MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS SF) You get a text message on your Google phone from your blood-born Google nanosensors saying you need more vitamin D, so you turn off your Chromecast, turn on your Google connected home security system, pop in your Google anti-UV contact lenses, hop in your Google car to go to a beach that Googles YouTube predicted you would like, then order up a burger and ice cream sundae to be delivered by Google drone, that youll eat with your Google Spoon, all coordinated using WiFi from Google balloons and satellites hovering above the Earth. Powered by Googles Kite turbines. And youll do it all because Googles Calico Lifespan project alerted you this morning that you have exactly 22 years, 5 months left of projected life left, and you want to enjoy every Google-connected minute of it.
Creepy? Maybe.
Brilliant? Yes.
Invasive? Definitely.
Reality? Every one of these is an actual project Google is investing time, money, and in some cases, entire divisions to make a reality. Many already delivered on their initial goals. Some of them Google has bought outright, and began improving on the technologies. Others are home grown.
Whichever way they came to be under the Google umbrella (or Google tentacles, depending on your view of massive corporations that explore diverse products), they show how Google is increasingly entrenched in every part of our lives.
Its all public information, all available byyou guessed it: Googling it.
And, expect this list to grow. Astro Teller (yes, thats his real name) who runs the moon shot programs at Google X tells Forbes they reject 100 projects every year or more, including the Google Jetpack (too inefficient) and the Google Hoverboard (not practical).
16GOOGLE PROJECTS THAT COULD CHANGE THE WORLD and CHANGE YOUR LIFE
1. GOOGLE TERMINATOR:This 6 foot, 2-inch tall, 330 pound robot named Ian is not really a killer, but it could be. It looks like the Terminator, but its stated skills include carrying a fire hose, driving a car, and apparently doing moves from The Karate Kid. Its a product of Boston Dynamics, a Google-owned subsidiary, that does contract work for DARPA, the U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corp in addition to private companies like Sony.

Imagine someone watching every move you make inside your home.
That's what prompting a Poland township woman to take legal action alleging that someone hacked into her home video security system.
Jocelyn Pannunzio has filed a lawsuit seeking damages for invasion of privacy.
Pannunzio wanted a video system to monitor her son's bedroom so she could watch him at night when she wasn't home.
When the system developed a problem, a technician made a disturbing discovery and asked if they had been logging in to the system.
We don't even know how to log in. Just from our I-phones, said Pannunzio. The technician told Pannunzio that someone had been logging in everyday, all day.
Dave Betras is Pannunzio's attorney, who had the system checked by a computer forensic expert.
I have proof that someone hacked into her home system and someone monitored her and recorded her in her own home said Betras.
Pannunzio says it's disturbing to know that loving moments with her son were not really private.

Handymen are a great help to the average homeowner. They are usually capable of handling a variety of tasks so you can ask them to take care of several items in the same visit. Whats more, once you find a reliable handyman, you will tend to build a relationship of sorts. Its reassuring to say, You know that ornery bathroom faucet of mine? Its acting up again and be understood by someone who is in a position to solve the problem. Read more about handymen and the role they can play in your home.
Handyman vs. Contractor
Even though there is a certain amount of overlap between the services of a handyman and those of a building contractor, you will find some distinct differences as well. Contractor work, such as wiring a houses electrical system, requires a state-issued license. Contractors usually specialize in one area of home construction and repair. Handymen, on the other hand, are often generalists, skilled at numerous small home improvement or maintenance tasks. They do not need a license (although its essential to hire only individuals who are insured, for their protection and your own) but may be legally limited to projects under a specified dollar amount. Cost to hire a handyman can be either an hourly or per job rate, but will almost invariably be substantially lower than the charge for a contractor.
Handy Do List
Just about every household has a honey do list of chores waiting to be done around the home. If you dont have the time or the inclination to tackle it yourself, hire a handyman who will turn it into a handy do list and, in short order, a handy did list. Here are some typical handyman tasks you might want to include:
Make the Most of Your Handymans Services
Before you hire any handyman, ensure that he is ready, willing, and able to do the type of work you need. Make the most of the hours that he will be working for you. Try to clarify ahead of time exactly what you would like him to accomplish and pinpoint the nature of any repairs to be performed. A written list can be an excellent time- and money-saver. Bear in mind that while handyman service is frequently billed by the hour, there tends to be a minimum charge and often a travel fee as well. This means that it will be cheaper to pay for one service call of longer duration than two shorter ones.
Ask for a price estimate and, in the case of larger jobs, a signedcontract.
Last but not least, check the fine print. Find out whether the work youd like done will require a building permit and verify that having a handyman perform routine maintenance tasks on, say, a major kitchen appliance will not void your warranty.

SUSSEX COUNTY -- The Stanhope handyman accused of stabbing a woman to death in 2012 won't put his defense before a jury -- but has instead opted for a bench trial, the New Jersey Herald reports.
Gregg Murphy earlier this month rejected rejected a plea deal for 30 years and will instead opt to go to trial.
As previously reported by the Star-Ledger, Murphy is charged with killing Mariann Ferreira, 56, on Dec. 3, 2012, by repeatedly stabbing her in her home in rural Green Township. Law enforcement officials have said Murphy admitted killing Ferreira, but could not provide any reason.
According to the Herad, Murphy told a judge Thursday he understood his choice meant his fate would be decided by just one person -- a judge. He said he wasn't coerced into the choice, and that he understood the charges against him, according to the report.
Prior to retiring in January of 2012, Ferreira worked for the Morris County Division of Aging, Disability and Veterans, helping people find assisted-living facilities for themselves and loved ones.
Ferreira's son told the Star-Ledger in 2013 Murphy had often done work at Ferreira 's house. He'd recently uilt a deck on one side of her home. urphy did high-quality work and his prices were fair, which worked well for Ferreira, as she didn't have much money, her son said.
She felt bad for him and she wanted to help him out. She kept giving him work" and trusted him, Jared Ferreira said at the time.
"He admitted stabbing the victim multiple times with the purpose of killing her. He acknowledged he had no justification and couldnt say why he did it," First Assistant Prosecutor Gregory Mueller told Superior Court Judge N. Peter Conforti shortly after the arrest, during Murphys first appearance in Superior Court.
Murphy remains in the Sussex county Jail in lieu of $750,000 bail

More reports, more mystery leaks, more questions about the complexity of cleaning up a broken nuclear plant.
Last weekend, we learned about Fukushima's latest leak, which led to water with 70 times the normal levels of radiation leaking into the nearby ocean. It seems that Tepco, the company responsible for the maintenance and decommissioning of the plant, detected contaminated water coming from a gutter and discovered that a leak was leading to radiation leakage into the plant's drainage system.
It's just the latest leak in a long line of leaks. But this week, it was revealed that Tepco knew about the problem all the way back in May. And didn't report it. An official at the plant apologized, saying that "the trust of the people in Fukushima is the most important thing," and that "we've been working with that in mind, but unfortunately, we have damaged that trust this time," according to Digital Journal, which calls the failure to report the leak "gross incompetence."
It's definitely incompetenceand it's another glimpse into the complexity of the cleanup process. After all, it was just a few days ago that the International Atomic Energy Agency said the operation had improved significantly.

Meanwhile, understanding how radioactivity is filtering through the environmentfrom food to soil to waterwill be its own, decades-long project, as Nature reported today.
There simply aren't very many precedents for understanding how this kind of catastrophic event needs to be dealt with. These leaks, and Tepco's treatment of them, will be studied for decadesprobably centuriesand, hopefully, the process will add to what's known about managing accidents like this. [NBC]
