BOKA Powell has completed interior design work for the downtown Dallas headquarters of Lanyon, the leading provider of cloud-based software for managing corporate meetings, events, and travel programs. Set on multiple floors using distinctive sustainable materials, the modern loft-style office at 717 N. Harwood is designed to foster collaboration and connection among the firms growing workforce.

We created concepts that connect people with each other and with technology, in keeping with Lanyons slogan, The Science of Bringing People Together, said Scott Case, interior design project manager with BOKA Powell.

A customer briefing center off the lobby immediately connects customers to the companys tech savvy culture, with angled walls, flat screen TVs and flexible seating. Bright, flexible conference rooms are named after inspiring figures, including Nelson Mandela, Jimmy Hendrix, Mother Teresa, and Abraham Lincoln.

Along the office perimeter, floor-to-ceiling windows offer sweeping views of downtown Dallas, connecting employees to the city. Partitions between the individual open workstations are low and translucent, facilitating conversation. Alternative individual workspaces include cushioned cubbies with storage underneath, walking desks with built-in treadmills below, and a variety of informal huddle spaces for team meetings. Throughout the space, walls are painted with a dry-erasable coating, allowing employees to sketch out ideas in an instant.

Sustainability was a key driver in the design: Each floor displays a variation on a sustainable design theme with recycled materials including reclaimed wood, shredded magazine panels and composite metal inlays, added Caroline Edsell, interior designer with BOKA Powell. A series of plaques displayed throughout the office tell the story behind the sustainable materials, which include countertops made from blue Skyy vodka bottles, wood walls reclaimed from agricultural mills, and flooring made from Sustainable Forestry Initiative-certified recycled wood chips.

An interlocking hexagon motif in the floor tiles and ceiling cloud design is reminiscent of the way Lanyons teams connect and collaborate. Live plants add a touch of green and whimsy in interchangeable, magnetic wall-mounted planters.

Moving our headquarters to Dallas allows us to contribute to the revitalization of Dallas Central Business District, said David Bonnette, Chief Executive Officer of Lanyon. We needed to engage creative leaders and leverage our employees ideas to create work environments that represent our brand, values and commitment to sustainability all connecting back to our corporate vision. Our new space offers countless opportunities for collaboration and is a great showcase for both current and prospective employees.

Employees and visitors navigate the space through the use of color and the erosion of the finished ceiling. We created the look of exposed ceilings in this modern building by strategically removing ceiling tiles as people approach more collaborative areas, explained Mary Valker, interior designer with BOKA Powell. The space gets more raw and open as people advance deeper into the space and closer to meeting rooms, drawing activity toward the center. The raw ceiling is a celebratory nod to the garage-like settings where many tech companies humbly begin.
