Skanska USAs Orlando office was awarded a key contract for Osceola Countys planned Florida Advanced Manufacturing Research Center on Monday.

The contract amount is up to $10 million for preliminary design and building services. Construction is expected to cost about $70 million, and total project cost is expected to climb to $270 million over time.

The Osceola Board of County Commissioners approved a staff recommendation to award the contract to Skanska with no discussion at a regular meeting on Monday evening.

Skanska USA is an affiliate of a Swedish corporation, with a large office in Orlando. The company is riding high with big local contracts, having lead the consortium of companies that won the $2.3 billion Interstate 4 construction contract (Ultimate I-4) in September.

The center would build and research high-tech computer sensors used to gauge environmental factors like temperature, light or sound for data used in cars, smartphones, surgical devices, appliances and other technology.

Skanska was ranked first out of eight national construction companies, over Hensel Phelps, Barton/Malow and DPR Construction. Barton and DPR were tied for third place in the recommendation.

According to an evaluation sheet, Skanska scored 90 out of 100 total points in the panel evaluation. That included 26 out of 30 possible points in the most important category, Experience and Assigned Personnel. Second-place Hensel Phelps scored 87 total points.

The project, originally announced in June, is expected create a new hub for manufacturing, attracting thousands of jobs. Site work on the project began with a ground-breaking in October, where Osceola County and the University of Central Florida

Originally aimed at producing smart sensors, the facility may also include a broader focus on photonics. The site of the advanced manufacturing center is 20 acres owned by Osceola County near the intersection of U.S. 192 and Floridas Turnpike the former Judge Farms property.

TULSA, Oklahoma -

The Tulsa Public School board is scheduled vote on a record bond issue package at their meeting Monday evening. School officials say the $415-million bond issue would allow the district to upgrade almost all of its facilities.

Tulsa Public Schools officials say the east side of town has been growing fast and the district needs to find options to accommodate all the new students associated with that growth.

If the school board says 'yes' Monday and if voters then approve on March 3, 2015, the bond issue would address a number of issues according to the district:

Officials say technology is also a part of the bond issue with about $150 per student set aside for access to computers or tablets.

Tulsa Public Schools says because this bond issue would take the place of retiring bonds it will not raise property taxes for city of Tulsa voters.

Monday's meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the district's Education Service Center at 3027 South New Haven Avenue.

IF theres a new transfer window on the horizon then there must be a Peter Crouch transfer story following close behind.

Its in the rules, we all know that, and the first stories to surface have him linked to both QPR and Crystal Palace.

Nothing particularly new in those links given Harry Redknapp is still at Loftus Road and Tony Pulis was recently at Selhurst Park.

The question is: Will Stoke sell in January?

With six months left on his contract it makes financial sense to pocket what could be a couple of million.

But a couple of million is a drop in the ocean these days, and the loss of Crouch midway through a season, one that could still go either way, would be a massively brave step.

Surely, given the playing resources at his disposal, Mark Hughes could only begin to consider selling Crouch if he had a replacement lined up this January.

And a replacement that would bring height, strength and some kind of goal pedigree to his forward line.

Keeping Crouch for the second half of the season would also allow Stoke to keep their options open on whether they want to eventually offer a new deal to a player celebrating his 34th birthday on January 30.
