SOUTH WINDSOR The clergy and congregation of St. Peters Episcopal Church will be celebrating their 50th anniversary at the current location during services Sunday.
Weve had a good focus of sharing Christs love with each other and the community around us, Rector Thomas White said. I think thats important to continue to do.
Services are held at 8 and 10 a.m. every Sunday. White said that the most special time Sunday would be when members of the parish speak about what St. Peters has meant to them over the years.
The special anniversary service will take place during the 10 a.m. service Dec. 21.
The building, at 109 Sand Hill Road, was built in 1964 after the church was organized at Wapping Elementary School two years prior.
The parish hall was added in 1967, and is used to host various community organizations, including Boy Scout meetings, suppers, and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
Organizations are not charged a fee for use of the space, but they often make donations, White said.
The education wing was built in 1987 and the parking lot was redone about 20 years ago, White said. Prior to that, parishioners parked on an unpaved lot, which often would get muddy in the rain.
The pews in the sanctuary are original, but the altar has been replaced to match the churchs architecture. Likewise, the original pipe organ was replaced with an electric organ about 15 years ago.
Included on the roughly 10-acre lot is a memorial garden, where 14 people have their ashes interred.

A house that caught fire Friday afternoon appears to be vacant. Investigators say the home at 39th & Crown Point was undergoing some sort of rehabilitation or remodeling when the flames broke out.
The house appears to be a total loss. Damage was extended into the attic. WOWT 6 News also observed fire crews dealing with a broken hose line. That caused a slight delay in knocking the fire down. It was under control within about ten minutes.
Bad thing is when those things are allowed to burn for a longer period of time, it gets into your attic space and voids, so thats what took us a little bit of time to kind of knock some of that down, now you are pulling ceiling and as you can see we are pulling siding, Rob Gottsch, a Battalion Chief with the Omaha Fire Department said.
There were no reports of injuries. Investigators hadnt yet determined a cause.

Winter is a difficult season for birds who stick around in northern climes. They need extra stamina to keep themselves warm, just at the time of year when their usual foods are in short supply. Feeding the birds in winter is a kindness not only to our feathered friends, but also to yourself. The sight of a hungry flock helping themselves at your outdoor bird feeder is a special snowy weather pleasure. Just be sure that you place feeders in a spot which is sheltered from the worst of the wind, and that you make healthy food choices. Here are some inspiring winter bird-feeding ideas from Hometalk members.
1. Make Suet to Enrich the Birds' Diet (Winter Only)
Birds need extra fat and protein in the wintertime. Fatty treats like oil sunflower seeds, peanuts, and suet are a tasty way to provide these nutrients. (Change the menu in favor of lighter fare when the spring thaw comes along.) Better Hens and Gardens invented her own homemade suet recipe for feeding birds in winter. We think of it as avian energy bars.
2. Craft a Seed Wreath from Repurposed Garden Trimmings
If you love animals, chances are you're also fond of gardening and repurposing. Combine these three passions by recycling fall seed heads from your flower bed to make a nutritious bird-feeding wreath. PS: Flower seeds are some of birds' favorite native foods. Home-ology twines her leftover seed heads into grape vine wreaths, for a bird food source that is both pretty and practical.
3. Hang up a Covered Bird Feeder
Use a bird feeder equipped with a roof, to shelter your guests from all but the harshest weather that Mother Nature has in store. Fill it up regularly and remember to remove any seeds that get moldy from wintry damp. These bird feeding tips are offered by New House New Home, who lives in Canada and knows a thing or two about frosty winter climate.
4. Teach Your Children
Try a do-it-yourself bird-feeding project designed to teach your children that being kind to animals is an important value, and a lot of fun, besides. Dagmar's House showed youngsters how to make these easy DIY seed caddies as a 4H Club project ... out of pinecones!
