Architects, builders and consulting civil engineers cleaned the city bus stand at Gandhipuram here on Sunday, as part of the Clean India Campaign.
V. Unnikrishnan, convener for the initiative here, said about 120 architects, builders and engineers were supported by nearly 50 volunteers of Round Table 31.
Staff from Coimbatore Corporation and local shop keepers joined the organisers in the cleaning drive.
The cleaning went on for about four hours on Sunday morning. We plan to organise similar cleaning drive once a month at a select public place, he said. Some of the commuters also joined us, he added.
The programme was organised by the local chapters of the Builders Association of India, Indian Institute of Architects and Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India) and the Round Table.
We were inspired the campaign launched by the Prime Minister and wanted to do something similar in Coimbatore, he said.

Historic bricks from the Roman Forum and other world landmarks were displayed in the Acme Brick Company booth at this years convention of the Texas Society of Architects (TSA) in Houston.
The brick were from Acmes Walter R. Bennett Collection which is housed at Acmes Fort Worth, Texas headquarters. Bennett, son of company founder George Bennett, traveled the world collecting bricks from every continent for his collection. Bricks on display in the Acme Brick booth at TSA are from Pompeii, the Roman Forum, the Great Wall of China, Phi Mai Temple in Thailand, the U.S. Capitol Building, Bostons Old State House, the foundation of the Statue of Liberty, Knights of Pythias Hall in Fort Worth, Texas and the Citadel Laferriere in Haiti. Bennetts goal was to demonstrate that cultures around the globe valued genuine brick as the ultimate building material. A dramatic, circular 6 x 44 photographic mural depicting these sites served as a backdrop to the collection.
The brick shown at the Houston event were protected by Pinkerton, the famed risk management agency that traces its roots back to 1850. Scott Spencer, Pinkertons Houston Operations Manager said, We were honored to be selected as the security provider for this museum-quality collection, and have a wealth of knowledge in keeping priceless collections secure while preserving the exhibit experience for all visitors to enjoy.
The TSA convention was attend by some 3,500 architects and industry professionals November 6 & 7 in Houstons George R. Brown Convention Center. Construction starts on new international terminal at Queenstown Airport
Queenstown Airport is moving into an exciting new development phase with construction starting on its new international terminal, a project which will expand the current building footprint by a third in time for next winter.
Driven by strong year-on-year international passenger growth, the 4,080sqm addition to the southern end of the terminal will double the size of the airports international operations, allowing it to better cater for existing passenger volumes and accommodate future growth.
The new building has been designed to blend in with the wider terminal but while the outer shell will be completed by June 2015, the interior will be developed in three stages.
Stage One will be ready for next winter with new international arrival and departure lounges, a new Customs area, airside retail stores, baggage claim and handling areas, a covered walkway, and office space. The changes will allow the airport to process up to 1,000 passengers per hour compared to the current 480.
Stage Two will involve spatial reconfiguration to simplify passenger flows between Customs, baggage reclaim and the Ministry of Primary Industries biosecurity area, as well as housing extra staff facilities.
While Stage Three is predicted to be several years away, it will centre around developing a mezzanine floor, potentially for more gate lounges and retail space.
Queenstown Airport Corporation (QAC) Chief Executive Scott Paterson said that more space was needed to meet the surging international demand so it made sense to be able to build a larger building shell and have time and flexibility to develop within it.
The pop-up structure we installed this winter worked really well and gave us more space for international passengers but we need permanent terminal capacity.
Our airlines are supportive of the scale of the new build which will give us the flexibility to move into the space when triggered by demand, he said.
