Cheika sheds tears for Phillip Hughes

    - November 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Australian rugby coach Michael Cheika was brought to tears by news of Phillip Hughes' death and says the Wallabies want to pay their respects at Twickenham this weekend.

Australian players will honour the late cricketer's memory by wearing black armbands in Saturday's Test match against England while officials confirmed on Friday a minute's applause would be held prior to kickoff.

"We just want to show that we care," Cheika said on Friday.

"Show respect to the family and maybe make people remember the man for another moment."

Hughes' shock death has hit the Wallabies squad hard, even for those like Cheika who didn't know him.

"I don't know why there's that connection for some reason," Cheika said.

"I suppose being in a professional sports game as well you can really identify with that.

"I've never met Phillip but when I heard about it I cried because there's something about it that touches you and how unfortunate it is.

"Any type of respect we can show, we want to do it."

Several Wallabies players had met Hughes and he took part in a cross-sport promotional photo shoot with Israel Folau, Matt Toomua and Nic White earlier this year.

Antiques Appraiser Sheds Light on "Treasures"

    - November 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    (PRWEB) November 28, 2014

Most of the people attending a presentation by Ken Farmer of Farmer Auctions in Salem, Va. at Lake Prince Woods retirement community found out the prized possessions they had brought for appraisal had great sentimental value but wouldnt have made the cut to be on an Antiques Roadshow segment.

Farmer, well known for his expertise in decorative and folk art and his appearances on the PBS program over the past 20 years, talked about trends in buying and selling antiques. Broadly speaking the antiques market is down because the lifestyle of people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s doesnt include things like china, crystal, family furniture and other heirlooms that previous generations valued.

After the presentation Farmer appraised a number of items brought by those attending the program, including a 1953 electric guitar, a copy of George Washingtons will, a military ball program signed by Bob Hope, a Native American-made rug, and several pieces of china.

Several of the Lake Prince Woods residents in attendance jokingly said they had given away their most valuable items when they downsized to move to their current residence. Im glad I dont have all that clutter anymore, one person noted.

The homes at Lake Prince Woods have distinct floor plans designed with comfort and convenience in mind. Cottages, villas, and apartments offer generous space for active lifestyles.

Lake Prince Woods is a residential retirement community offering an array of lifestyle choices. Located in Suffolk, Virginia, the community is nestled among 172 lovely wooded acres bordering Lake Prince. As a continuing care retirement community, Lake Prince Woods offers residential living, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing care. To learn more, visit http://www.lakeprincewoods.org.

Yampa Valley Data Partners sheds light on Northwest Colorado economics

    - November 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

For this holiday season, its Yampa Valley women who have the purchasing power.

Purchasing power or real dollar values refer to the value of dollars in a single year, according to Katherine George of Yampa Valley Data Partners.

Using real dollar values allows for comparison over a number of years.

In Moffat County, womens real dollar values increased by 15 percent between 2000 and 2012, according to YVDPs Regional Economic Forecast Fourth Quarter News. But Moffat County men lost about 10 percent in purchasing power in the same period.

Routt County men had a 13 percent decline in real wages and women maintained (did not gain or lose) their real wages in the same period.

Income inequality in Colorado and in the Yampa Valley explains much of the real wage value decline, the report said. Womens growing role in the labor force also has an effect on the numbers.

Income of the richest fifth of households increased in both Moffat and Routt counties.

The poorest fifth of households lost 15 percent in income in Routt County and the poorest fifth of households income in Moffat County gained 15 percent.

Changes in the past 25 years to corporate governance and financial regulation at the macro-economic level explain the income and wage gap between the richest and everyone else, the report said.

While purchasing power has taken a hit, unemployment numbers are more encouraging.

Greenway Designation Pursued For West River

    - November 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The West River Watershed Coalition wants its namesake to be designated a state greenwayand members are trying to get all the cities in the watershed on board before it makes its case to the state.

At recent meetings of the Board of Alders City Services and Environmental Policy Committee and the City Plan Commission, New Haven moved a step closer toward authorizing Mayor Toni Harp to sign the West River Watershed Compact that would be a formal agreement of cooperation. The coalition also wants the citys support in asking the state to designate the West River a regional greenway. Both the committee and the commission gave favorable reports in support of signing such a compact. The proposal is now in the hands of the full board for approval.

The coalition is making similar appeals to officials in Bethany, Hamden, Woodbridge, and West Haven. They are all a part of the West River Watershed, which is the land through which all water in the region drains through to the New Haven Harbor. The West River Watershed is 34 square miles; it stretches 25 miles from Lake Bethany to the New Haven Harbor, according to information provided by the coalition. For years now environmentalists have pursued improvement projects along the West River, from revamping the Edgewood Park duck pond and installing self-regulating tide gates to removing the Pond Lily dam.

Martha Smith, a member of the West River Watershed Coalition (pictured addressing alders), said the coalition is seeking the compact and the designation for the river as a greenway as one more symbol that the members of the coalition work together. It also might help the watershed secure state grant funding for projects related to clean water, access, economic development and transportation, she said.

It depends on the type of greenway, but for our greenway along the West River it will be helpful applying for watershed and community grants, she said in a follow-up email. In many of these grant proposal requirements, there is a desire to see that project efforts are being performed in partnership with other organizations. Funders want to know that a project has broad support and when its evident that there has been enough of the broad organizing presence to obtain the greenway designation, it gives stronger credence that partners are working together.

Smith, along with coalition members Stacy Spell (pictured center in the top photo next to Smith) of the West River Neighborhoods Services Corporation and Joel Tolman (pictured left of Spell) of Common Ground High School, represented the coalition at the City Services and Environmental Policy Committee meeting.

The coalition is in the early stages of developing a watershed management plan. The plan is focused on issues of water quality, which can be caused by including combined sewer overflows, pet and animal waste, and even leaky septic systems.

Spell said the coalition has brought together organizations and individuals that might not normally work together and given them an opportunity to speak with one voice. Spell said the coalition has also been instrumental in educating the public, including children about the history and the ecology of a natural resource in their neighborhood.

They see the children every day, but never had a chance to be out there on it, he said of the children. It changes their mindset toward the river.

The impact on children caught the attention of Morris Cove Alder Sal DeCola said, That is a great thing, particularly for our inner city children.

No local Buffalo Wild Wings for now

    - November 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Buffalo Wild Wings, the Minneapolis-based restaurant and sports bar chain, has talked with developers of Tanglewood Pavilion but has no current plans to locate in Elizabeth Citys newest shopping center.

Chris Hake, director of retail development for Thompson Thrift, the Indiana-based firm developing Tanglewood Pavilion, confirmed his firms discussions with the popular eatery that specializes in chicken wings.

Hake said Thompson Thrift has been advised Elizabeth City is on Buffalo Wild Wings list for future expansion, but no local restaurant is currently planned.

We will continue to follow up with representatives from BWW as the project gets closer to grand opening, Hake said in a recent email.

Construction on Tanglewood Pavilion, which is located off Halstead Boulevard Extended adjacent to the Shoppes at Tanglewood, began in September and is expected to be complete by either late summer or early fall of next year.

A number of retail giants, including T.J. Maxx, Ross Dress for Less and Hobby Lobby, have already committed to locating stores at Tanglewood Pavilion. Zaxbys, the Georgia-based restaurant chain that also specializes in chicken wings, also has announced plans to build a restaurant in the new shopping center.

It was in fact a discussion about new restaurants that might locate at Tanglewood Pavilion that spurred the most recent speculation that Buffalo Wild Wings is also looking to expand here.

At a 4th Ward citizens meeting several weeks ago, Mayor Joe Peel mentioned Zaxbys commitment to build a restaurant here and then went on to say there was a possibility Buffalo Wild Wings might come as well.

City Manager Rich Olson noted that Buffalo Wild Wings has a very aggressive expansion plan in North Carolina. He also noted that Thompson Thrift representatives are in talks with the restaurant chain.

Representatives of Buffalo Wild Wings did not return repeated phone messages last week. The company did, however, respond by email, confirming what Hake had said about its current plans.

Rentokil provides Expert Advice on How to Keep Flies away during the Warmer Months

    - November 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Cape Town, South Africa (PRWEB UK) 28 November 2014

Flies are commonly associated with human food preparation and storage areas and are a source of annoyance in most kitchens, restaurants and food production facilities. They are attracted to alcohol and food waste and can rapidly increase if they have access to these food sources.

Flies also feed on faeces, manure and rotting organic produce and thus contaminate food meant for human consumption by transferring bacteria from these sources on their legs and the hairs that cover their bodies. Flies liquefy their food with their saliva and then use the tongue - which is shaped like a straw - to suck up dissolved food, in the process transmitting bacteria and pathogens.

Flies can transmit diseases such as typhoid, cholera, dysentery, tuberculosis, anthrax and paralytic worms. It is therefore wise to get rid of them as soon as possible as not only do they ruin food but they also pose a serious risk to ones health and the reputation of ones business.

Getting rid of flies entirely can be difficult however, especially during the warmer months when the breeding cycle speeds up due to higher temperatures.

Rentokil offers some fly control tips to prevent flies from becoming a serious problem this summer:

Problems with flies or a fly infestation at commercial properties can lead to an unhygienic and unhealthy environment for customers and employees. The mere sight of flies may cause damage to the reputation of an establishment. For food manufacturing businesses especially, fly control is a critical element of HACCP compliance.

Types of treatment include spraying, fly bait stations, ultra-low volume fogging and fly control units specifically designed to meet the individual requirements of each business. Regular inspections by qualified pest controllers also prevent the re-occurrence of fly infestations.

For more information on flies, visit Rentokils website or contact 0800 77 77 88 for advice and information on pest control services for both residential and commercial properties.
