Roofing, Siding & Insulation Wholesaling in the US Industry Market Research Report from IBISWorld Has Been Updated

    - February 23, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    (PRWEB) February 22, 2015

The Roofing, Siding and Insulation industry primarily sells building materials to professional contractors and developers who use them to construct, renovate or repair residential and commercial buildings. Over the past five years, revitalized demand from both residential and nonresidential construction markets has helped accelerate industry growth after three consecutive years of poor performance prior to 2010. Consequently, IBISWorld expects revenue to grow in the five years to 2015. Industry revenue is expected to grow in 2015, driven primarily by a spike in demand from the residential new construction market, with housing starts expected to jump up during the year.

The industry's reliance on the remodeling market, which is significantly less cyclical than the new construction market, has helped industry sales recover quickly during the past five years, says IBISWorld Economic Analyst Ibrahim Yucel in the updated report. A variety of factors bolster remodeling expenditure, including housing trends such as rising property values and the steadily aging US housing stock, economic trends such as improving disposable income levels and climatic factors such as the frequency of major hurricanes, blizzards and hail storms. For example, rising property values encourage homeowners to enhance the exterior appearance of their homes, boosting demand for vinyl siding products. Likewise, major storm events such as Hurricane Sandy forced homeowners and businesses to repair damaged roofs and exterior walls, bolstering demand for asphalt shingles and fiberglass insulation from both the residential and nonresidential markets.

Over the next five years, the industry will continue to benefit from expanding remodeling activity and stabilizing new construction markets. In particular, private spending on home improvements is expected to rise during the next five years, while the value of nonresidential construction is forecast to grow during the same period. Furthermore, the frequency and intensity of major storms such as hurricanes are expected to continue increasing over the next few years, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Yucel says in the updated report. Accordingly, IBISWorld expects revenue to increase over the five years to 2020. Despite aggressive acquisition activity among the major players, the highly fragmented industry will likely remain dominated by small businesses that operate locally.

Blue Jays open camp with several spots in play

    - February 23, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Even though pitchers and catchers weren't required to be at the ballpark on Sunday, a handful of Blue Jays showed up to get some extra work in. One of those was veteran left-hander Mark Buehrle, who is ready to get going after the club's offseason additions of Russell Martin, Josh Donaldson and Michael Saunders.

"We know what Russell Martin brings to the table and his competitiveness," Buehrle said. "It's on paper right now. We have seven or eight months of baseball to play to see if it works out and how good it works. We'll just go out there and play, start here in Spring Training, start gelling together, and we'll see where it takes us."

The Blue Jays will spend the next week and a half going through morning workouts in preparation for the start of their Grapefruit League schedule, which opens with an afternoon game against the Pirates on March 3. Exhibition play will continue through a two-game series against the Reds in Montreal on April 3-4.

Outlook: Pompey has speed, should reach base often

Dalton Pompey is only 22 years old, but has a shot to start for the Blue Jays due to his impressive speed and ability to reach base

There should be a number of competitions to keep a close eye on throughout camp. Dalton Pompey and Kevin Pillar are vying for the starting spot in center, and there could be as many as five players in the mix for the starting job at second base, with Maicer Izturis, Ryan Goins and Devon Travis the early frontrunners.

The biggest uncertainty on this team, though, can be found in the bullpen. Toronto lost Casey Janssen to free agency, and the club has come up short in its attempt to add another big piece. That has caused plenty of speculation that the bullpen will become a major weakness on the roster, but left-hander Brett Cecil doesn't want to hear about that.

Cecil pointed to the fact that the bullpen was supposed to be a weakness in 2013 and ended up becoming a major strength. Last year, the opposite was true, as expectations were high and the results were subpar, at best.

"Stuff like that can definitely shift from year to year," said Cecil, who is expected to compete with rookie Aaron Sanchez for the closer's role. "We have some new faces in here, and I'm looking forward to the competition that you're going to have throughout the entire field in this Spring Training. It's going to be interesting."

    GIMP – Downloads

    GIMP for Unix-like systems

It's very likely your Unix-like system such as a GNU/Linux distribution already comes with a GIMP package. It is a preferred method of installing GIMP, as the distribution maintainers take care of all the dependencies and bug fix updates. Please note that many distros decide to pin a specific version of GIMP to their releases.

Ubuntu or Debian users can run apt-get install gimp to install GIMP. Ubuntu users may also install GIMP from Software Centre, this includes recent GIMP versions from PPAs.

SUSE users can install GIMP by running yast -i gimp or zypper in gimp, depending on the distribution version.

Similarly to the above, Fedora users can install GIMP by running yum install gimp.

Mandriva Linux users can install GIMP by running urpmi gimp.

GIMP is also available for the BSD family of systems such as FreeBSD and OpenBSD.

    GIMP can run on Solaris.

Since the 2.8.2 version GIMP runs on OSX natively. No X11 environment is required.

Currently there are two main installers:

Meter automation project helps identify water leaks

    - February 23, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Cases are dribbling in that show that one customer-centric element of the Altoona Water Authority's $6.6 million meter automation and replacement project is working.

As a corollary to its automation of readings, the authority is notified when a residential customer's usage never drops below a gallon per hour for 48 consecutive hours, according to authority billing director Ron Becher.

That indicates a leak, and when it happens, the authority notifies the customer, who can then check and have the leak repaired.

It takes three days between the time a leak begins and the notifications go out, he said.

Before meter automation, it took 45 days, as the authority only read meters once in 30 days, then had to work through the billing process before high-usage for one customer would come to the attention of officials, who could then notify the customer, Becher said.

The improvement is "quite huge," Becher told the board last week.

One case - a vacant building in a shopping center - indicates the potential value.

The authority received an alert, notified the shopping center office, and the center repaired a pipe that had frozen and burst.

Enough water had leaked to generate a bill of $1,200.

Had the same thing happened before automation, the loss would have required an additional zero - $12,000, Becher said.

Jersey City Vies to Up Its Game in Office Market

    - February 23, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    By Keiko Morris

Jersey City isn't the fashion industry's new Garment District or Midtown South, the hot spot for technology and advertising firms.

But New Jersey's second-largest city has been making the case that it is an up-and-comer in the office-space market, attracting clothiers and publishers as well as building on its base of financial-services companies.

The growing diversification, taking place at Jersey City's waterfront, is being attributed by real-estate experts and landlords to a combination of factors: New York City's rising rents, generous state incentives and the booming residential development in that area.

In just the past several months, apparel company Charles Komar & Sons Inc. signed a lease to move its offices and showroom from three sites in Manhattan after receiving a 10-year, $37.2 million economic-development tax grant from New Jersey. Also receiving 10-year state incentive packages last year were Forbes Media LLC for $27.1 million and VF Sportswear Inc. and its subsidiaries for $13.1 million.

As for leasing more space to the financial sector, Jersey City landed J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. and RBC Capital Markets last year as well with the help of $303.6 million in state tax credits over a decade. J.P. Morgan, which already had operations in the city, has promised to create 1,000 jobs and RBC already has begun to move some of about 900 positions.

In 2013, New Jersey merged its economic-incentive programs and has aggressively used tax credits to bring and retain jobs, and spur development.

Since then, the state has announced more than $430 million in tax grants, which will be awarded over time, to attract and keep companies in Jersey City. Those incentives are expected to bring more than 3,000 jobs.

"In 2000, when you had the first big wave of office occupancy coming to Jersey City, a lot of that occupancy was financial services, broadly speaking," said Harrison LeFrak, vice chairman and principal of LeFrak, which developed and owns much of the Jersey City waterfront megadevelopment of residential towers, offices and retail space called Newport. "Today, it is becoming very financial technology-focused and we are starting to see retail and apparel companies."

Attracting different kinds of sectors is making the Hudson waterfront even more of a bright spot in New Jersey's otherwise weak office market. More suburban areas have been weighed down by older office parks that once were home to pharmaceutical and telecommunication companies.
