The Wolverhampton firm that threw a ring of steel around the NATO conference in South Wales has been called in to help protect lorry drivers and tourists from desperate migrants in Calais.

Zaun, which also made and installed temporary security fences at the London Olympics, set up 13 kilometres (eight miles) of 12 ft high fencing around the Newport's Celtic Manor and key sites in Cardiff for the two-day NATO conference attended by Prime Minister David Cameron, US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Protestors failed to scale Zaun's fencing and, as a result of its success, Mr Cameron is now considering sending the fences from Wales to Calais to help with the migrant crisis for the use of French and UK border patrols.

Zaun's technical director, Alistair Henman, was asked to talk to security chiefs in Calais about how the company could help.

Its fencing would be used to create a fenced off area, manned by police, where tourists and lorry drivers would wait without being hassled by migrants trying to reach the UK.

Recent reports have suggested Calais is in the midst of a security crisis after 235 migrants clambered over fences last week and tried to storm a cross-channel ferry.

As a result the Home Office's Border Force sent the request to South Wales Police for the use of the Zaun fencing.

Chris Rowen, who was in charge of the NATO conference project for Zaun, said: "They want to discuss the various options, from an emergency 4km temporary fence to a permanent installation of 20km of fencing.

"We could have the temporary fencing installed in about six weeks, but we would need about six weeks to make the additional fencing the Home Office would need for the bigger permanent fence. That would probably take 12-14 weeks to complete."

The company said it would be 'stressing the importance of thinking through all of the options' as planning for the policing operation at the NATO conference began a year ago and involved 9,000 officers from 29 of the UKs 43 police forces.

The retirements of skilled craft workers in the construction trades have made it difficult in some cases impossible for some Colorado contractors to fill key professional positions.

About 30 percent of Colorado construction workers are near retirement age. Nearly half are at least 50 years old. Two people are retiring for every one that takes up the hammer.

But a new construction jobs portal BuildColorado.com aims to ease the pain of recruiting the shrinking pool of skilled workers to a growing number of openings and may aid in convincing some job seekers that construction trades hold long-term career potential.

The site was announced Wednesday morning by Gov. John Hickenlooper, the Associated General Contractors of America and the Colorado Contractors Association.

The website posts openings there were 95 postings Wednesday morning, some seeking dozens of workers and also encourages Coloradans to build careers in the industry.

According to the AGC, jobs in skilled trades including drywall installers, equipment operators, cement masons, carpenters, pipefitters, welders and laborers are especially tough to fill in Colorado.

Denver electrical contractor Dynalectric is having a rough time recruiting project managers, entry-level wiremen and wirewomen, and even candidates for its apprenticeship program, executive vice president Gina Cullen said.

"I can tell you that in our corner of the construction industry, with electricians, we are seeing retirement at a faster rate than we are getting new employees in the trade," she said. "There seems to be fewer qualified applicants for skilled positions, and fewer applicants in general for entry-level positions."

The flags were put up at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and will remain up until 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 14th.

4. York Habitat Gives Tribute on Construction Site Sept. 11, 2014, Windsor

York Habitat for Humanity supporters and veterans will grab their hammers and put on their work boots to help a local, lower-income family realize their dream of home ownership. In honor of those who were lost and those who have served in our military efforts, York Habitat will be dedicating a special build for this year's 9/11 Day of Remembrance. York Habitat will dedicate this special build day to honor those who bravely served and are currently serving our country. The public is invited to share in the ceremony and build a home for a family in need. Two shifts with 10 volunteers each are being offered at York Habitat's Red Lion Area School District project at 101 Schoolhouse Lane. Construction work on this property will continue with the installation of drywall during this Remembrance Day. In the end, this house will be a home for the Moffitt family. Volunteers will work from 8 a.m. to noon and noon to 4 p.m. Ten volunteers are needed for each shift and spots are still available. The build is on rain or shine.
