Construction on the installation of a storm sewer line to accommodate future work on the rehabilitation of Grove Street in Stephenville is set to start today.
Shawn Boyd of Boyd and Bungay Construction Limited said with the arrival of concrete components from Central Pre-Cast Ltd. of Lewisporte on Thursday, the company can now move ahead with construction.
The pipes for the project arrived earlier and are located in several sections near where they will be laid.
Council approved the awarding of a contract at its regular general meeting on Aug. 28 for the first phase of the work to Boyd and Bungay Construction Limited in the amount of $609,066.56.
This phase does not involve the actual rehabilitation of Grove Street, but rather the running of a new storm sewer line that will extend from near the intersection of West Street and Queen Street up to the end of Princess Avenue.
Mayor Tom OBrien said where the line will cross Queen Street and Prince Rupert Drive and run up Princess Avenue, some disruptions to traffic can be expected.
At the regular general meeting of Stephenville town council this past Thursday, OBrien and town clerk Carolyn Lidstone authorized the signing of an agreement between the Department of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs and the Town of Stephenville for these upgrades with approved funding of $742,581 to be cost-shared on an 80/20 provincial-municipal basis.
This storm sewer line is needed to handle the runoff on Grove Street. The future second phase will involve a full rehabilitation of Grove Street, including new water and sewer lines, storm sewer, curb and gutter, along with paving and sidewalks.

BEDFORD, Mich., Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Officials with a Michigan school said vandals used grass killer to carve the image of male genitals into a football field, causing four games to be canceled.
Bedford Schools Superintendent Mark Kleinhans said landscapers are using sod to repair the estimated $15,000 to $20,000 worth of damage done to the Bedford High School football field by vandals who used grass killer to put a giant image of male genitalia on the field.
Kleinhans said four games have been canceled as a result of the vandalism and officials are hoping the situation will be corrected in time for the upcoming varsity homecoming game.
Police said they are seeking warrants against two teenage suspects accused of carrying out the vandalism with the help of a 50-year-old mother.

At Alliston's Canadian tire, we can help make your backyard an oasis. What you will find in this expansive store, and particularly in the seasonal department, is a wide range of products for your outdoor living, including exterior lighting, BBQs, gazebos, outdoor furniture and even plants, flowers, trees and bushes for just about every budget.
Check out the array of practical gazebos, exterior lighting options, BBQ canopies and the wide selection of grills and accessories. Not sure whats best for your backyard? We can help.
When it comes to exterior lighting, there are some considerations to make in order to get it right. Outdoor lighting should be designed with regard to placement, intensity, timing, duration, and colour.
Five things to consider are: 1. Promote safety: lighting that is too bright interferes with the eyes ability to adapt to darker areas; 2. Save money: shielded fixtures with light efficient bulbs are more cost-effective because they use less energy by directing the light toward the ground; 3. Conserve natural resources: inappropriate or excessive lighting wastes our limited natural resources and pollutes the air and water by unnecessarily burning our limited supply of fossil fuels. Check out our dusk to dawn lights. 4. Be a good neighbour: excessive or misdirected lighting can intrude on the privacy of others when light or glare trespasses over property lines; 5. Protect ecology: artificial night lighting disrupts the migrating, feeding, as well as growth patterns of trees. At Canadian Tire, we have a huge assortment of styles of lighting that are subtle and will blend in with your landscape. Canadian Tire in Alliston can assist you in finding the right lighting products to ensure your lighting works for your backyard space.
Gazebos are a great backyard feature that adds beauty and a setting for total relaxation. When choosing a gazebo, its important to consider size (since you do not want it to take over all of your backyard space), materials (like metal for year round use), shape, what you are going to use it for, and if you require a bug screen depending on the amount of mosquitoes and other bugs your property typically gets.

Long Beach, California (PRWEB) September 15, 2014
Earlier this week, Long Beach-based demolition company Choppin Demolition Services, made public the recent expansion of their service range to include pool demolition and landscape development services for residents and businesses in Los Angeles and Orange Counties and the greater Southern California marketplace. The new service offering comes on the heels of the ever increasing demand of property owners for specialized and cost-effective swimming pool removal services and landscape development.
Commenting on the creation of this new division, Choppin Demolition Founder and CEO Scott K. Choppin declared: With the now constant drumbeat about drought conditions in California and the long-term investment that requires constant spending on pool maintenance, supplies and rising water costs, the demolition of unwanted pools has become an in-demand service for real estate owners. From owners of single family homes, to owners of thousands of apartment units, our pool demolition and landscape services division can address the concerns and needs of homeowners and apartment owners who are no longer willing to pay the high price of maintaining a pool.
According to Mr. Choppin many property owners have expressed the desire to have their swimming pools removed for different reasons: tax reduction, lower utility costs, lower insurance premiums, elimination of pool maintenance and expenses, and reduction in the use of water in times of rising water costs due to drought conditions. Choppin Demolition will professionally manage all stages of the demolition process, including building permit processing and issuance, pool draining, pool demolition, and if the owners chooses, installation of final landscape and hardscape to complete the owners vision. In fact, one of Choppin Demolition competitive advantages is their design/build capabilities related to design and installation of landscape for the property owners, including having an in-house landscape architect. Mr Choppin states: When you really think about it, folks dont envision an empty yard when they think of removing their pool. What they think about and dream about is a beautiful backyard or apartment courtyard with lush landscaping, decks, trellises, and walkways and sitting areas. Our team delivers this dream by efficiently removing the pool, then helping the owners design their dream, and delivering a fully landscaped property when we are done.
In addition to the newly-formed pool demolition division - called Division 2 within the company, the Long Beach company also offers a full scope of industrial, commercial, and residential demolition services, falling within the purview of Division 1 within the company. Choppin Demolition has established a reputation for providing uncommon and creative solutions in executing demolition projects, and for managing complex demolition projects with safety and integrity.
About Choppin Demolition Services
Since 2009, Choppin Demolition Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Urban Pacific Group of Companies, has prided itself on being a leader in demolition services in the Southern California market.
