Feng shui expert predicts good fortunes for Sabah

    - February 9, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    9th February, 2015

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will be blessed with a good tourism year, says feng shui expert Jessie Lee.

Jessie who has more than 16 years of experience in Chinese metaphysics said Sabah should emphasise more on promoting and marketing its tourism industry.

In an interview with New Sabah Times yesterday, she said the geomancy reading for Sabah in the Year of the Goat is very strategic and prosperous.

From the Malaysia map itself, Sabah is located at northeast and according to year 2015 Flying Star, this location has the beneficial of six white stars, which indicates authority, power, reputation and fame, she said.

She added that under these six stars it will bring more recognition to this state.

More people will come to know about Sabah, and a name will be created from this state. These are the main things that Sabah can expect this year, she predicted.

Apart from the strategic location, Jessie said Sabah has a good source of Chi.

She explained that the first thing a classical feng shui practitioner will examine is the source of Chi, and Chi comes from the mountains.

In Sabah, we see mountains are everywhere, with Mount Kinabalu strategically located right at the northeast direction, the external foundation of feng shui is already here and it is well taken care of, she said.

Community editorial board: Mending fences, post-nullification

The Albany County Commission voted this week to nullify city ordinances affecting county residents living within a half-mile radius of the city of Laramie.

The move, commissioners and advocates explained, guarantees constituents have a say in their government. County residents cant vote for city councilors, so why should they be bound by ordinances in which they have no electoral say?

County Commissioner Heber Richardson, who introduced the nullification motion, wrote in a letter to the editor the measure will help give county commissioners and their constituents outside Laramie equal footing with city residents.

None of us on this board live in the half-mile zone affected by nullification, but we can understand the frustration those within the half-mile radius feel at being affected by decisions made by the city decision they did not have a vote in.

We also understand the citys point of view. Specifically, allowing the use of fireworks on private property within the half-mile zone which nullification does increases the odds of a fire starting in the county, then spreading to property within the city.

While both sides have valid concerns, we think things should have never gotten to this point. The apparent frustration between county residents, their elected officials and city government shows trust has bottomed out among these groups.

County residents are clearly skeptical of the city; this isnt exactly surprising. From our observations, talk of nullification and limiting the citys influence outside of city limits began in earnest years ago after at least one councilor talked about extending the citys sphere of influence five-10 miles outside city limits.

Its important to keep in mind that, by our accounts, this talk was never publicly supported by a majority of city councilors. Add to that the fact this discussion occurred about two election cycles back and was promptly ended by the State Legislatures passage of House Bill 85 in 2013 and it gets more difficult to think of city government as ever having a snowballs chance of successfully dictating what folks in the county can and cannot do.

Given the groundswell of support nullification received, however, we are clearly in the minority on this. So, the city needs to build trust with those outside the city.

Roxbury Residents Fight Planned Dearborn Middle School Demolition

    - February 9, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

BOSTONA major battle is coming to a head over the fate of a century-old Boston Public School building that most recently housed the Dearborn Middle School in Roxbury.

The building is scheduled for demolition to make way for the first new school to be built in the city in more than a decade.

Neighborhood residents, property owners and historical preservationists are fighting to save the building, turning in hundreds (they say a thousand) signatures on a petition to save the Dearborn.

The Building And Its History Belong To A Story From Which We Should Be Learning

Perched atop a steep hill on Greenville Street, just blocks from Dudley Square, sits what until June was the Dearborn Middle School.

It first opened in the 1913-14 school year as the High School of Practical Arts for Girls. It was the first public vocational high school purposefully built for girls in Boston.

Barry Gaither, director and curator of the National Center of Afro-American Artists, who works with Bostons Museum of Fine Arts, says it was the largest and most important building built by the schoolhouse department in many years.

Gaither and many neighborhood residents want the building declared a historical landmark that should be preserved.
