    Brick Pavers Canton,Plymouth, Northville,Patios,Repair …

    - November 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

As snow begins to fall here this Winter in Ann Arbor, it reminds me of one of the popular questions asked by homeowners..."can I use my snow blower or have my brick pavers driveway plowed?" The answer is Yes. Brick Pavers can be treated like any other pavement.

Most brick pavers have beveled or angled edges that help create a continuance smooth surface. Any pavers that are lifted or sticking up prior to Winter should be repaired. You want to avoid any "lippage" which is the occurrence of paver edges sticking up from another paver. This "lip" can be caught by shovels, snow blowers, and snow plows. Lippage also occurs with cement slab cracks & relief joints and cracks & large ruts in asphalt. Due to Winter ground frost, the occurrence of any lifting can not be avoided.

Below are some key items to help you avoid any damage or scarring to your brick pavers, stamped or textured concrete and stamped asphalt.

Snow plowing of brick paver driveways, lots, street scapes,or parking areas may require some more special attention. Snow plowing blades that are metal can scratch, gouge, chip, or damage brick pavers. A common issue is leaving some rust stains too. This is no different that what these blades can do to cement, stamped concrete, asphalt, etc.. . No plowing contractor can guarantee that signs of plowing will not occur.

There are a couple of solutions that can minimize if not avoid any signs of damage or scratching to your brick pavers. Keep in mind that these options are not always readily available from snow plowing contractors. In most cases, these options will cost you alittle more in expense.

In conclusion, brick pavers can be treated much like other pavement surfaces. If you are concerned with any unnecessary damages or scars, then pursue the options above. Keep in mind that one of the biggest advantages of brick pavers over concrete, stamped concrete, and asphalt is that any individual pavers that are damaged can easily be replaced with no signs of repair or replacement.

Maid – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    - November 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

A maid, or housemaid or maidservant, is a female person employed in domestic service. Although now usually found only in the most wealthy of households, in the Victorian era domestic service was the second largest category of employment in England and Wales, after agricultural work.[1]

Once part of an elaborate hierarchy in great houses, today a single maid may be the only domestic worker that upper and even middle-income households can afford, as was historically the case for many households. In the contemporary Western world, comparatively few households can afford live-in domestic help, usually compromising on periodic cleaners. In less developed nations, very large differences in the income of urban and rural households and between different socio-economic classes, fewer educated women and limited opportunities for working women ensures a labour source for domestic work.

Historically many maids suffered from Prepatellar bursitis, an inflammation of the Prepatellar bursa caused by long periods spent on the knees for purposes of scrubbing and fire-lighting, leading to the condition attracting the colloquial name of "Housemaid's Knee".[2]

Maids perform typical domestic chores such as cooking, ironing, washing, cleaning the house, grocery shopping, walking the family dog, and taking care of children. In many places in some poor countries, maids often take on the role of a nurse in taking care of the elderly and people with disabilities. Many maids are required by their employers to wear a uniform.

Legislation in many countries makes certain living conditions, working hours, or minimum wages a requirement of domestic service. Nonetheless, the work of a maid has always been hard, involving a full day, and extensive duties.[citation needed]

The word "maid" itself is short for "maiden", meaning "virgin". In great houses of England, domestic workers, particularly those low in the hierarchy, such as maids and footmen, were expected to remain unmarried while in service,[3][4] and even highest-ranking workers such as butlers could be fired for marrying.[5]

Maids traditionally have a fixed position in the hierarchy of the large households, and although there is overlap between definitions (dependent on the size of the household) the positions themselves would typically be rigidly adhered to. The usual classifications of maid in a large household are:

In more modest households a single Maid-of-all-work or skivvy was often the only staff. It is possible this word originates from the Italian for slave (schiavo - owned person).

One of the most in-depth and enduring representations of the lives of several types of maid was seen in the 1970s television drama Upstairs, Downstairs, set in England between 1903 and 1936. Another representation of the lives of maids is seen nowadays in Downton Abbey, set in England between 1912 and 1922.

Apple Hill residents seek ways to prevent Bennington Solar project

    - November 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The supplemental site plan for the Bennington Solar project depicts the two separate project proposals, both located within the yellow outline, just north of the Vt. Route 279 bypass.

BENNINGTON >> Neighbors of the Apple Hill Neighborhood Association met with Vermonters for a Clean Environment on Tuesday night at the Old First Church barn to discuss options moving forward for fighting the proposed solar project just north of the Vt. Route 279 bypass, abut the Apple Hill Development.

Apple Hill Association attorney and neighborhood resident, Peter Lawrence, has established communication with the developer to mitigate concerns of the neighbors, but they just as well want to look for ways they can prevent the project from taking hold.

There is little possible to prevent the developers from coming in, because as VCE's Annette Smith pointed out, "once they get their standard offer contract, they are locked into the site the towns usually find about it months later, after it is a done deal."

The Apple Hill Neighborhood Association has not committed to intervene with opposition, mostly due to a lack of resources and money to back it up. Smith said the association members will have to be creative, finding other ways to fight the project. State investments and deed restrictions may help their case.

The 2.2-megawatt Bennington Solar facility was proposed by Chelsea Solar LLC, a subsidiary of Minnesota's largest solar project developer, Ecos Energy, which is also in the initial stages of similar-sized solar projects in Rutland and Sudbury.

All three projects followed after the new Request for Proposal process was put in place this year by Vermont's 2005 Sustainably Priced Energy Development Program, or SPEED, which set the goal of having 20 percent of statewide electricity retail sales come from renewable energy resources by January of 2017.

Chelsea Solar was awarded the projects as the lowest bidder, whereas SPEED used to award bids through a lottery. The solar company would enter into contract for 25 years with Green Mountain Power following each solar field's completion.

Land scandal may unsettle Namibia poll

    - November 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

These elections will see opposition parties hoping to cash in on Swapos shortcomings.

Swapos overwhelming majority could suffer in the Namibian elections scheduled for Friday November 28, in the wake of a rebellion among its youth wing members over the sensitive issue of land.

The backlash started when the ruling party suspended its youth league spokesperson, Job Amupanda, after he had grabbed land in one of Windhoeks upmarket suburbs.

Amupanda moved on to a vacant lot in Kleine Kuppe, which he named Erf 2014, and started clearing the ground. He was protesting against the Windhoek city councils allocation of plots to well-off individuals at discounted prices.

Citing affirmative land repositioning, he also mobilised large numbers of landless people to apply to the council for plots, warning that there would be unrest unless they received a favourable response.

Last week, hundreds of people gathered at the councils offices to submit 14000 applications for land. The municipality was given a July 2015 deadline to respond.

Amupanda, a fan of Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema, has captured the hearts of many landless Namibians with his stance.

This land uproar comes after the Windhoek council recently sold a plot to the Big Brother Africa 2013 winner, Dillish Mathews, at a discount.

Discounts for family Another plot valued at R8-million was sold to the son of the citys mayor, Agnes Kafula, for R5-million last year. It has also been reported by the Namibian that Kafula sold herself a N$1-million plot in Kleine Kuppe for only N$600000.

Scout Alarm review: DIY home security youll want

    - November 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Nate Swanner

DIY home security it seems like everyone is doing it. After being privately funded, Scout is ready to toss their hat into the ring as well. The interesting thing with Scout is that you get a bit more off-the-grid security, but still remain connected. In bridging the gap between modern hardware and software in new ways, Scout is aiming to become the new darling of the home security world. Is Scout worthy of praise, or is their system too clumsy and dated for a modern world?

When appreciating the core hardware you get with Scout, nothing stands out. Theres a hub, a motion detector, and a some door and window sensors. Its plastic, well constructed, and looks about as good as iSmartAlarms offering.

The first sign Scout wants to be taken seriously is the big protected by sign you get with the kit. Its reminiscent of the old yard signs meant to dissuade a would-be burglar.

The only other hardware youll need is your phone. Scouts app is current iOS-only, so Android fans are left wanting for now.

Scout comes in three finishes: black, white, and wood. All three options are two-tone, having a different colored core from the exterior.

Scouts app is about what youd expect, and does little more than offer a glimpse into your home security platform. Its here you can set-up, check-in, and view on.

As much as a monitor for your system, Scouts app is also a central hub. You can, with Scouts optional camera (we didnt get one for review, likely because theyre not ready yet), stream live from anywhere. You can also check on and arm/disarm your sensors, and get logged info on tripped sensors.
