed by Parker Heller and Julie Lamb-Heller, is about 1,700 feet from the city limits and within an area just outside of Helena that is envisioned for future annexation.

Commission Chairman Andy Hunthausen told the developers its the countys intent to work with the city toward common standards in this area.

Hunthausen said the Hellers land is appropriate for subdivision but explained this should be, in my opinion, a city subdivision.

I think the streets should be city standard streets for my perspective, he said.

City standard would be 28 feet, Casne noted.

While pledging to adhere to county regulations in the subdivisions approval process, Hunthausen also asked if the developers would still be interested in connecting to city services.

CHICAGO (CBS) Things came full circle Tuesday night for David Letterman and the good people of Kankakee, as the city turned a gag gift from 16 years ago into a retirement gift for the Late Show host.

Last week, Todd The Intern from the Late Show traveled to Kankakee to pick up a rocking chair the community made for the comedian.

It wasnt any old rocking chair. The wood used to make it came from a bit Letterman did in 1999, after Kankakee was ranked in one survey as the worst place to live in America.

Letterman made a mocking Top 10 list about Kankakee, and sent a gag gift of two gazebos, joking the city could promote itself as home of world famous twin gazebos.

After learning Letterman was stepping down from the Late Show, a Kankakee High School teacher and his students decided to tear down one of the gazebos and turn it into a rocking chair as a retirement gift.

As youll see in the video above, Todd had quite a blast visiting Kankakee to pick up Lettermans gift.

CBS 2 actually caught up with the Kankakee students spearheading the gazebo destruction in February, as they excitedly detailed the plans to turn one of the gazebos into the mocking gift for Letterman.
