Artie Guy, known in Gainesville for his Artie's Tempeh product that graces the menu of many local eateries, is set to resurrect his own restaurant.

Founded in 1982 and located just north of the University of Florida campus, Steamers was owned by Guy from 2000 to 2005 before he sold it to former Tasty Buddha owner Parker Van Hart, who closed it in 2011.

It's set to return under Guy in the historic Bethel Station building in downtown Gainesville's Bo Diddley Community Plaza. Based on the permitting timeline, Guy is hoping to open by mid- or late April.

Plaza construction and the fencing that went up Sunday won't affect Steamers, said Lynn Janoski, a project manager with the Gainesville Community Redevelopment Agency.

Built in 1925 as a Gulf Oil service station at the present location of the downtown parking garage, the structure was moved in the mid-1980s by the city to its present location in the corner of the plaza.

Renovations starting in 2008 turned the building into a restaurant space and it was home to the Lunch Box from 2010 until it closed in late 2014.

Steamers was one of 11 businesses that applied to fill the vacancy, and the selection process concluded with the City Commission approving a five-year lease in February. Because of construction, rent was waived for the first two months and will then be discounted to $850 a month.

After construction, it'll be bumped to $1,200, increasing 3 percent annually.

The keys were passed to Steamers on Sunday and renovations weren't necessary for the transition from Lunch Box, Janoski said.

ANOTHER big-name restaurant is set to open in the city centre.

Shopping centre bosses have lodged a planning application to transform the former TK Maxx unit, in Hanley.

It has been empty since 2010 and retailers have shied away from reopening the shop unit.

Now officials running the intu Potteries shopping centre are looking to turn the Quadrant Road building into a restaurant.

They are in advanced talks with an operator which is looking to move in but are refusing to say who it is.

It comes as six restaurant chains Coast to Coast, Nandos, Pizza Express, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Chiquito and Frankie and Bennys have already signed up for the 20 million leisure complex opening at the shopping centre.

Intu regional director Martin Breeden said: The restaurant and leisure extension at intu Potteries is already proving popular, with six top restaurants and Cineworld signed up.

We want to ensure our customers have plenty of choice and this planning application is so we can make the best use of vacant space with the addition of a seventh restaurant.

Customers are excited about the names already signed up and we look forward to welcoming them to the new dining and leisure area later this year.

San Diegos Marrokal Design and Remodeling earns 4 Regional CotY Awards.

Contractors from seven regions around the country compete for CotY Awards each year. Regional winners will be honored and National winners will be announced at NARIs Evening of ExcellenceSM reception on Friday, April 17 at the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty Six in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The winner reveal will also be available via Webcast at 5:30 pm ET on April 17.

All projects in the CotY awards program are an improvement or an addition to an existing structure, with the exception of one category, Residential Exterior Specialty. Otherwise, new construction projects were not eligible.

Marrokal Design and Remodeling, a design/build remodeling firm that has been working in the San Diego area for more than 30 years, was named Regional Winner four times in the categories of Residential Addition $100,000-$250,000, Residential Addition over $250,000, Bath Remodel $25,000-$50,000 and Bath Remodel $75,000-$100,000. To be considered for a CotY Award, a company must be a NARI member in good standing. Competing projects were completed between July 1, 2012, and November 30, 2014, and were not submitted in previous NARI National contests.

The entries of this years competition totaled over $85.5 million worth of remodeling projects.
