PALM COAST Flagler County officials expect minor service interruptions at the main branch of the library in Palm Coast as renovation projects get underway.
Work began Wednesday, said Andy Johnson, the countys special projects coordinator.
Roof repairs and flooring installation will happen simultaneously, he said in a written statement.
The childrens room will be closed until Sept. 5, library director Holly Albanese said.
The garden room will also be closed as it will serve as storage for furniture and bookshelves that have be moved.
Well be getting our meeting room back, with the elections over, she said by phone Monday. Everything has to be packed, so theres not much left in the room.
Likewise, all the books may not be back on the shelves by the reopening of the room.
There is a lot to do, Albanese said.
It will be repainted, and while much of the library is getting new carpeting, the childrens room will get vinyl plank tiles that look like hardwood but will be easier to clean.

The Students Association office is undergoing renovation and is being relocated to improve operating efficiency and accessibility to students.
Rodney Johnson, president of Students Association, and the incoming 2014-2015 Executive Cabinet collectively made the decision earlier this year to renovate the office as well as the entire Student Life section of the campus basement.
Johnson, senior finance major from Odessa, believes the offices renovations will allow students to better connect with ACUs student organizations.
The vision behind remodeling the Students Association office is achieving improved efficiency, increased student interaction and more exposure to the Students Association, he said. It is our goal to reach as many students as we can, and the new office is designed to help serve that purpose.
Rudy Garza, chief communications officer of Students Association, also believes the remodeling will facilitate greater student involvement and provide more effective service to the student body.
Well have more effective co-working spaces for both Congress and the Executive Cabinet, Garza said. The layout will be similar, with the addition of an administrative workroom for congressmen and an office for each executive officer. These improvements will greatly improve the workflow efficiency.
Garza, junior marketing major from Corpus Christi, is also excited about the new location of the office.
Unlike our old offices that were hidden in the back corner of the Campus Center basement, the new offices will be at the forefront of the basement, surrounded by other Student Life offices.
Johnson said ACU is fully funding the project as a part of the entire Student Life basement remodeling. Johnson expects the project to be completed between late September and early October.

ROSSLYN, Va.The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) announces the launch of ASC 137 Lighting Systems Committee. This committee has received approval from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Executive Standards Council as an Accredited Standards Committee (ASC). This approval is the culmination of a multi-month process and will allow the committee to write American National Standards within its scope.
According to NEMA President and CEO Kevin Cosgriff, the launch of this committee puts NEMA at the forefront of efforts for development of codes and standards for lighting systems technologies. ASC 137 will develop and approve standards under its defined scope:
To develop standards and specifications for indoor and outdoor lighting systems installed in an application with consideration of human health and comfort, personal security, the physical environment, energy consumption and daylight integration. Such a system includes components (e.g., luminaires, sensors/controllers, and windows or skylights) and associated software designed to minimize energy use while maintaining lighting quality, and that may be interconnected to provide control, monitoring functions, and interface with related systems.
Standardization for compatibility, interoperability, performance, and system security are crucial to accelerating the adoption of lighting systems, Cosgriff said.
NEMA Technical Director Megan Hayes added that development of American National Standards, via the consensus-based process approved by ANSI, will allow all stakeholders to have input into the standards being developed. This will lead to faster adoption of these critical specifications.
