MCDUFFIE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW) -- Virginia Hurd planned to fix her home in time for winter. "I was looking for somebody to do some repair work," said Hurd.

So when she found a business card for Mr. Handyman inside a Terminix bag on her front door she called the number. Hurd said, owner James Hand told her he was up for the job and had actually done work for her in the past. "And that he does repair work for Terminix when there's termite damage," said Hurd.

She said she agreed to have Hand, write a contract to install wood and plastic around her screened in porch, install gates on her deck, and underpinning underneath her home. The completed job would cost $1,250. "When I'd come home in the evening, he'd be out there. He'd have his Terminix truck backed into my front yard and he'd be working out of it," said Hurd.

She said in the end, the work was shoddy. Hurd said she tried for weeks to get Hand to handle the problem, with no luck. "I told him that if he didn't get in touch with me I was going to call 12 On Your Side," said Hurd.

But first, Hurd said she contacted his full time employer, Terminix. We did too.

In a statement, Terminix says: All employees of Terminix Service, Inc. sign an agreement stating that he will not 1) during recognized business hours, or at any other time, perform services for any person, firm, or corporation not authorized by the Company during the term of his employment; and 2) not either directly or indirectly solicit work for or accept business from any customer of the Company either for himself or for others during employment with the Company. While we cannot discuss specific personnel issues, the employee in question is no longer employed by our franchise. We apologize for the inconvenience this presented to Ms. Hurd. She is a long-standing customer of Terminix, and we look forward to continuing to provide excellent service to her and our other valued customers.

Hand called Hurd while we were there. "He (Hand) called and he said he just got fired, and he'd be over here this afternoon because he wants to make it all right," said Hurd.

This afternoon we did reach Hand by phone. He admitted he worked for Terminix, but did contracting jobs on the side. He also said, This had nothing to do with Terminix. I blame News 12 for getting me fired."

Meanwhile, Hurd admits she made some mistakes, like not getting a contract with company letterhead or even a signature from Hand. In the end, she said she did what she had to do. "I didn't want him to get fired, so I do feel bad about that, but he brought it on himself," said Hurd.

The natural grass surface at Bank of America Stadium will receive a makeover before the second of two games at the facility in a five-day span.

Workers were scheduled to begin resodding the middle of the field about two hours after the end of Tuesdays Belk Bowl matchup between Georgia and Louisville.

With favorable weather forecast for the next two days, Carolina Panthers officials are confident theyll have time to lay the sod a 16-yard-wide swath stretching the length of the field and get the field marked and painted with NFL hash marks and logos before the Panthers playoff game Saturday against Arizona.

Were honestly just doing it now because its a playoff game. We want everything to be as good as it can be, head groundskeeper Tom Vaughan said of the resodding. Playoff games are a big deal.

With rain in the forecast Friday and Saturday, the Panthers grounds crew expects to cover the field with tarps Friday afternoon, per NFL rules. Officials say the turf will be in good shape.

Workers laid 70,000-square feet of new sod at the stadium after the Democratic National Convention in 2012, six days before the Panthers home opener.

Vaughan is not concerned about players losing their footing on the heavy, durable sod.

When its down, its down, he said. The products designed for this. Thats the good thing about it.

REDLANDS A Victorian edifice that has launched many weddings is marking a 40th anniversary today.

Edwards Mansion opened as a restaurant Dec. 31, 1974. It was a project of the late Don Wilcott and is still run by his family as a private events venue.

The three-story, 14-room structure sits near the San Bernardino County Museum on the north side of Interstate 10. But it was erected in 1890 a few miles away, on Cajon Street south of the freeway near the city center.

It was built for citrus grower James S. Edwards, according to the Edwards Mansion website.

Sue Wilcott, Dons widow, said in a phone interview that she grew up across the street from the residence and marveled at its size. But it didnt become part of her life until Don bought the structure for $1 and moved it to orange groves across town for $60,000 in the summer of 1973.

Son Chris, who now runs the business, was 8 at the time and watched it being hauled on flatbeds through city streets after it was cut in two.

MANILA A feng shui practitioner has suggested eight ways to welcome the New Year, saying these will help attract more luck and blessings.

Here are Hanz Cuas tips, which range from cleaning the house and wearing certain colors to serving specific types of food:

1. General cleaning

Do a general cleanup of both the inside and outside of your house before New Years Day, Cua said, noting that broken objects and shabby surroundings invite poverty, according to feng shui.

After getting rid of dirt and clutter, complete the cleanse by burning incense, he said.

2. Wear red and green

Cua said red symbolizes power, while green stands for wealth.

3. Get a new haircut

Cua said a new haircut will activate the peach blossom star of romance in feng shui, which is ideal for singles who are hoping to find their special someone.
