Hail, Caesar is one of the four preconstructed Commander decks released as a part of Magic: The Gathering's Universes Beyond collaboration with Fallout. The cards in the deck are based around various militaristic factions throughout Fallout such as the namesake Caesar's Legion and the Raiders, Tunnel Snakes, and the Brotherhood of Steel.

The deck is a Mardu (red/white/black) deck that is built around amassing a giant battlefield of tokens. There is also a sub-theme of sacrifice with multiple cards that benefit from creatures dying. The deck introduces many new cards to Magic: The Gathering, many of which can find a home in many different decks.

Mr. House, President And CEO is a creature that cares about dice rolling. It turns all of your dice rolling into a board presence with 3/3 tokens with the potential to ramp you with Treasure tokens as well.

Notably, Mr. House, President And CEO doesn't care about what kind of dice you roll. While the card itself rolls a d6, its effect will still go off if you roll a four or six or higher with a d20, of which many Magic cards can do to easily trigger Mr. House's effects.

Token decks often generate a ton of creature tokens of varying stat lines. Elder Arthur Maxson helps your weaker tokens grow into bigger threats by giving them training. It's easy to keep Elder Arthur Maxson on the battlefield thanks to its effect to give itself indestructible.

Many token decks can also veer into a sacrifice theme, since they make for great sacrifice fodder. Elder Arthur Maxson is a way to trigger all your sacrifice triggers, as it can sacrifice creatures for no mana cost. Although there are better options for this, in a pinch, Elder Arthur Maxson can work just fine.

As with the game, Mysterious Stranger can come out of nowhere and save the day to keep you safe. There is a bit of luck involved with it, as the instant or sorcery it copies is random, but has the potential to turn the tides of a game.

Mysterious Stranger has decent stats as well, making it a good blocker to potentially trade with another creature. The card it copies can also play into it depending on what is in the graveyard. It has a low floor, but a very high ceiling where if the right spell is copied, it could be game-winning.

If you are playing a deck with many ways to put creatures with three or less power on the battlefield, Overseer Of Vault 76 is the card for you. If your deck has weaker creatures, you can easily put quest counters on Overseer Of Vault 76 to later pump up your creatures with +1/+1 counters and give them vigilance so they can block after combat.

Since Overseer Of Vault 76 is so easy to cast, it becomes that much easier to start loading it up with quest counters early in the game. You want to keep putting counters on Overseer Of Vault 76, so you can always use its effect.

Battle Of Hoover Dam gives you two options for an effect it has, both of which are great depending on the deck it's in. Although it can only return creatures with a mana value of three or less, there are many with powerful effects that are worth bringing back if they ever get removed.

While the NCR mode is solid, Legion is much better. Whenever any creature dies, two +1/+1 counters go on a creature. Notably, this isn't once per death, so if multiple creatures die multiple triggers of the effect go on the stack, something sacrifice decks can trigger on their own.

The face commander of the preconstructed deck, Caesar, Legion's Emperor is one of the best cards. It has three different effects that trigger whenever you attack. It's important to note that Caesar, Legion's Emperor itself doesn't need to attack, only see a creature attack to sacrifice a creature to trigger its effect.

It has a wide variety of effects depending on what you need given the gamestate. You can either get a board presence, card advantage, or remove a problem creature. It wants creature tokens for its last effect, so it slots best into a deck running those.

Paladin Elizabeth Taggerdy can cheat out creatures from your hand so long as you're attacking with multiple creatures. The baseline for this effect is a creature with a mana value of three or less, but with stat-boosting cards like Auras or Equipment, the mana value can become much higher.

The creature that Paladin Elizabeth Taggerdy brings out is tapped and attacking, so if they are evasive or threatening attacks they force an answer. This does make Paladin Elizabeth Taggerdy a potential removal target, but giving it protection can let it attack recklessly.

In a creature token deck, Securitron Squadron can grow them into big threats as soon as they enter the battlefield. It gives a +1/+1 counter to a creature token, but this triggers for each copy of Securitron Squadron on the battlefield. Since it has squad, you can get as many copies of Securitron Squadron as you have mana to spend.

Even without using the squad ability, one Securitron Squadron is great for making your weaker tokens into more threatening attackers and blockers. Securitron Squadron is a great mana sink in decks that want to create a ton of tokens.

Craig Boone, Novac Guard is a creature that hangs back and dishes out damage to any creature unless the opponent takes the damage instead. The effect triggers whenever you attack with two or more creatures, but Craig Boone doesn't have to be one of those creatures for the effect to go off.

Since Craig Boone, Novac Guard only costs three mana, it can start getting a ton of quest counters early. It's trivial for Craig Boone to snowball to be able to remove any creature on the battlefield, letting it take care of any threat.

V.A.T.S. is a great removal spell that can't be responded to by any cards thanks to split second. It has the potential to destroy a ton of creatures on the battlefield, so long as they have equal toughness to each other.

While V.A.T.S. is a situational removal spell, it's not uncommon for there to be creatures with the same toughness, especially those with one or two. V.A.T.S. at its worst is an essentially un-counterable removal spell and at its best a borderline board wipe of creatures with the same toughness.

Below Deck has featured many Chief Stews since 2013, some of whom wont be part of the reality TV drama again. Like Bosuns and Captains, Chief Stews are an important part of any yacht. They manage the team of Stews and ensure the charter guests are satisfied during their stay. Over the last 11 years, many Chief Stews have appeared on Below Deck and showcased their unique management style. Some of them have failed at their jobs, while others have left a mark on the audience, leaving the show as memorable characters.

Kate Chastain is the most notable Chief Stew from Below Deck. She was part of numerous seasons and worked exceptionally well every time she returned. She maintained a great relationship with her crew and Captain Lee Rosbach, setting an example of what being a good Chief Stew is about. Like Kate, Katie Flood, Daisy Kelliher, Aesha Scott, Hannah Ferrier, Christine Bugsy Drake, Heather Chase, Natasha Webb, and a few others were also amazing as Chief Stews in their respective seasons. Unfortunately, despite popular demand, some of them will never return to Below Deck.

Natasha Webb wants nothing to do with Below Deck Mediterranean. The former Chief Stew was a great crew member on Captain Sandy Yawns yacht. She handled her role perfectly and didnt let any issue stop her from fulfilling her duties. The last time Natasha appeared on Below Deck Med, she had a controversial relationship with Chef Dave White. The whole thing left such a bad taste in her mouth that she decided to skip the reunion, and later, she revealed she wouldnt return. Natasha has moved on with her musician boyfriend, Max Landry, since.

Francesca Rubi was another exceptional Chief Stew on Below Deck. She was an irreplaceable part of Captain Lees yacht and deserved to return to season 9. Instead, Francesca ditched the show and will likely never return. Captain Lee weighed in on why the former Chief Stew wouldnt return to the series. According to Monsters And Critics, he confirmed that Bravo didnt ask her to come back. Since her reality TV gig, Francesca has moved on to a new career as a pilates instructor. She seems happy with her new life.

Adrienne Gang also left Below Deck after the very first season. Her reason for leaving the show was more about how Below Deck evolved over the years. Initially, Adrienne was unhappy that Bravo didnt call her back for season 2. However, when she discovered that the show had become more dramatic and less genuine, she was happy she wasn't asked back. but now, if this is what Bravo wants? Im okay with it.

The former Chief Stew will likely never return to the Below Deck again because she doesnt like what it has become.

Heather Chase from Below Deck season 9 will also never return to the franchise again because of what transpired during her last time on the show. Heather was involved in a major feud with her co-star, Rayna Lindsey, which started when she used a racial slur while singing. One thing led to another, and the whole thing blew up, leading Heather to leave after finishing the season. In 2023, Heather revealed that she had retired from the yachting business, so returning to the show would mean coming out of retirement.

Viewers have grown so accustomed to seeing Daisy Kelliher on Below Deck Sailing Yacht that theyve forgotten that season 1 featured Jenna MacGillivray as the Chief Stew. Jenna was part of Captain Glenn Shephards original crew and did her job well. However, Bravo never called her back, and it doesnt look like shed ever return to the series again. According to Monsters And Critics, a producer shared that Jennas romance with Chef Adam Glick was a big reason the network didnt consider her for season 2.

Faye Clarke from Below Deck Adventure may never return to the series since the spin-off show will likely never get a season 2. In 2023, Faye addressed her future in the series, stating that shed be open to returning to the franchise when the show returns for season 2. Unfortunately, Bravo decided not to greenlight Below Deck Adventure season 2 and later asked Captain Kerry Titheradge to handle their main series.

If the network wanted Faye back, they wouldve called her for another spin-off months ago. However, her absence proves that shed likely never be back on the series again. Plus, Faye recently welcomed a baby, so the new mom is probably done with her days as a Chief Stew.

Kate had an amazing run on Below Deck. She was Chief Stew for six seasons and set the bar high with her performance. Over the last few years, Kate has distanced herself from the series but still stayed in touch with her crew members.

She became a mother and focused on her other business ventures.

In August 2023, Bravo TV reported if Kate would ever return to Below Deck. She jokingly said, If thats the uniform, I would, stating that if Below Deck allows her to sport the uniform from Project Runway, shed consider returning.

Even though Hannah was a consistent Chief Stew during her five seasons on Below Deck Mediterranean, shed never return to the series. She couldnt return to the spin-off because the last time she was on the show, Captain Sandy fired her for having valium on the yacht. Besides, Hannah has admitted that shed only return to the series if Captain Lee or Captain Jason Chambers from Below Deck Down Under asked her to help them out. Her chances of returning are slim since Captain Lee has retired from Below Deck.

Below Deck: 8 Chief Stews Who Will Never Return To The Franchise - Screen Rant

After recently releasing a big Stable Steam Client update for Steam Deck and Desktop PCs, I highlighted that Remote Play was broken on Steam Deck - and so Valve has now fixed it.

Initially putting out a quick Beta update, and then very shortly after putting it into Stable so all users will be able to update now and have working Remote Play. I've tested it across a couple titles from my desktop Linux PC to the Steam Deck, and yup visual, audio and input are all working properly with no more infinite Steam loading screen.

Nice to see Valve get such a big feature fixed up, still a shame to see the initial update rolled out with it broken though. So hopefully checks will be done to prevent this in future.

This is great, as Remote Play is such an incredibly useful feature for when you want to run some bigger games smoother on Steam Deck and you have a PC, so you can sit somewhere super comfortable and just stream it instead of sitting at a desk.

With hall-sensing analog sticks in addition to powerful hardware under the hood, this handheld has to be one of the best ones that weve seen around so far. From its exquisite build quality to the power under the hood, the Ayaneo 2 has it all, if you can live without the trackpad seen on a Steam Deck.

In our testing, the handheld managed to handle all manner of games, including Cyberpunk 2077 at 60 FPS. Since it has a higher resolution than the Steam Deck, you can also run titles with gorgeous high resolution, afforded by the bezel-less IPS display. The Ayaneo can run you around $949, so you will be paying for the privilege.

The Ayaneo Air Pro isnt as powerful as the Steam Deck, and while it does come in at $600, it provides a similar performance to its Valve counterpart. Ayaneo has a bigger range of consoles, with a far deeper user interface for gaming purposes.

In our testing, we found that it could handle things like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077, while smaller indie titles ran almost flawlessly after pushing the power consumption up a little bit.

What youll find with the Ayaneo Air Pro is a much smaller, slimmer design compared to the Steam Deck. While it might not be as powerful, it makes for an excellent Windows gaming device at 720p. It also helps that it comes equipped with a delightful OLED screen.

The two OneXPlayeron handhelds we recommend as Steam Deck alternatives are the Mini editions, sporting either an Intel i7-1260P and Intel Xe graphics, or AMD 6800U with RDNA 2 graphics.

Both of these devices are absurdly powerful in what they sport outside of the specs. The USB-4, as well as supporting up to 100W GaN charging and it has Wi-Fi 6. This should ensure that transferring data, charging and even your downloads will all be excessively quick on the right hardware setup.

These devices are a little bit more expensive, but with the Steam Deck lagging behind in certain specs, it can be a decent alternative to gun for.

Performance on these devices is exceptional, with similar performances to that of the Steam Deck, thanks to the inclusion of RDNA 2 on the AMD unit. The Xe graphics from Intel will get you into most games at a lower resolution without much hassle.

Yes, it was going to make an appearance as an alternative. While the Nintendo Switch might be getting on in years, for those who want that same bounty of games to take with you on the go, this is the way forward.

The three different versions of the Switch, including the Switch OLED, will all provide the same performance, but the Lite cannot be connected to the TV.

Nintendos current pricing is still considerably lower than Valves Steam Deck, with a lot of the games youd be looking to play on the go, also available at much worse resolutions on the Switch.

However, having direct access to the Switchs exclusives, like Zelda, Mario and Bayonetta make the Switch still a complete no-brainer.

Theres also the added benefit of access to the Nintendo Switch Online game libraries if youre an Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack member. Games spanning from the NES, SNES, N64, and even Game Boy and Game Boy Advance eras of Nintendo are playable at the touch of a button. Negating the often complicated process of setting up EmuDeck on the Steam Deck.

A great benefit of buying games through the Switchs eShop is the collection of gold coins, which you can then transfer over into your local currency to get discounts on games.

Originally announced on April Fools, Asus quickly picked up the slack to confirm that the Asus ROG Ally was real all along.

While we probably wouldnt recommend it as a true alternative to the Steam Deck over the others on this list, the Asus ROG Ally has some impressive specs and performance that others cant match. Weve detailed this further in our review.

Now that were into 2024, there are an awful lot of MTG sets to look forward to. Between Modern Horizons 3, Fallout, and Pioneer Masters, this year is absolutely stacked. Beyond all the supplemental releases, however, there are also plenty of premier sets to look forward to. One such set is Outlaws of Thunder Junction.

Releasing as the second Premier set of 2024, Outlaws of Thunder Junctions release is fast approaching. With just over a month until release day, Wizards has steadily begun releasing new information. This kicked off during MagicCon: Chicago, where players got their First Look at the set.

As the next premier set on the horizon, theres understandably a lot of interest in Outlaws of Thunder Junction. Since this set is practically three releases in one, it definitely has a lot going for it! While Bloomburrow may be stealing its thunder somewhat, theres still plenty of reason to be excited.

Whether youre looking to join the Wild-West hype train or just keep up to date, weve got you covered. Heres everything you need to know about Outlaws of Thunder Junction!

Thankfully, following The Preview Panel at MagicCon: Chicago, we can put to bed any speculation. All the important dates for Outlaws of Thunder Junction have been confirmed! With a plethora of preview and gameplay dates to look forward to, theres a lot on the calendar.

Due to being a long way from release, story chapters for Outlaws of Thunder Junction have not been released yet. Given past precedent, players can expect to see these before spoiler season starts in early March. While this is still a way away yet, theres still some information to pick apart.

According to Wizards of the Coast, Outlaws of Thunder Junction is the final set within the Omenpath arc. This means that players should be able to expect some big happenings and some potentially major reveals. That being said, however, the Omenpath Arc is only act one of the larger Metronome storyline which lasts until 2026.

Within the set, villains from across Magics multiverse have all flocked to Thunder Junction to duel it out. Traveling via Omenpath, its unclear exactly why MTGs villains are congregating here, however, theres sure to be a good reason. Whether its for a magical McGuffin or just for fun, this set is sure to be an absolute romp.

Curiously, Outlaws of Thunder Junction wasnt originally just one set. Instead, according to Wizards, it was originally planned to have an Aftermath-style follow-up Micro Set. Dubbed The Big Score, this set would continue the sets story and finish it with a flourish. Unfortunately, due to the reaction to March of the Machine: The Aftermath, this planned extra release was quickly scrapped.

Rather than abandoning all the work that had been done, Wizards has smushed the two sets together. This process gave The Big Score a new alternative name The Vault, which annoyingly can be used interchangeably. Thankfully, while the name may be an oddity, cards from The Big Score are easy to identify since they have their own set symbol.

In total, The Big Score contains 40 cards, each one of which is Standard legal. The cards themselves can be found where The List would usually appear within Play Boosters. For better or worse, this means that The List has been mostly replaced in Outlaws of Thunder Junction. To add one last confusing piece of the puzzle, Special Guests cards still exist for the set.

In terms of the cards themselves, weve only seen two from The Big Score right now. These cards are Sword of Wealth and Power

Helldivers 2 fans are no strangers to innovating on the battlefield, but one player has made calling in support from Stratagems easier than ever before. After dropping down onto whatever besieged planet catches their attention, Helldivers are provided access to a range of Stratagems that involve plugging in a series of inputs for their orbiting Destroyer to send down equipment, supplies, and even deadly explosives. In the heat of battle, that process can be rather difficult, but fortunately, for some players, it just got much simpler.

Shown off in a TikTok video by user dankischillin, the industrious Helldivers 2 fan has mapped the various Stratagems to dedicated buttons on their Stream Deck, a peripheral that's usually used by streamers to control the components of their system without needing to delve into the various pieces of software at work.

Mapping the Stratagems to the various macro buttons on the Stream Deck means that entire bombing runs can be called with a single press of a button. Dankischillin even went one step further to include the icons for their Stratagems on the Deck, meaning they'll always know what each button does.

The TikToker provides an innovative solution to calling down extra support during a tense firefight, something Helldivers 2 players need to do as often as possible if they want to survive the hordes of enemies attacking Super Earth. Upon starting the game, Helldivers will have access to just a handle of Stratagems including a Precision Orbital Strike and a Machine Gun. As they complete missions and liberate planets, players will be able to unlock more powerful tools like an Eagle Airstrike, an Orbital Laser, and even a small "Guard Dog" sentry robot that fires at foes automatically.

While there are already dozens of unique Stratagems available in Helldivers 2, fans are looking to the future. Developer Arrowhead has confirmed that as a part of the game's live-service model, it will be adding more Helldivers 2 Stratagems in future content updates. Some players took this hint and ran, datamining files to reveal that mech suits will soon be added to the game as an item that can be called down from orbit, prompting a great deal of excitement from the community.

As Helldivers 2 continues to be one of 2024's most surprisingly successful games, the community is finding unique ways to celebrate its satirical take on sci-fi shooters. One dedicated supporter went so far as to create their own Super Earth broadcast, a TikTok channel that provides followers with updates on the fictional galactic war. With the invention of Stream Deck Stratagems, it seems like the war effort is stronger than ever.

Stewardess Cat Baugh hasnt made the best impression among Below Deck viewers, but anything can happen in the next few episodes.

One of the many newcomers making their debut in reality TV this season is Cat Baugh. She is making her mark as a Stewardess under the leadership of both Chief Steward Fraser Olender and Captain Kerry Titheradge.

Within the first few episodes of the season, Cat has opened up about her personal life on-screen. She revealed to the audience that both of her parents died, she ended up in foster care, and she was separated from her brother as a result of her foster family.

We were [in the same state]. But they wouldnt even let me talk to him because he wasnt religious. It was that extreme of a religion that they wouldnt even let me speak to my own biological brother, she vented in Episode 3.

While viewers can appreciate her being vulnerable enough to share her life story, they arent sure that this show is the right idea for her or any show for that matter.

Never leave your Vault without a trusty Pip-Boy 3000. This handy piece of equipment is useful for so many things, whether that's to fill your graveyard with discarded cards, add +1/+1 counters, or to untap two of your lands to ramp out an enormous beast.

The best of the three options is probably to untap your land, but the flexibility of Pip-Boy 3000 just can't be overlooked. It fits everywhere, and it's an especially great card for the equipment-focused Scrappy Survivors deck.

Veronica is another great choice for those looking to fill their graveyard with useful stuff. She's got Menace, making her a little easier to attack with, and whenever she swings, you get to discard and draw a card.

The cool thing is when you discard a non-land card, you create a Junk token. This Junk token will then let you exile the top card of your library and play it that turn. This effectively gives you an extra draw, and it also pairs well with any cards that toy with playing cards from anywhere other than your hand (like Laelia, the Blade Reforged).

For two mana, Well Rested does a lot. Whenever the create untaps, it gets two +1/+1 counters, you gain two life, and you draw a card. Sure, it can only happen once per turn, but that's still a lot for two mana and a single card.

The obvious method of untapping is the turn after attacking, so haste is definitely a keyword to pair with Well Rested. Other than that, something that can tap a creature the turn it comes into play can help build your Well Rested counters the turn after it comes into play rather than two turns later.

Indestructible remains one of the more important keywords in Magic. Being unable to die has its perks, as does having ten toughness and nine power. Sure, it's not ten power, but Almost Perfect is still going to turn whatever you cast it on into a terrifying monster. And being able to do it for just six mana is a pretty sweet deal.

The only problem with Almost Perfect is the enchantment itself remains vulnerable even as the creature it enchants becomes indestructible. Luckily, there are more cards in Scrappy Survivor to keep Almost Perfect around even if it eats a Disenchant.

Just as he is in Fallout 4, Codsworth is an incredibly useful Robot to have around. He makes your commander harder to kill, provides two white mana for auras and equipment spells, and lets you re-attach auras and equipment whenever you want (provided it's on your turn).

Clearly, Codsworth is at his robotic best when assisting a deck focused on auras and equipment, which Scrappy Survivors most certainly is. That said, Codsworth is also great in aura-centered white and green decks, giving him a measure of versatility that you won't find in cards like Yenna, Redtooth Regent or Mazzy, Truesword Paladin.

Preston's color-fixing ability is nice, but if you've already cast this three-color Legend, then you've probably already got a decent mana base. What really makes Preston exciting is his ability to untap every enchanted permanent you own.

After a few turns, Preston will go from a mere 4/4 Human Soldier to someone who can help pump out truly awe-inspiring spells requiring a ton of mana. Or he can untap your army of enchanted critters to attack again with the help of another card in Scrappy Survivors, Grim Reaper's Sprint.

For years, Swiftfoot Boots have been the standard footwear for any commander. The Silver Shroud Costume might finally be about to change that. Yes, you lose haste and the more reliable hexproof keyword, but the Silver Shroud Costume can come into play at instant speed, foiling whatever dastardly attempt at removal your opponent has enacted.

On top of that, the Silver Shroud Costume also turns your creature into an unblockable menace. For all this added utility, expect commander decks to start offering scarves, trench coats, and a fedora.

One of the problems with auras and equipment is they lose all utility as soon as the creature they're attached to beefs it. What Cass offers is insurance. As soon as your equipped or enchanted creature dies, all those auras come back to another creature, and you get to re-equip all those artifacts for free.

Add in the fact Cass is a reasonably-priced Human Ranger with four power and vigilance, and you've got the perfect addition to any deck that cares about auras and equipment--exactly what you'll find in Scrappy Survivors.

For any deck that has a lot of auras and equipment, Inventory Management is about to become an essential card. Just as with Fallout's RPGs, managing your inventory can mean the difference between life and death. You always want to have the right cards available at the right time to do the most good.

Inventory Management lets you essentially re-assign all your auras and equipment, and your opponent can't respond to this play thanks to the split second keyword. Casting this spell pauses the game, allowing you to decide where things should be placed at a leisurely pace.

Dogmeat can become a real problem real fast. Not for the player--getting this good boy down as quickly as possible should be priority number one. It's your opponents that'll rue the day they crossed this junkyard dog.

As soon as Dogmeat hits the table, he mills five and fetches an aura or equipment from the graveyard. Then, after you've had a chance to attach said aura or equipment, he starts producing Junk tokens with every swing. And Junk tokens essentially provide extra chances to cast spells (or play lands) every turn. It's not quite as good as drawing cards, but it's very close, and it's something you can fit into artifact strategies too. This boy deserves extra treats for everything he does.

If youre designing a home on a lot cut out of a mountainside with panoramic views of the Las Vegas Valley and the Strip below, where do you begin?

If youre Dan Coletti, the designer and builder of The New American Home 2024 in the luxury custom-home community of Ascaya in Henderson, Nev., it all starts in the kitchen.

I knew the view from the back of the lot would be great but also a little off-center to the right, Coletti says, so I put the kitchen in the left back corner of the floor plan to capture the best view.

The rest of the 7,800-square-foot, single-level floor planflowed fairly easily from there, he says. It includes an owners bedroom on the opposite end of the rear elevation that fully embraces the valley, and walls of glass at the homes entry and along the back of the house that showcase a through-view to the lights of Las Vegas and the mountain range beyond.

The homes front elevation also came together more quickly than Coletti expected. I began playing with shapes and inverting them, he says, and it started looking pretty good pretty fast, which is unusual for me. We kept working at it and I think it came together very well.

The entry, set back from the garages and a casita that flank it, is further protected by a pair of prow-like roof shapes that add distinction and weight to the otherwise all-glass faade. That form is expressed throughout the house in several other places, most prominently over a glass-enclosed wine room that juts into the main living area, as an indoor-outdoor wet bar adjacent to the kitchen, in the shower enclosure in the owners bathroom, and in the staggered roof forms stepped along the rear elevation (photos, below).

Colettis Sun West Custom Homes has now delivered three New American Homes in Ascaya, each of them showcasing wood, stone, and glass to great effect.

I always try to make our houses feel like homes, not commercial spaces, Coletti says. Key to avoiding a cold, cavernous interior in an expansive home like this one is the use of those materials, which the designer says are timeless and beautiful, comfortable and familiar.

That materials choice is also evidence of Colettis penchant for creating architecture as art. Examples are in the kitchen ceilings intricate, hand-placed wood slats (photos, above) and the burnt-wood-look paneling of the owners bedroom (below).

The playful trio of floor-to-ceiling pivoting wood panels that enclose the back of the media room are another example (photo, below). The panels break up the mass of textured engineered stone in the great room, accentuating the stones beauty.

The extensive use of glass heightens the experience of transparency, with views into and along the back of the house, but it also serves to lighten the mood elsewhere. For example, instead of being concealed behind solid walls, the office (photo, above) is designed as a jewel box set off from the foyer. In a perfect world with an unlimited budget, Id never want to see a piece of Sheetrock, Coletti says.

Coletti is also drawn to fire and water, and the two elements routinely find their way into his designs. The New American Home 2024 is no exception. It features natural gas fireplaces inside and out, and open-flame fire features flank the pool and front walk.

But water as a design element in this years show home has been severely curtailed by a recent local ordinance that limits the surface area for single-family swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs to no more than 600 square feet per home. As a result, the pool and adjacent spa take up far less area than one might expect for a multi-million-dollar custom home, and other water elements in the front of the home and elsewhere, like those used in previous Sun West designs, are sadly missing.

The current water restrictions are brutal here, Coletti laments. But we didnt have a really big backyard for this house, so the size of the pool feels appropriate.

As many New American Homes as Sun West has produced (and will again in 2025), Coletti and his team respect the fact that all eyes are on them when thousands of home builders and designers tour the home during the 2024 International Builders Show looking for ideas they can apply in their own markets and price points.

But while the extensive use of natural materials, the detailed craftsmanship, and products such as a ceiling-mounted kitchen faucet and a 136-inch direct-view home video display (see above) are sure to wow them, Coletti thinks some of the key takeaways from this years New American Home are more subtle and perhaps more applicable across the residential spectrum.

Things are always changing, the products are always getting better, and the variety of products you can pull into a residential project is ever expanding, he says. This is evident not only throughout this years show home but alsoand perhaps more soin whats hidden behind the finishes.

Weve learned so much about energy efficiency since the 2020 house [the last New American Home completed by Sun West]. The products are so much better, as is our understanding of them and how they work together, he says. And thats something you can put in a 3,000-square-foot home or a 30,000-square-foot home and get the same impact.

The New American Homes floor plan is designed to capture dramatic views, deliver comfort and privacy, and facilitate casual entertaining inside and out. Surrounded by stone walls and a dramatic overhang, the main entry A is all glass, providing a direct sight line from the front walk through the great room to the view of the Las Vegas Valley beyond. An attached casita B is separated from the main house by a garage to create privacy for guests or to enable it to be used as a working office or studio. A subtle but well-appointed drop zone C is conveniently located to serve both the front entry and the family entry from the garage, while the adjacent wine room D juts out, making a statement. The placement of the kitchen E provides a direct view to the valley below, even through the telescoping windows of the indoor-outdoor wet bar. The owners bedroom F, equipped with floor-to-ceiling patio doors that pocket away, affords an unobstructed view and leads out to one of two fire pits G flanking the pool.

What we know about vacancy, its sweeping views of Denver, and how the property managers plan to keep the building from killing migrating birds.

More than 400 workers have been busy building what will likely be one of the hottest or at least most distinct places to live in Denver, a rising building thats been making I-70 travelers wonder: Is that building fine art or just broken?

One River North, the 16-story apartment building with a giant canyon filled with plants carved down the center, will open this spring on the outskirts of Elyria Swansea, in the River North Art District.

The project is a joint effort between the Max Collaborative, Uplands Real Estate Partners, Wynne Yasmer Real Estate and Zakhem Real Estate Group. MAD Architects and Davis Partnership Architects designed the building, and Saunders is overseeing construction.

Plants are planted. Paints being brushed on the walls. Grouts going between the tiles. And high-end appliances are already installed in many units.

The canyons walls are curved, with a look you might find in a dinosaur-themed amusement park, a stark contrast with the mirrored, rectangular exterior. The interiors and most of the exterior, in contrast, are largely minimalist in design.

But theres a plan for keeping the lights in the building from killing migrating birds, as other Downtown buildings have.

Madeline Haslett, who will be overseeing programming in the building as the residential community director of Kairoi Residential, says the development group has been talking about the potential bird trouble.

One thing that we have talked about is figuring out kind of what that migration pattern looks like and then working with the community as a whole to ensure that lights are off at certain times to kind of help with that flow, Haslett told Denverite.

If youre hoping to join the throng, you might be in luck. The apartments are already 11% full just over a month before people start moving in.

Apartments are listed from less than $2,000 for a one-bedroom and go up to roughly $16,000 a month for a penthouse, according to Lynsee Mann, a regional manager with Kairoi.

Many of the units include stunning views of the best and worst of the Denver landscape: the Rocky Mountains, Downtown Denver, the River North Art District, along with train yards, the smelly Purina plant and the distant Sun Corps plant that has paid millions in pollution violations.

If you fear that part of Denvers industrial life is over, take a look from the trendy balcony and see just how much still exists.

Of course, that landscape could likely change in the years to come, as construction parking lots and yards filled with semi-trailers turn into new developments and the city continues to expand.
