Everest Industries Ltd (EIL), a manufacturer of building solutions products, expects the three new factories commissioned during the past few quarters to contribute Rs 300 crore to Rs 350 crore to its turnover in the current fiscal.

The company feels its strategy of penetrating deeper into the rural markets and expanding its dealership network is paying off with the first quarter turnover jumping nearly 30 per cent compared to the corresponding quarter last year.

Speaking to Business Line on the sidelines of the launch of colour-coated metal roofing sheets in Coimbatore on Monday, Rahul Chopra, Senior VP & Head-Roofing Business, EIL, New Delhi, said the company had commissioned the roofing plant at Baleshwar in Odisha late last year. The new plant at Dahej in Gujarat for the manufacture of pre-engineered building (PEB) solutions has begun production. A metal roofing plant had come up in Ranchi in Jharkhand. He expected these plants to contribute Rs 300 crore-Rs 350 crore to it turnover in the current financial year.

He attributed the company's Rs 84-crore jump in turnover to Rs 380.83 crore in Q1 of 2014-15 as compared to Rs 296.81 crore in the same previous period to a deeper rural penetration to push sales. The company began identifying clusters with higher population so that it could appoint distributors to service them. This led to a 20-25 per cent growth in its dealership. The company also worked on improving awareness about EIL products among potential customers. It has also provided training to around 7,500 roofing installers in the last one year.

Chopra said since February 2014 the roofing industry had consistently seen an uptick in demand and EIL had posted its highest ever sales month-after-month in so far as roofing products were concerned, including boards and panels. EIL, which witnessed a sluggish performance in the first three months of the last fiscal, witnessed a turnaround in the demand scenario in the January-March quarter of 2013-14 and the trend has been continuing. If the positive momentum is any indication, even the current months sales would be a record for EIL, though August is a traditionally sluggish month for the roofing business, he said.

He said demand was being driven by a robust rural economy, an increase in warehousing demand and a higher disposable income with the rural population, aided by the companys strategy to focus on and expand the rural reach. EIL has also introduced new products such as roofing reinforced with synthetic fibre and polycarbonate roofing. It has launched Everest Durasteel, colour-coated metal roofing sheets that offered higher durability and were `leak proof. It has already been launched in other regions and was launched in Coimbatore on Aug 25.

He said the fibre cement roofing market in India was about 40 million tonnes in size and his company has about 14-15 per cent market share in this segment. The pre-coated metal roofing market had both organised and unorganised players. EIL was among a few companies to launch branded products in the pre-coated metal roofing segment having an estimated market size of 300,000 tonnes a year. This product, being relatively new, was clocking 20-25 per cent demand growth annually, while the AC roofing industry was growing by 8-10 per cent a year.

Everest's rural push lifts roofing product sales

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga.

Gwinnett County's top prosecutor believes the state dropped the ball on their investigation into a fraudulent roofing company. Several suspects have now been charged with theft, among other charges. The charges come five years after homeowners began complaining about Pinnacle Roofing. District Attorney Danny Porter said time is running out for him to indict any of the suspects. "There are Gwinnett County victims that suffered extreme losses in this case. And I can't believe what was provided to me as an excuse for a criminal investigation, Porter told Channel 2s Kerry Kavanaugh. "Here I am, October the first, the statute of limitations runs out." Channel 2 Action News first reported about the complaints against Pinnacle Roofing in 2009. Dozens of homeowners told us at the time they paid Pinnacle thousands for roofing repairs they never got. They gave you this great story about what they were going to do and the cost of it. And of course we werent smart enough to know it was a scam, said Kathleen Williams. Williams showed Kavanaugh the contract she entered into with Pinnacle Roofing. She said the company came knocking on her Grayson door shortly after a hail storm blew through her neighborhood. The Governor's Office of Consumer Protection investigated complaints like Williams, and found victims in Gwinnett, Fayette, Henry, Clayton, Fulton, Cobb and Forsyth counties. The majority are in Gwinnett, so it's up to Porter to move the case along. "I have no explanation yet why it has taken them four years to round these people up and figure this out, Porter said. On Tuesday police arrested Scott Knoll, who they said was the company's CFO, along with William Sisson, the operations manager. Kavanaugh asked state investigators why this case spanned five years. A spokesperson with the Governors Office of Consumer Protection said in a statement that it was a complicated case. It essentially started in a bankruptcy court in Georgia with a claim that this was just another failed business venture. Disproving that claim took a long investigation that stretched from Florida to Colorado among other states and required the use of significant resources, human and financial. After we determined that there was substantial evidence of criminal behavior, we provided the case to the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office and they have agreed to prosecute. Our agency is looking forward to assisting the District Attorney's Office in this matter any way we can. Investigators said a third suspect was arrested in Montana. They are still searching for the fourth.

After several years, arrests made in roofing company complaints

Marshall County received just one bid for the replacement of the heating and air conditioning system for the west side of the courthouse, but it appeared to be good enough.

The board of supervisors approved the bid of $388,800 from Sheet Metal Engineering of Des Moines for the project, which will mirror work already done on the east side of the courthouse. The bid was approved during a regular meeting of the supervisors Tuesday. It's unclear when the project will be completed.

"We'll either get it done this fall or next spring," said Paul Zobel, buildings and grounds director with the county.

Supervisor Chairman Dave Thompson said he was pleased with the amount of the bid and the fact the same company will be doing the work.

"We are going to keep the continuity," he said.

In other action from the meeting, the supervisors approved a $10,000 raise for Jonathan Bailey as he takes over the information services department for the county on an interim basis. Zobel took umbrage with this move since he was not compensated for taking on his role on an interim basis when he took over for Todd Kelley. Zobel said the supervisors should "give very serious" consideration in treating employees the same.

Other county personnel moves also were approved Tuesday including hiring of Colleen Whitmore as a jailer ($17.08 per hour pay rate) and Jordan DeZeeuw as a deputy sheriff ($44,212 annual salary) in the sheriff's office. Promotions were also given to county employees Austin Ewalt in secondary roads and Jeremiah Manken in the conservation department.

The county also entered into a 28E sharing agreement with Warren County as each county will house a backup disaster recovery system on their site and the counties will share the cost of the equipment. This equipment allows for county business to continue operating if local equipment goes down or is unaccessible, Bailey said.

Supervisors approve courthouse HVAC replacement

Hollister-based Marcus Building Systems in 2013 was ranked 59th among metal builders in the nation for tonnage and 70th for square footage. Statewide, the local builder ranked fifth in both categories last year, according to an announcement from the business.

Those were among results listed in an annual ranking of metal builders, as put out by Metal Construction News. The figures include data for projects completed last year.

The family-run companys inclusion on the prestigious list came largely due to a contract for a cold-storage expansion at Taylor Farms in Gonzales, said Marcus Building Systems President Don Marcus, a former county supervisor.

Marcus Building Systems was a subcontractor for Dennis Group on the 140,000-square-foot expansion that included an all-steel building. The project started in November of last year, said Marcus, who called it by far the largest contract the business has had in terms of volume. Marcus started the business in 1985.

Our scope of work was specifically to furnish and install the steel-insulated building along with some miscellaneous steel on the roof for heating and cooling, he said.

Traditionally, Marcus Building Systems has done various types of projects, largely commercial, industrial and agricultural in nature. Locally, some examples of the business work has included the Heritage Bank site on Tres Pinos Road, the agricultural barn for San Benito High School and the Enza Zaden building on Lucy Brown Road, which was LEED-certified for its environmentally friendly features. The business also occasionally does custom residential homes.

A Memphis contractor is planning a new office building park in the city, according to a news report.

Memphis-based construction contractor Dan Walker Associates Inc. plans to develop up to 240,000 square feet in seven buildings on nearly eight acres at 3923 Forest Hill Irene Road, according to the report in the Memphis Business Journal.

Dan Walker Associates will start work on its own 10,500-square-foot, $1.2 million headquarters within two months, according to the report. The company will relocate to the building in early spring from its current location at 5350 Poplar Ave.

Dan Walker Associates bought the property, which is between Winchester Road and Tennessee 385, from Clark Metcalf for $350,000 and had it rezoned to commercial.

The Dan Walker Associates office complex would be the first new speculative office space in Memphis since Highwoods Properties opened the doors of the Triad Centre III building in East Memphis four years ago.

MILWAUKEE (WITI) Its a huge, $450 million construction project set for downtown Milwaukee, and on Tuesday, August 26th, ground was broken for the new Northwestern Mutual office tower.

Northwestern Mutual Chairman and CEO John Schlifske and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett were joined by Milwaukee residents, community-based organizations, business leaders, public officials, and others to celebrate the official start to the construction project.

The $450 million, 32-story, 1.1 million square foot high-rise office tower and public space will be completed in 2017.

The office tower will preserve 1,100 downtown jobs, while adding 1,900 new ones.

Later Tuesday evening, a job fair is planned where folks can learn about opportunities that are available during the towers construction.

Building this office tower will require many skilled construction workers over the next five years.Under a deal to receive city financing, Northwestern Mutual committed to having Milwaukee residents work 40 percent of the project hours. The trades training organization WRTP/BIG STEP, under a contract with the city, is finding and preparing workers for those jobs.

The job fair is planned from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the COA Youth & Family Center on W. Burleigh.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett on Tuesday morning took part in the Milwaukee Builds graduation program. 45 individuals have graduated from the program and are ready to enter the construction workforce.Some of the dozens of people graduating have earned certifications that make them eligible for jobs at the Northwestern Mutual construction site.

Ground is broken! Construction of Northwestern Mutual office tower to preserve & create jobs

GROTON -- With the logjam of local permitting and approval reviews finally removed, the long anticipated construction of the Groton Electric Light Department's new office/garage complex began earlier this summer.

By all the evidence, it has proceeded quickly toward conclusion early in the new year.

"I'm very happy with the progress being made on the complex," said GELD manager Kevin Kelly of the building rising off Station Avenue. "It's moving along very nicely."

With ground broken in June, the land was quickly cleared by employees of Methuen-based New England Builders and Contractors and a concrete pad poured. Within days, it seemed, a wooden frame rose over the pad and soon after that, the metal skeleton of the garage portion followed.

Currently, the office portion is enclosed and efforts proceeding apace so that electricians, plumbers and drywallers can work indoors as temperatures fall and the season grows late.

In fact, construction has proceeded so fast over the past several weeks that the project seemed to be glitch-free.

"There have been no problems so far in the construction phase," confirmed Kelly. "No major surprises."

Kelly added that the project presented no unusual challenges for builders and as a result, he expects the new building to be ready for a ribbon-cutting ceremony by spring.

At just over $4 million, the project turned out to be slightly more expensive than planners intended.

"It's more than we wanted to spend but it was the best we could do after all of the delays and challenges in getting the project off the ground," said Kelly.
