The new Lynbrook Burger Bandit restaurant is making a name for itself quickly. Beyond its tantalizing menu and a buzz that co-owner and well known Kim Kardashian friend Jonathan Cheban have immediately generated for the restaurants flagship location, the restaurant itself is unlike any other burger eatery on Long Island. That is because Chebans behind-the-scenes team included talented designers and award- winning commercial contractor Bens General Contracting.

We were tasked with bringing Mr. Chebans long-time vision of opening a unique fast-casual family-friendly burger restaurant to life. As we transformed a closed down Quiznos into the first Burger Bandit, we found that the Burger Bandit is not just offering a delicious, unique menu. Patrons of the restaurant will enjoy the experience of eating in the restaurant itself. Its design and construction are like no other, says Ben Jackson.

In a recent interview, Ben Jackson and brother Tony Jackson shared some of the Burger Bandits notable features. The build out included construction of eye catching architectural and design elements that include an open ceiling design with exposed spiral ductwork, a custom wood suspended ceiling, suspended custom wood beams in the dining area, and stainless steel hardware and soffits.

To create interesting focal points, a custom colored art glass wall border with stainless trim was constructed, as well as a textured wood panel wall with an up lit Burger Bandit logo. Hi-efficiency LED track lighting was installed to illuminate the restaurants seating niches and surrounding walls and counters. Simulated wood tile wainscot with stainless steel chair rails in the dining area were also integrated into the restaurants construction to create a contrast of both industrial and natural textures.

Following the Lynbrook Burger Bandits Grand Opening held on February, 22, 2015, Ben Jackson commented, We wish everyone at the Burger Bandit success and we will be there for them as they grow their business. A day after Avinash Chander was sacked as chief of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said Wednesday that he recommended the removal and that the organization should be headed by a younger person.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the termination of Chander's contract with effect from Jan 31, 15 months ahead of schedule. Chander, 64, retired Nov 30 but was given a contract for 18 months till May 31, 2016 as head of DRDO.

"I recommended that a person on contract should not be occupying such a senior position. This senior position should be filled by other eligible senior persons. There is no controversy here," Parrikar said.

"I believe DRDO should be headed by a younger man... I had proposed for his removal and they have agreed to it."

Government sources said nuclear scientist Sekhar Basu was likely to be named the new DRDO chief.

Basu, who heads the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, was behind the nuclear system that is driving the Arihant-class submarines of the Indian Navy.

A search panel headed by the cabinet secretary will pick Chander's replacement from among top DRDO scientists.

Chander's sack notification was put up on the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) web site Tuesday but removed later.

DRDO officials said they did not receive any official information on Chander's removal.

Chander is widely known as the man behind the Agni series of missiles.

At the time this image was taken, the comet was passing about 51 million miles from Earth a short distance for the Dark Energy Camera, which is sensitive to light up to 8 billion light years away. The comet's center is a ball of ice roughly three miles across, and the visible head of the comet is a cloud of gas and dust about 400,000 miles in diameter.

An employee of a roofing company was arrested after being accused of breaking into two homes in Bedford.

Police said they were called to a home on Old Billerica Road just after 1 p.m. Thursday when the resident reported returning home from a dentist appointment and finding a bedroom was ransacked and all of the resident's jewelry boxes had been emptied. The resident also reported that the closet and dressers had been gone through by an apparent burglar.

The police officer said they saw work-boot prints by a rear sliding glass door of the home and noted that a roofing crew was working in the area.

Police investigated and eventually approached an orange Jeep Wrangler with commercial plates.

The person in the Jeep, who was identified as Steven Butler, 26, of Medford, told police he was one of several crews in the area at the time. However police said there was only one company working in the area at the time.

Police said they spoke to the foreman of the roofing crew, who then rounded up his workers and told them to come clean if they did anything wrong.

While that was happening, police said they saw in plain view on the passenger seat of the Jeep where Butler was sitting several earrings, earring backs and a silver dollar.

Police detained and searched Butler and said they found more stolen items in his pockets, as well as a bag containing pills.

The owner of the Jeep allowed police to search it, and they said they found other jewelry, luggage, electronics and more pills, all of which was determined to belong to the resident who reported the burglary, as well as residents of another home nearby, who did not yet know they had been robbed.

Butler was arrested and charged with two counts of breaking and entering during the day, two counts of receiving stolen property over $250 and possession of a Class C substance.

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) heard speakers on a range of topics at the 78th Annual Conference held Feb. 15-18 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Subjects discussed included next-generation replacement of windows, standardization for fenestration products in the European Union, the basics of color measurement and more.

Jim Snyder talks next-generation replacement Jim Snyder, owner of the company WindowJim, spoke to conference attendees about the paradox of next-generation window replacement a complex problem that will take time to resolve. While the industry relies on replacement, Snyder said, window manufacturers are saddled with the blame of installation failures. However, this is not to say the matter is hopeless.

Snyder urged attendees to think about prevention, and also involving others who do not have a vested interest, such as builders and architects. Enforcing proper installation in new construction is also key.

Replacement can no longer be an afterthought, said Snyder. Its a second opportunity to sell a window package to the same house. If replacement isnt doable, were losing that opportunity.

Frank Koos explains European legislation, standardization for fenestration products Frank Koos, general secretary of EuroWindoor, discussed the construction sector in Europe, the legislation that governs it, the European window markets and other areas of international interest. He gave an outlook to the next challenges for construction projects in the EU, including stronger requirements for energy efficiency, restrictions on the use of certain hazardous substances and the concept of Sustainability Assessment for Building Certification.

He offered attendees a better understanding of the Hunter and CIELAB color space systems and of color difference equations including the use of ellipsoid values to set pass/fail color tolerances.

Although we think we see color well, we really dont, said Shrider, adding that color perception is subjective depending upon age, gender and mood. The eye is a wonderful tool, adaptive and creative; however, it has a flaw: We have two different types of sensors cones and rods. The Wright/Guild Experiment focused red/blue energy on one screen and a variable input on the other. Smaller area of view did not respond well to color viewing.

A 149-room Hyatt Place hotel, 202 luxury apartments and a street-level restaurant will occupy the looming former downtown St. Paul post office and customs house on Kellogg Boulevard when its renovation is complete in spring 2016.

Exeter Group, which bought the art deco building in 2013, sold much of its first five floors last week to Des Moines, Iowa-based Nelson Construction & Development. Nelson will build the hotel, while Exeter handles the rest of the development.

"Our plan is to bring back some of the building's historic charm," said Herb Tousley, chief development manager for Exeter Group.

Named Custom House, the 17-story riverfront building will be restored in the original 1930s style -- a job made easier by the stacks of plans left behind by the U.

St. Paul-based Exeter began work on the lobby and residential floors in November, while Nelson Construction plans to begin gutting its portion of the building in March.

"St. Paul is a great market for us," said Danny Heggen, Nelson's project manager. "There's a lot happening in Lowertown right now that it makes this a prime opportunity for the Hyatt Place brand."

He noted the building's proximity to the recently opened Green Line train, the restored Union Depot and CHS Field, the new home of the St. Paul Saints baseball team, scheduled to open in May. There are no plans to connect the building to St. Paul's downtown skyway system.

The renovation will cost an estimated $125 million and employ nearly 400 people.

The 750,000-square-foot building, mostly built during the Depression and listed last year on the National Register of Historic Places, sits on a downhill sloping block diagonal from the federal courthouse. At one time it housed government offices, including a customs house and mail-sorting facilities. The last postal operations there ceased in 2013.

Hyatt hotel planned along with luxury apartments in old St. Paul post office

Howard Hanna could start construction in late March or early April on a roughly $1 million office building in Sewickley.

Sewickley Council members approved the plan earlier this month.

The 4,500-square-foot building at Broad and Thorn streets calls for a flat roof, departing from an original sloped-roof design approved by the borough's planning commission, architect Stephen Casey said. Larger storefront windows along the Broad Street side are part of the revised plan.

The building, with a planned red brick facade, would accommodate up to 39 agents and include work space and conference rooms, architect Stephen Casey said. It would include a mezzanine level.

The Sewickley real estate office caught fire June 13, when a lightning strike hit the Sewickley United Methodist Church clock tower. The fire damaged the structure, displaced residents living above the offices and forced real-estate agents to work in temporary locations.
